Re: Hot Toys Obi-Wan Kenobi Sixth Scale Figure

Obviously the Sideshow version with a repaint, thats a stupid question. :lol

Not sure if it is. I see tons of posts with recent SS figures where many are saying "I'll wait for the hot toys version." So if they aren't happy with the scout trooper now at $190 and want to wait for a HT version 6 years from now that might cost $350 or more...

I think it's a legitimate question. Not sure if I explained it perfectly.

Now this is the first pic that has me saying - THAT'S Alec Guiness! If the beard were a bit more pointy...

No good posting an opinion. It'll just get ripped apart by someone. Oh what the heck.

Now, that's not true. You'll only get ripped apart if your opinion is wrong.

Re: Hot Toys Obi-Wan Kenobi Sixth Scale Figure

I think he looks a little more Guinnessy in this one:

The one Dave quoted and this one Kuat posted look like Guiness for sure. The more I look at actual photos of Alec the better HT's sculpt looks.

SS's Obi is my favorite human sculpt from them but it's a bit too haggard. HT's is a great sculpt but it needs a bit more detail. Something in between the two would be perfect for me.

Yes I agree Darklord Dave, I think the lighting is washing out all the potential detail. Hopefully a little more work is done , is so dang close !!

Re: Hot Toys Obi-Wan Kenobi Sixth Scale Figure

I'd love to see them paint the beard correctly too. Galactiboy did a bang-up repaint on his SS Obi. I'd like to see those same colors on HT's.

I should've mentioned this before, but this is actually a poor comparison of Guiness & the figure (& ignoring that useless reference to RC.. :slap)

^ That ^ photo of Guiness is from ROTJ - he was six years older there. He was already in his early 60s when they filmed STAR WARS, so by 1983 he looked noticebly older - bearing in mind that he would've had make up on, on set. The head sculpt needs more ageing - sure, but the likeness is there. It absolutely is, & that larger black & white pic shows that.

If you're gonna do a comp - use a 1977 photo.

I'm completely down with this figure so far - love it. I'm starting to see some subtle fence sitting creeping in now too with some of the nay sayers, which is funny.

I thought maybe I was being too forgiving when I first viewed this and posted about it, but days later I feel the same...I like it. A little idealized and extra badass but for the moment I think it's a good figure.

Re: Hot Toys Obi-Wan Kenobi Sixth Scale Figure

So is the "eyes closed" portrait the two-pack exclusive?

Re: Hot Toys Obi-Wan Kenobi Sixth Scale Figure

King Theoden is the best example I've seen in here.

Ben Kenobi is to Theoden as Han Solo is to Jim Morrison (or John Stamos, or Chevy Chase).

Re: Hot Toys Obi-Wan Kenobi Sixth Scale Figure

Trying to figure out what this fig would look like with hood up (yep - pretty damn rough photoshop :lol) so I PS'ed the HT head into a movie still.

This one reminds me of the HT Indy - the likeness is definitely there in places, but in others - gone. Whitening the hair in places does seem to help a bit.

Interestingly, this appears to be the ref picture that they used for some of the facial detailing (sorry the attached pic doesn't appear any larger - the site has displayed it at 1/3 the size I uploaded it at.) Very clearly not enough white in the HT hair paint-up though.

The primary problem with the sculpt (to me) apart from the lack of age is the eyes. These eyes do seem too Asian:

Re: Hot Toys Obi-Wan Kenobi Sixth Scale Figure

It's not just the eyes, the brows don't arc correctly either.

Again though, if you lit that head sculpt like that Guiness stock photo, I bet we'd all be a little surprised at what nuances start to show up.

Re: Hot Toys Obi-Wan Kenobi Sixth Scale Figure

I agree, the eyes and orbits are just not correct for his age. Even at sixty. Looks like he got botox.

Re: Hot Toys Obi-Wan Kenobi Sixth Scale Figure

If given the choice right now would people rather purchase the sideshow version for $60.00 or the hot toys version for $260.00.

If you can find a SS Ben for $60.00 steal it! That's a Bargain. They are going for $150.00 to $300.00 right now. The question is if given the choice right now would people rather purchase the HT for $260.00 or a stock SS without a RePaint for $260.00?

HT over SS stock any day IMO. SS Ben only pops after it's had a repaint. Also looking at the video a member made of HT's Ben, he looks a lot better on video then pictures...
