Hot Toys Obi-Wan Kenobi Sixth Scale Figure

Good video. Stormtroopers look awesome. Vader looks good straight on. Han Hoth looks pretty good (though the hood looks a little rough). Scout trooper looks a little uncomfortable on the bike.

Re: Hot Toys Obi-Wan Kenobi Sixth Scale Figure

It's a really good Bernard Hill from Lord of the Rings.

I said that earlier too about that first Ben & Vader 'face off' pic. :lol

The video that budget Stark posted really helps put things into perspective more. All the babble about the Ben & Vader likenesses is only partly warranted, they still look outstanding.

Re: Hot Toys Obi-Wan Kenobi Sixth Scale Figure

Yeah, a few good critique posts, but alot of it is goofy as **** "one ups" to get a better laugh than the last poster.

Which is pretty much why I don't frequent these forums much anymore, all bs.lol

Well, you should, it would be nice to get more objective opinions. I actually don't mind the jokes and comparisons, but the fact that people don't feel comfortable to post sucks. :(

Re: Hot Toys Obi-Wan Kenobi Sixth Scale Figure

No good posting an opinion. It'll just get ripped apart by someone. Oh what the heck.

I love my SS Ben. It looks great. A little soft in details and smoothed out features but a really good representation of the character capturing his essence. I've always thought SSC head-sculpts were just a bit too oversized and this one is no exception. I may regret selling this one after the HT Ben is in hand but I've always wanted them to tackle all Star Wars characters. So bring on the Kool-Aid.

On the other hand I look at the new version and really wonder if it's worth the "upgrade". Upgrade in price as well as supposed detail but I think HT missed the mark. It's a great sculpt and I'm excited to see them tackle face characters but I think I'm seeing more of my ideal than what's actually there.

Kool-Aid wearing off?

It's a great sculpt and I'm sure it will be tweaked and painted with a bit more detail before its shipped but at this point it still has me questioning myself, "Do I need it?"

This just seems like an OBVIOUS rework job for HT. I don't think there is anyone here who sees this sculpt as a home run, so I'd be really, really surprised if this isn't redone/tweaked. Even Budget Stark - videoing right there at the show - mentions the sculpt issues on his voice over. I'm not aware of any SSC figs that have been resculpted/tweaked, but HT is known for doing it - and listening to feedback.

And it doesn't need massive work - the eyes look Asian and the overall face needs more age, but you can definitely see Guiness hiding in there. The one thing Ben needs to look is old, and I don't mean mid-late 40's old.:lol

I will say this - the finish/paint is SPECTACULAR. If they can reboot this sculpt, even if it's only 90% Alec Guiness, this will be incredible.

This is exactly my thoughts and situation.

Re: Hot Toys Obi-Wan Kenobi Sixth Scale Figure

Hey, Richard Chamberlain, at least, is not any random human! :lecture:wink1:

This is the pure truth - from a certain point of view of course (mine): :lol

While I don't see Richie C. at all, this is still a great little side by side shot for comparison. Overall I like the HT Ben but the minor misses I see are:

1. Looks a little too young but may be the lighting.
2. Mouth slightly too wide.
3. Eyes ever so slightly too closed.
4. Beard/jaw line too square.

Re: Hot Toys Obi-Wan Kenobi Sixth Scale Figure

Its really weird that IT hasn't knock one of these sculpts out the park yet. I hope this goes through some revisions. Old Ben is in my top three favorite characters from SW and I was really looking forward to what they would come up with. I had in in my head what an HT Old Ben sculpt would look like with a slam dunk likeness and killer detail and paint......and this ain't it. :lol Come Hot Toys, you can do better.

Re: Hot Toys Obi-Wan Kenobi Sixth Scale Figure

This looks like the 70s comic book version of Ben. I really wanted this figure, but since there is little to no actual resemblance to Sir Alec, I'm going to pass. Thanks HT for helping me save money.

Re: Hot Toys Obi-Wan Kenobi Sixth Scale Figure

While I hope the sculpt goes thru some revisions, I am in the minority saying it'd be a purchase as is. The only issue I have from the pics shown is the face doesn't look "worn" enough but I see Alec in the sculpt. :dunno

Re: Hot Toys Obi-Wan Kenobi Sixth Scale Figure

If given the choice right now would people rather purchase the sideshow version for $60.00 or the hot toys version for $260.00.

Obviously the HT version, that's a stupid question.:lol
