........Jesus Christ, I came back to this thread after several weeks to report I preordered the figure and the same cast of clown are STILL in here hijacking the thread to prequel bash. Is this thread like some kind of group help session for ******** fanboys who claim George Lucas ***** their childhoods? I mean seriously, so much life energy being wasted here.
:lol

I am probably the biggest prequel defender out there, but it's still fun to make fun of them:lol

I don't know why there is so much controversy and hatred amongst the Star Wars Trilogies.:slap Can't we all just agree that we love Star Wars regardless of OT, PT etc.:wave

Like I always say, the ones who hate SW the most are the most diehard fans of it. :lol

Raise your hand if you spent $800 framing an art print with prequel characters on it this year. No one? That's what I thought. I can bash the PT all I want, lol.

I wouldn't have as much of a problem with the Prequel Trilogy if it wasn't for the fact that George Lucas in turn made changes to the Original Trilogy that I dislike in order to make certain aspects fit the prequels better. Especially the fact that the theatrical releases of the Original Trilogy have been held back since the mid nineties and aren't available in decent format officially.

I believe good sales result of Anakin clearly offend certain group of people here. As in their mind " PT were trash, and everything related to PT should suffer terrible fate, including this firgue". I watched PT first when was still a kid...similar to "grew up old guys" here who spent their childhood with OT. But unlike them, I love everything about SW(OT-PT, clone wars animated series, Rouge One).

Like it or not, there will highly a chance Hot Toys will release characters from PT in the future...and there still the community out there who loves and appreciates Mr. Lucas's creation. SW universe not just running around the OT...nuff said.

I'm not one to go out of my way to defend the PT, but they get a bad wrap. I realize it's absolute sacrilege to say so, but I like ROTS better than ROTJ. It's just such a dark film and there's plenty of emotional moments. Plus, you get to see a lot of the cool, lesser recognized Jedi in action, like Ki-Adi Mundi and Plo Koon. The lightsaber fights are among the best in the entire franchise, Hayden's acting is much better, and imagine how much better the movie would have been if they went with Padme's original ending instead of what we got.

Whereas I think ROTS is a great SW movie, everything, EVERYTHING about AOTC is miserable. EVERYTHING. Obi-Wan vs. Jango was like the only good part until the Battle of Geonosis. Movie is absolute trash and Hayden and Natalie alike are terrible.

I've always felt TPM would actually be a pretty worthwhile movie if not for too much Jar Jar and if the podrace was exponentially shorter, or just entirely removed. Jar Jar is at his most annoying on Tatooine, if they just kept him on the ship with Obi-Wan during that whole sequence, he would have been a much more tolerable character, as his character actually does have a big storyline moment when he unites the Gungans and Naboo.

The podrace though. I literally can't watch it. I change the channel or skip the scenes on the DVD, every single time. I don't think I've watched the podrace in ten years.

One of the cool parts about the PT, like it or not, was seeing more of the Star Wars universe. In ANH, all you get is Tatooine and the Death Star, and a few minutes of Yavin IV. In ESB, you just get Hoth, Dagobah and Bespin. ROTJ, Tatooine again, Dagobah again, the Death Star again, and Endor. The PTs open up so much more imagination with worlds, like Kashyyyk, Coruscant, Naboo, Kamino, Mustafar, etc. It's great seeing so many different environments in my opinion.

Again, there's good and bad with the PT. It just depends on what you're willing to overlook and how much you want to let some things distract you from Star Wars as a whole.

Just my two cents.

How do you know Anakin is selling well? He's only sold out at BBTS as far as I know, or are there other stores that sold out as well?

That's just my assumption though, but there are many sources that make me believe so.
I watched the comment section of HT facebook page when Anakin was officialy introduced last month, it was full of positive and exciting comments/ BBTS pre-oder sold out. If you go to Hot Toys website, you can see the "Hot item" notification below Anakin page... which I think is best selling currently ?

I think there's many people who while they didn't like the PT from a film standpoint, they still liked a lot of the characters.

Regardless of if you like the portrayal or not, Anakin Skywalker is Anakin Skywalker. There's not going to be another one so if you want the character represented, this is it. I could be wrong, but I think Ewan McGregor's portrayal of Obi-Wan has generally been praised and Obi-Wan is a major SW character, so there's going to be people who will want a figure of him that represents him in his prime. Same goes for characters such as Darth Maul (arguably one of the more popular villains in SW), Qui-Gon and Windu.

