I don’t really want a Maul that looks exactly like Ray Park, I’m fine with the “idealized” version. The full version with the speeder was an instant preorder.

Why is it that Hot Toys gets a pass on that? If this was any other company, everyone would be putting them in the dirt for not matching Ray Park’s likeness. Ray Park IS Darth Maul. This isn’t the Clone Wars whatever Maul. :cuckoo:

I disagree. The sideshow one isn’t all that Ray Park-y but it’s still a great sculpt

In that comparison b&w pic the 2 Ray Park photos didn’t even look exactly alike, so I’m fine with the HT likeness. There’s almost zero chance we’ll get another Maul anytime within the next few years. HT has done a few redo’s, but someone like Maul will not warrant it. If Bespin Luke is still waiting on a redo after years and years Maul will be waiting quite a while if he ever gets a re-release.

Then it’s not TPM Maul. Just a general Maul figure.

Yeah, I don’t disagree with you. I’m just happy that it doesn’t look *exactly* like Ray Park, there’s a reason he wears masks and makeup in his movies. He’s the perfect Snake Eyes! [emoji1591]

Maul is the third most popular villain. I wouldn’t underestimate the ability for Hot Toys to milk the fan base. I could easily see them trying to pass off a two-pack with early Prequel Sidious, because I’m struggling to think of anything a deluxe could possibly have, besides that walking hologram projection device.

Oh no I get that. I don’t want it to look like Ray Park, just like Ray Park as Darth Maul. I don’t want a figure of Ray Park. :lol

That goes for any of these characters.

Not aimed at anyone: But I love how we pick at little things like a nose plug on Vader, the height of R2's dome, Hank Solo, Luke Cruise..but idealized Maul is ok as long as he's not screaming? lol

Well the face paint blocks a lot of Parks likeness. It doesn’t nechave to be the spitting image of him as long as his basic features aren’t too off and the face tattoos are right.

I always thought Medicom had the best Maul likeness but what do I know?

Even the main sculpt is off. They’ve got work to do and enough time in which to do it.

This isn’t supposed to be Battlefront 2 Maul. And actually, that Maul is inaccurate in more ways than one. If you exclude his ****** voice acting, he has very little resemblance to Park and also—and this is the one I find odd—his horn placement at the back of his dome is incorrect. He’s also missing a horn.

Here here!!! The main reason I didn’t pull the trigger!!

Still, its worth getting imo. Looks a lot better in hand then photos, I was pleasantly surprised. The eyes are eh, decent, but the closed eye sculpt is spectacular. In the right light the figure is the closest I've seen any Yoda get to the puppet save maybe the new SS legendary scale figure who beats the 1:1.

But yeah.. big big miss not giving the 1:6 pers. It has to had been on the table during concept and I wonder how it came off. Maybe for the v2 in 10 years :lol

I agree. If this was a SSC figure they would be dragged through the dirt.
Right now I feel like I’ll skip this unless they change the sculpt, maybe even both. There are so many figures coming and, though the SSC version is really lacking in accessories, the sculpt is superior and that’s the most important feature for Maul. I really do want an open mouthed Maul, but this just isn’t convincing.

Just realised who the open mouth sculpt reminds me of...

I get that the second headsculpt is... interesting. But I honestly, really think that HT will make an adjustment here. It's been universally panned.

But all that aside - I can't wrap my head around the sudden spike in love for the SS version. Sure, it is probably the best SS release in years, but the quality is still SS. For $40 more you get a full second hesd, PERS, the probe droid, cloak, light up saber, swoosh effects, the wrist control gauntlet, and if you go through the right retailers, the hologram. On top of that, you're just going to have a better experience with the HT version out of the box, the paint alone will be light-years ahead.

Remind me again why you should go for the SS? The likeness that has equal but different imperfections to the HT ones? We're in stupid prices now anyway, so I'm honestly throwing that out of the door given the additional HT content. You want a HT Maul with nothing like the SS? It'd be the same price, which is too much for a barebones figure as we established with the SS version. You can probably sell the cloak alone for that difference if you care that much.

The only instance I would tread lightly would be if you already had a Maul.

I'm so happy that HT rendered the prosthetic aspect of the horns. Star Wars is all about that tangibility and pseudo lo-fi believability. Retaining that aspect instead of using creative liberty makes a better product, I think.
