Re: Hot Toys Darth Vader Sixth Scale Figure

Nice info there, good read.

Jack Bauer, who's as close to being a Vader expert as anyone here, says HT's effort is better than any that have come before in 1/6. So there's that.

That's a comforting notion, so I'm hopeful as well!! Here's hoping it becomes the best offering of vader in any form -(short of the props)- ....to date....

Re: Hot Toys Darth Vader Sixth Scale Figure

Well, thank the gods you were wrong, lerath. Will be many moons until we have to start worrying about PT filth sullying the line.
Indeed.

I just sold my one & only SSC clone figure, & although I did like it, it's well & truly time to make space for the real SW characters. :lol

Re: Hot Toys Darth Vader Sixth Scale Figure

I have to say, from this angle it's hard to be digging on the Ben, but since I don't have him from ss, I would like to get him from ht....

I just hope he looks like Alec Guinness.......

The body on ben must be a mock-up at best. His hands would reach down to his knees..

Re: Hot Toys Darth Vader Sixth Scale Figure

I think its more of a "that's good enough for now" problem with why something is not perfect.
I agree with this. They also have time constraints. They need to have the prototype complete so the factory can produce them and they need to take in to account Chinese New Year, which takes 1 month off every year. With some figures they may have the time to alter before production and with others they may not. Also depends on their release and whether they are timing it with a film release or dvd release.

I don't think a company would purposely not produce the best they can as they are trying to sell as many as they can.

With Han for instance they have 3 original films to work with and different outfits for each of them. If the likeness was perfect with this and everyone bought it I also think they would buy every other version of Han that also had a perfect likeness.

My point is HT aren't going to be making another Han in the iconic outfit anytime soon. Even if they did, there's no guarantee that it will end up with a better likeness.

Re: Hot Toys Darth Vader Sixth Scale Figure

I've done production design, art direction and physical props/effects for independent film.

I can't tell you how many times a producer with a spreadsheet has told me "good enough", "have to think of the big picture" ... "We don't have time" etc.

It's really frustrating but it happens.

As designer in my own field clients' budgetary and time constraints tie my hands on the regular.

It's the reality of creative work meets budget meets schedule.

Passion projects seldom make money.

I do think 1/6 companies can do better, but see my other post (somewhere, maybe R2?) about what the market will bear.

Follow ze money.

GREAT post - thank you. Redoing a sculpt costs money, so if it doesn't come in perfect but there's no incentive to spend money on redoing it if it's something like Star Wars that is going to sell out no matter what.

Re: Hot Toys Darth Vader Sixth Scale Figure

I'll be surprised if we see this BEFORE Christmas day. and if we don't see it on Christmas day, i'm betting we will not see it till mid June.

Re: Hot Toys Darth Vader Sixth Scale Figure

Seriously? You think there's a chance they'd tease it now but put the pre-order up 7 months later? I don't see it.

Re: Hot Toys Darth Vader Sixth Scale Figure

Pretty sure he means the pre-order. Really no way for me to make sense of the post if lerath means we'll have these in-hand by June (*waits for lerath to clarify*). If these go up for pre-order this month, we can pretty much count on in-hand for Q4 2015 (and I would guess late Q4). Pre-order's trickier to gauge but I'm certainly hoping this month or January.

Typical Batman Returns fan:

Oh, the pressure!

Re: Hot Toys Darth Vader Sixth Scale Figure

Not even so much Batman Returns than it is other characters (whether it be Returns Batman or say, Charles Xavier). It's only been 11 days. Compare that to the years it's taken for some of this crap. :lol

Atleast there's a 1/6 Darth Vader and Ben Kenobi for people to kill time with. Other characters/versions don't have that luxury.

Re: Hot Toys Darth Vader Sixth Scale Figure

At least DX15 is getting made (eventually). CW and P are, maybe, 3:1.

Xavier (any), Fassbender (any)? Yeah, right, maybe after Prometheus, Stamp Zod and the Lone Ranger. :lol
