i got my Vader today , and since havng owned the SSC Deluxe one i can sure say that this one looks better in some areas. But when it comes to Value, accessories, price and overall package, the SSC Deluxe is better value for money and i think the belts and straps are strong on the sideshow deluxe.

The Hot Toys nailed the sculpt and body suit , but failed on the shins which are meant to be semi gloss to full gloss , the belt is missing weathering and for some reason my voice stuff worked once now it doesnt work at all ( am i missing something ? ) . overall, besides the nice tailored cape ( best hot toys ever done ) , the nice helmet , the nice suit it is a slightly better figure but not a more fun figure compared to the sideshow. Would have been nice for some different hands, because it is his hands that show his emotions as the mask is static . Thats where sideshow also wins. The complex lighting and leds are a problem for this Hot Toys but mainly because the belts and straps are so fragile . ( My belt is starting to tear behind the buckle. )

Have you taken the belt off at all? I could be wrong, but even though the belt is indeed fragile, it doesn't strike me as being taut enough to where it would tear on its own without having really futzed with it at all. Many people's belts have torn behind the buckle when attempting to unclasp it because the buckle gets stuck a bit.

taken the belt off half a dozen times and yeah starting to tear behind the buckle and it is tight. I glued mine so hopefully it shouldnt tear but long term i cant see it holding out

That figure has one really big problem: the suit is AWFUL.....

Moving the belt boxes closer to the buckle really messes up the belt but it looks a lot better.

So, I decided to do a total redo on the armor. In the end, I like the contrast with gunmetal to the shiny black. In person, it looks 'right' Flat black with gun metal was too similar in the end for my eyes....will post pics when all done

My Vader is finally on the way, should be here on monday! :rock

congrats; its the most fun I've had with a figure in a long, long time!

Did you bend the clips a la Wor-Gar?

No I just folded the belt under the clips but the belt is so week it has small tears but I bought an extra belt specifically to do it and you can't see the damage. I also bought an extra codpiece so I can rip off the band that goes in between the legs so I can move it up.

Buying extra parts to compensate for what comes out of the box is pretty s**tty for a $300 figure. I haven't even got mine and I kinda hate it already.

I was going to sell my SS ANH Vader and recoup some of the expense on this one, but I'm wondering if I shouldn't just keep it and mod it, or just for parts. Not sure how compatible things like the belt and codpiece are across the two.

Buying the extra parts is just my OCD, the codpiece strap can be folded up and the boxes can be moved carefully without damage but I just wanted to hamfist the pieces and not worry about potential damage.

That's reassuring :lol

I'll go back to being bent over the silly hands and voice function.

I don't have any of the Sideshow Vaders but from the comparison photos I've seen this looks much better. I agree that the belt shouldn't tear and the electronics should work and maybe SSC's Vaders are sturdier (?) but for all its drawbacks this figure has a massively imposing presence on a shelf, mainly down to the helmet. It hold your gaze more then most figures.

It took me 2 minutes to move the belt boxes, it was really easy to do, just wiggle the velcro part in slowly.
Looks good, but don't you dare fold his cape like Batman.
I'm used to Batman, it must been a muscle memory to fold the cape 😆

Tomday, this is clearly much better figure than SS offerings. My SS deluxe will be gone.

The stock SS ANH is clunky, but cast your eyes over what King Darkness got out of it with a KP-02 body swap and lowered dome:

What tool is best to "sand" or sculpt off some of the torso plastic?

While the shiny black may not be accurate, it looks good in the house and out of the sun....I dig the contrast more.
