Here is my dilemma, I only want one Vader, the subtle differences aren't big enough for me to want one of each. BUT, I really like the helmet of the ANH version. I don't know how easy a parted out helmet will be, but I am tempted to pick it and hope that it will also work with the future HT ESB/ROTJ Vader when they make it. Then I could have the ESB/ROTJ version with an option to redress him for a ANH-ish look using the ANH helmet and putting the inner robes over the armor to mix it up once in a while. Yea it wouldn't be 100% ANH accurate, but close enough for me.
Don't think we've seen word on whether the Deluxe gloves fit on HT Vader, but maybe you'd be best off picking up the whole HT Vader and selling off everything from the deluxe minus the chest box and gloves (if it turns out they work)--though the light-up saber wouldn't work with the SS gloves.

We saw a couple promo shots where the inner tunic was under the chest armor and it didn't look too bad. Mix that with the fact that the HT body will be better, the height will be better with the figures around him, he has the light-up saber you want, and other improvements that have been mentioned and it really seems like this might check off more boxes.

I'm so looking forward to getting this guy that I'm trying to convince you too. :lol

ANH is definitely in the minority of preferred Vaders. Most like him shiny and polished like ESB/ROTJ. I'm sure the future HT version will not disappoint in that way.

I'm of the few who like the original incarnation; more used and battle-worn.

I'd be willing to bet that this is all about the moment in your life when Star Wars first entered and took over your life. If you are old enough to have sat in the theatre in the summer of 1977 and we old enough for conscious thought, then ANH Vader is likely your man. If you first bum in seat theatre experience was ESB, that's propbably the Vader that hits home in all the right places best. And despite all the yub, yub... If you were 13 or so when that one hit the streets, then spit and gloss Darth is likely to be your pick.

Now, if had the poor foresight to have been born late, having only experienced the OT on tape (or worse, on some sort of filthy "disc"), well, then the world mourns for you. You might still be standing on the planet a few years after the rest of us have given it up as a bad habit, but your life will never be truly full...and who the hell cares which Vader you like.

I have spoken...

Cheers!

PS. ANH Vader to the bleedin' GRAVE!!! That moment in 1977 in which he strides onto Tative is remains etched into my consciousness like it was yesterday! Some of you may have been waiting since 2005 for a new Star Wars movie, my compatriots and I have been waiting since 1983!

Im 33, and as a kid, was never brought to my attention the differences in the movie Vaders. I never put it together even through the numerous of watches. I didn't figure it out until only a few years ago when I watched the whole thing with my wife. I noticed but didn't really have a preference either. Now that I've joined this community, I have learned what it means to love the details. Now that I have been able to formulate my own opinion/bias, I think I prefer ANH for one simple reason, I like the tunic covering the armor. I like a more clothed, sleek look to a more armored look. Think that's why I like the look of Kylo Ren so much.

It is impossible to forget that moment. As well as the choking and toss in the next scene.

Converts are always welcome! You write very succinctly too.

The two moments that have stuck out to me ever since I was 10 have been the moment Luke sees Vader on Cloud City. His silhouette against the orange, his breathing filling the silence. I had a bank that spoke his lines during that scene if you pressed a button.

The second is when he arrives on the Death Star at the beginning of ROTJ, striding out of the shuttle immediately laying down the law. "The Emperor is not as forgiving as I am."

The HT Vader is a beautiful figure, for sure - and appears to replicate what always seemed somehow to be sharper angles on the ANH helmet (at least to me).

Anyway, I'm well on track to reproducing this classic 12" Kenner promo image - substituted with HT figures. :clap

How are people getting the chest armor, life support box, and belt/codpiece so close to each other? I thought that wasn't possible because of the torso. It looks great, how was that accuracy achieved? Just futzing, no mods?

Best to directly email seller you bought it from. In your case, eBay seller Chen Wan Du.

Shot in the dark, but does anyone know what Vader's availability is like in Hong Kong/China, currently? One of my mom's co-workers is over there on a business trip and she thinks she could get him to pick one up.

I wouldn't know for sure but Hot Toys Star Wars stuff doesn't sell as well as some of their other franchises in Hong Kong. If he is in Hong Kong, I would try Secret Base.

Yeah, I know Budget Stark has mentioned that in his videos. I saw a sold out sign in his last video about vader, but I was wondering if it was common in any of the other shops there.

I don't know if her co-worker is still in Hong Kong and if not, there probably aren't many other places in China to buy figures. I just thought a member who lived over there or was in the know might be able to help. Hence, why I said "shot in the dark" haha

got the first part....having a hard time figuring out what you mean here tho.

Pull it through the hole you've pierced in the bottom (will disappear once out) until you feel it get to the end of the wire. It will then snag as the end of the wire has been folded back on itself to help it not come out. So then turn the wire round and pull it UP but still out of the tunic.

DiFabs; basically you have to undress him and undo all the straps, rejig and tighten them. Very simple to achieve.

I don't know if the SS gloves can be modded to fit the HT figure or not, but you're right I wouldn't be able to use them with the light-up saber. If they could be modded I might use them for the times when I am not using the saber. I could also keep the SS chest box and maybe even the chest armor - it has a hook for the chain, to use for when I want to convert it to more of ESB look. I'm not sure if I keep these accessories how much the figure would sell without them. It might be better to keep everything for a year or so (or however long it takes) for HT to make a ESB/ROTJ version. Then I could get that one too and out of the two HT versions take the best base figure with the body suit I like best and then keep both helmets and selection of other components to be able to redress the figure either more ANH style or ESB style all with Hot Toys (and hopefully more compatible) parts. At that point I could sell my SS one and whatever HT parts I would have left over.

lol- I don't know what I will decide - but I don't mind your excitement or the excitement of others for this figure in the least.
