Re: Hot Toys Obi-Wan Kenobi Sixth Scale Figure

Interestingly, this appears to be the ref picture that they used for some of the facial detailing (sorry the attached pic doesn't appear any larger - the site has displayed it at 1/3 the size I uploaded it at.) Very clearly not enough white in the HT hair paint-up though.

Yeah that definitely appears to be the main reference pic they used. But even with more white in the hair, I just don't think the sculpt does enough to capture Alec Guinness. The face isn't quite narrow or sunken in enough, the wrinkles not prominent enough, and the eyes are just completely wrong.

It almost looks to me like it's his more handsome younger brother instead. Or a McGregor/Guinness hybrid.

Yeah I see the McGregor too. It reminds me of the mythos statue in a way. I like it but there's defiantly some room for improvement. It's great HT is finally getting there SW line going, I just hope they can step it up a little with there human sculpts.

Re: Hot Toys Obi-Wan Kenobi Sixth Scale Figure

I did a 5 minute manip with an airbrush tool to try to fix what I think throws it off the most.
-The brow is too furrowed
-His mustache is too neat. I think it needs to come over his lip just a bit.
-Needs a bit more white to his facial hair.
-bags under his eyes are not prominent enough but that could be lighting.
-I think his upper eyelids are fine but his lower lids need to curve down just a bit more. (The photo was a bit too low res for me to do mush with that.)
I did this on my phone, but maybe it looks a LITTLE better? lol. :monkey3

Looks great. Eyes need to be slightly more open, and the face is a bit too wide...needs squishing.

Re: Hot Toys Obi-Wan Kenobi Sixth Scale Figure

HT over SS stock any day IMO. SS Ben only pops after it's had a repaint. Also looking at the video a member made of HT's Ben, he looks a lot better on video then pictures...

Yeah, SS Ben with a repaint is going to be a $250-300 figure for someone buying in now (depending on which painter you go with, and whether you get new hands and body also.)

And I agree about the video - I'm not much of a fan of the sculpt, but it does look noticeably better "in the round" in Budget Stark's video.

Tinypic is working again, so I can upload this at a bigger size to see better. This seems to be the pic they primarily used for reference, judging by hair and skin-line match-ups:

Dang, I don't get how anyone sees Alec in that. Hope they tweak the heck out of it or start from scratch. From a distance, I doubt I'll care but up close I may rue (once in a while) that they didn't try a bit harder.

Yeah those changes DO make a huge difference, although I agree with Newmennium that the face is still not as narrow as it should be.

And wow, you did all that on your phone? I have a hard enough time just typing out a complete sentence on mine. Lol

Well done - that's great.

It looks a lot better It's to bad Hot toys doesn't see this but I'm sure they think they don't need to make any changes because Hot toys is infallible like most companies that believe there own hype. So expect to do these mods yourself.

Re: Hot Toys Obi-Wan Kenobi Sixth Scale Figure

Thanks guys! I really appreciate the feedback. I used an app called ArtStudio that's like a simplified mobile photoshop. I redid the manip using the larger photo TaliBane posted. I don't know if it works as well but the idea is there. I tried to tweak his mouth as well considering Alec Guinness's mouth seems to naturally curve upward, almost like a half smile. Also, added a light reflection in his eyes for kicks.

Re: Hot Toys Obi-Wan Kenobi Sixth Scale Figure

Those eyes need visible top eyelids and bottom lids that are more semi-circular :)

Re: Hot Toys Obi-Wan Kenobi Sixth Scale Figure

i expect more from Hot Toys... i want to see the "definitive" version of any character they choose to redo. i want to feel like i can't live without it...

Other than the grey hair he looks too young, amongst other things.

Re: Hot Toys Obi-Wan Kenobi Sixth Scale Figure

So long as screen accuracy isn't what you're looking for, there are all kinds of reasons to love this figure.
You know what I'm looking for?

Official spec photos. :lol

Even then it'll be another 6 months of "..gee, that looks JUST like Ernest Borgnine's younger third cousin.." - OR - "..wow, my *** crack has more accuracy than this!!"

Far be it form me to ruin folks' beer goggle wonderland.
