Makes me think of Chasing Amy where the black militant comic writer is talking about Vader being the blackest guy in the galaxy.
Would be hilarious to watch the entire movie with the muffled original Prowse audio. The JEJ voice is obviously phenomenal and I would guess most wouldn't even necessarily think it's a black voice. I never did, but I was a stupid kid. Curious to know who else Lucas considered.

That's Prowse conjecturing that George wanted a "negro" voice. I don't think JEJ has ever been perceived that way. I think if Orson Welles had been available George would have gone that way. He just wanted someone sonorous and distinctive.

Only big black actors according to Prowse.:slap:lol

But yeah - I thought of Chasing Amy too (though I do try to avoid thinking of that movie because parts of it creep me out.)

That comment was bizarre to say the least. JEJ was born in Mississippi and raised in Michigan, a stutterer who became a mute who found his way to the theater stage. If anything, he has one of the most unique voices in the history of pop culture.

I agree with this. Dave did a great job but he was always angry that his voice had been replaced.

Yeah, I don't think that's what George was thinking at all. It is interesting though - I recently watched an interview with JEJ and he actually said something like "Lucas wanted a darker voice..." (in choosing him) then clarified himself saying he didn't mean in an ethnic sense.

I think Prowse's words are just Prowse's words. Black suit doesn't equal black person.:lol

This thing reminds me of the interview (from 1980) where Billy Dee is asked what he thinks of being the "token black character" (and the woman is trying to be socially relevant, not racist) - he handles it with BDW grace Really hope BD is in TFA - it seems not, but anything is possible I guess.

Me too. Really hoping he's a surprise cast member. I know they didn't get wedge which is also a shame but that actor seems to be "above" Star Wars. BDW even in a tiny role/cameo would be awesome. After all, he blew up the death star in the preceding movie.

:goodpost:

Maybe if he gets a cameo we might get some more OT Lando figs.

Lando in Skiff outfit is a bizarre omission from Sideshow's Star Wars line too. It's an awesome outfit and the SSC Bespin Lando (despite the standard oversize SSC head issue) is one of my faves and has a perfect likeness. If HT is sticking with main characters in their iconic oufits (with headsculpts that effusively hint at the character so you can contextually guess who it is) then Lando Skiff is the type of fig SSC should be doing.

Yeah, I hope SS keeps putting out those. We still have to finish off the ESB bounty hunters.

They should have had a word with Ewan Mcgregor.

Wedge is Ewans uncle.

Finally realized what Hot Toys used for reference for their Vader...
