Re: Hot Toys - MMS185 - The Avengers: Iron Man MK VII

The price is high, but from the pattern of price increases from Hot Toys I predicted this would be $250. For once I am not happy that I was right. At some point I would think the market will not be able to bear these increases and Hot Toys would be smart to adjust accordingly. Or else Hot Toys will be in trouble.

:exactly:

This post should be framed. :)

I'm not happy about the $250 price tag. If you told me a year or two ago I'd be paying $150.... let along $250-$400-some dollars (for figures like the Iron Monger) I'd say you're nuts. But I am now.

I don't think anyone likes the price increases, but anyone who thought Captain America was $200 and Iron Man would be anything less than this were just kidding themselves. I think most of us not crapping ourselves were just paying attention and being realistic. Doesn't mean we like it. :)

But, the reality is that at some point these price increases are going to start pricing more and more people out of getting these. I actually cancelled all my Avengers pre-orders except Loki because I just realized there was no way I could keep up. I'd love to have them all but I just can't do it financially. I will still get the Iron Man releases, but the rest... I just have to let go.

I tend to think more and more people will start to do that as costs (and final prices) go up. I tend to think we're at the height of releases for 1/6 figures. I really don't think this pace and this range of characters can be kept up in the long term.

Re: Hot Toys - MMS185 - The Avengers: Iron Man MK VII

^^^ Amen brother. HT just released an MMS figure at DX-tier pricing.

Yes we get it , some of you will pay whatever HT charges. Some of us are looking at the bigger picture of how long HT can keep raising the price. Last time I checked you need a constant flow of customers buying your product to stay in business. If the prices keep going up, people will start to buy less, or quit altogether. That is just an economic fact.
We don't all have the same income level and priorities. This isn't fuel or food we're talking about. Clearly some people seem to put this hobby on the same level as necessities.

Re: Hot Toys - MMS185 - The Avengers: Iron Man MK VII

If you don't have the income to afford a $25 -50 increase on a high end collectible, what are you doing in this hobby? Seriously, not to be mean, but really. Either you can afford it or you can't. A gradual price increase over time that has resulted in a minor price increase shouldn't be a big deal. I think a lot of people need to readdress their collecting or get out.

Re: Hot Toys - MMS185 - The Avengers: Iron Man MK VII

All these price increases mean is that I'll be going elsewhere for my figures. Considering I'm in CA I'm not just saving the $20 from the AD pricing but also the $15 shipping (average) and about $20 in tax. The higher the cost, the easier it'll be to go elsewhere and I can do without the gummy MK VII

Re: Hot Toys - MMS185 - The Avengers: Iron Man MK VII

Also, it sounds like A LOT of people don't even like (or aren't very happy with) Hot Toys figures.. so why do you buy them? No artist representation is going to be perfect, this is art not science. You like it or you don't, and if you don't like it, why talk about it and buy it?

Re: Hot Toys - MMS185 - The Avengers: Iron Man MK VII

Remember when SSC 1/6 figures were $49.99? Those were the days...

Shhhhh you'll be accused of moaning

They like the figures, but not the price.

Except when it comes to Nolan Batman, they actually don't like the figures :lol

In the spirit of the Olympics you sir are the gold medalist for moaning. If its not one of your precious liscenses you rag on it. I'm sure your x-men thread is jumping and I hears its missing you. :lol

And the others saying the price is too high? Are they the same :nana:

I recall people trolling the Spidey thread saying $205 was ridiculously high pricing, now this is $45 more and somehow it's not too high :slap

I was planning on selling my MKVI to get this, not so much anymore.

You're looking at the increase one figure at a time. Sure it's a few bucks more than the last, but as I mentioned before I'm looking at the bigger picture here and where this market is going. Looking at the trend, so to speak. It's not about who can afford it, it's what people are willing to pay.

Re: Hot Toys - MMS185 - The Avengers: Iron Man MK VII

Everything is going up, everything. People are entitled their opinions, I won't begrudge anyone that, or be rude about it. I just find it funny that people seem to think this is some premeditated case of corporate greed when it's very doubtful. Companies want to make money, not price their market out.

I think you missed what they were saying...at one point, they could afford it, but in a rapid period of time they are being priced out.

People ARE readdressing their collecting and they ARE saying they will end up moving elsewhere.

I can't imagine that is good for HT bottom line in the long run...

Re: Hot Toys - MMS185 - The Avengers: Iron Man MK VII

Wow, buying this figure in Canada (anywhere from anyone) will mean this will cost nearly $300 dollars. That's so much money dudes, I honestly don't think I can justify this anymore. I wasn't ready to quit just yet but these recent changes are really rubbing me off the wrong way (ridiculous price increases, quality control issues, NRDs, open ES, high edition sizes). Like, what the f___ is going on? $300 bucks for this? I rather take cruise somewhere for 4 days for the same price (cheaper, actually).

No, I get what they are saying. What I read is "Hot Toys are greedy, this isn't worth this, I'm not buying it". Not "I really wish I could buy this, but I can't, the economy has priced me out". I just think if you can afford a $200 figure you can afford a $250 figure. If $50 is that big of a financial burden then why are you buying $200 figures to begin with?

Re: Hot Toys - MMS185 - The Avengers: Iron Man MK VII

This figure won't have any trouble selling as it's a character with a dedicated fanbase who'll pay almost anything.

The trouble will come when they price less popular characters at this range. That's when people will skip because of pricing and it'll stick, which will spell bad news for whichever line that's from as hot toys may conclude it didn't sell because of lack of interest, instead of the actual lousy overpricing that drove potential customers away.