Myself, for instance. I only enjoyed RotS from a film perspective, but I liked the character of Qui-Gon and I think Darth Maul is a cool villain. Despite TPM being near unwatchable for me, I'd have an interest in possibly having figures of those two characters.

Re: Hot Toys Episode 3 Anakin

I grew up with the OT but I like the PT too. Except Jar Jar. Jar Jar must die!

As one of the "Older guys" in this forum who watched the OT in the Cinema's, the PT never lived up to the expectations of the OT. In fact they didn't even come close. As a younger person nowadays, you've got to try and understand that when the Original films came out they literally were ground breaking cinematography. They were jaw droppingly beautiful and for the the most part, extremely well acted and put together. They stirred up so many emotions in you that films struggle to do these days. They also taught you some very valuable life lessons, i.e standing up for what is right, good will always prevail, "Do or do not, there is no try" etc... :) As a kid these were all things that shaped me into the person that I am today. It's not that I hate the PT I don't, but from my point of view they were more a case of a missed opportunity. The first 3 films were SO good they deserved a better prequel set of films to befit the SW legacy and because of that, I will always look upon them with a sense of disappointment. Oh and BTW I will be getting this Anakin :wink1:

Honestly the prequels have an entirely different feel than the original films. At times it almost is hard to even believe they take place in the same universe as much as Lucas tried to force them together with all his changes. The prequels feel so hollow by comparison to the originals. They just lack the emotion and heart and feel like experiments in CG. It's like there was no restraint shown and rather than using CG as a tool to enhance the films Lucas used it for everything and anything and so many aspects of the films feel fake and in turn the films have aged poorly. There are some merits to the prequels but mostly the negative aspects outweigh the positives for me.

The thing for me is that I grew up with both. I had seen the originals on tv and home video at quite a young age and loved them and was super excited for the prequels because at the time to twelve year old me more Star Wars was awesome. I really liked the prequels as they were coming out and saw them all in the theater numerous times but as I've gotten older and rewatched them they haven't held up as well.

Really Lucas and his changes are probably most to blame as to why I don't like the Prequel Trilogy. I feel like if he had at least made the Original Trilogy available in his preferred version (whatever that was a bad iuiiûat the time because he's changed his mind three damn times) along with the original versions I wouldn't have the disdain for the prequels that I do.

I Agree. The PT films have all aged very badly in comparison to the OT which still holds up well to this day.

In all seriousness, I want a Hot Toys Jar-Jar figure.

That character has been THE butt of all PT jokes that having him on display would be epic.

Heck, I might as well ask for a TPM "Ani" as well and have them share a Detolf shelf.

Jar Jar was never a bad design... it just ended up an annoying character. Like Roger Rabbit, which has to be the most annoying character ever. I can't even watch that movie anymore because of him.

I'm older as well, and saw the PT back in the theaters in the old days. For me the real issue I have with the Prequels is that Lucas didn't really expand on what was already there. What I mean, is that there are so many conversations between characters which paint a picture of what happened, or what things were like, during those times. Lucas basically ignored all of those conversations (except the part about "different points of view"). A good amount of the prequel story was referenced in the OT, and all he had to do was expand on it. They're canon, but I'll always feel it was a wasted opportunity. This figure, however, looks great.

The problem with the prequels is what COULD have been. And in a lot of regards, no matter what Lucas had put out, it never would have satisfied everyone. Lucas tried to do what he did with the OT, use cutting edge tech like no one before - problem is that in the OT, practical effects tend to hold up. It'll always be a physical entity. CGI has improved 100 fold since 2000 and that dates the PT hard. What's interesting is that the PT has good characters, good settings, and even good moments (Kamino always comes to mind for me) - it's just stung together with a narrative that is wayyyy too hit and miss to be cohesive. That's why a lot of us enjoy PT content, but don't love the films the same way as OT.

I grew up on OT - I had Luke/Vader lightsaber fights in the dark with Dad, by all means OT was my Star Wars - but as a kid the flashiness of the prequels definitely caught my eye. As I aged I appreciated the OT more for what it is and was to me as a whole, but found great like for the WORLD of the PT, because I played the prequels with my 3.75" Hasbro figures and collection. It's that part that sticks with me and I still appreciate, which perhaps is a testament to the quality of the designs and EU that came along with those films.

What the PT often lacked is what the ST has done right - Disney has captured the essence of Star Wars in both their films so far - I don't think anyone can really deny that. The films may have their detracting aspects, but it feels the part.

To me, the PT was meant to be nothing more than to give a backstory to Darth Vader as Anakin Skywalker and depict the Jedi in their prime through fancy lightsaber duels.

It did both of those.
