Re: Hot Toys Obi-Wan Kenobi Sixth Scale Figure

There have been plenty of great sculpts churned out by HT and they get due cred. Nobody is complaining about SS x-wing Luke, or even Hoth Luke and Han especially, save the hope that the production piece matches the proto. Just about every sculpt in my collection has a better sculpt than this. Hyperbole runs in two directions.

Agreed. There have been plenty of human likenesses from HT that people have sung the praises of over the years-- which is precisely how HT got to be so revered and so popular in the first place. And even when they don't absolutely nail the likeness, they still usually get it close enough to make the figure worth buying anyway (or at least make you seriously consider it).

But this Kenobi doesn't even reach that lower bar, I don't think. There's a vague resemblance to a Kenobi-style character, but it's not nearly as strong a likeness as we normally expect from HT.

I love the head..PT or OT, Kenobi is one of the best characters, cannot wait to have this.

Re: Hot Toys Obi-Wan Kenobi Sixth Scale Figure

The sculpt initially reminded me of an aging TV director you'd see hanging out at Whole Foods, but doing the "out of context" image test, it does look like Alec Guiness at Whole Foods, albeit a vegan Alec with some subtle/tasteful face work.

I dunno. I actually see more of this this guy than Guinness:

It's a shame really, because what got me exited about the whole "HT finally doing SW" was the prospect of seeing top notch, definitive versions of these classic characters. I was looking forward to collecting the whole line. But it seems we are getting just good/acceptable figures and if they don't improve until release, I will surely stay out.

Re: Hot Toys Obi-Wan Kenobi Sixth Scale Figure

Sculpt could be better. His 'tache needs to be a bit fuller and go over his top lip more. He also looks too young and lacking in vitamin D.

Re: Hot Toys Obi-Wan Kenobi Sixth Scale Figure

I'm not one to ever pick apart sculpts. But I agree the eyes are killing it for me. They are too narrow. A little more roundness and saggyness at the bottom would fix it. I guess I am really noticing and pointing out because this is my most wanted and I want it to be as good as possible.

Re: Hot Toys Obi-Wan Kenobi Sixth Scale Figure

I think a lot of folks are agreeing about the eyes, it's just the 'looks like (random human)' comments that are dumb. :lol

The posts complaining about the complaints are more annoying to me. God forbid you have some criticisms on a $250+ doll. Plus, I haven't seen anything going overboard yet. Its when the complaining turns into trolling is when it becomes a problem. Besides, if there weren't any criticisms or engaged discussion this place would be boring as hell. Ive been to other boards where all you see is " Looks great!!" , "I love, me want.", "Best figure on earth!" and they suck. :lol And seriously, over all, I dont think its that bad here. I heard this place called "The Home of the Whiny *******" but I really dont think some people know the difference between a critique and "bitching". And mostly I think its the people that seem to like EVERYTHING that say that sort of stuff. If it was up to them the forum wouldn't go past ****** camera phone pictures and 8,000 posts of " OMG, love dis figgguurre. I jus ****zzzed ma pants. "

Hey, Richard Chamberlain, at least, is not any random human! :lecture:wink1:

This is the pure truth - from a certain point of view of course (mine): :lol

Yeah, you know what I mean.

Anyway, Chamberlain looks like Lee Van Cleef without his frigging hat there. :lol

Re: Hot Toys Obi-Wan Kenobi Sixth Scale Figure

I like it enough to purchase as is. It is a WiP so should sculpt change for the better great. For my taste the paint, tailoring, body will beat any prior released version even if the sculpt is suspect. Again for my taste, sculpt needs tweaked not a massive overhaul so I can live with it either way

:exactly::goodpost:

I said John Blackthorne (Chamberlain's character in Shogun) in an earlier post, but a more contemporary Richard Chamberlain is even better.
