I was 10 when the original finally hit Down Under in '78. My only recollection was seeing it at the drive-in but I may have also seen it at the cinema.

I have a clearer recollection of seeing ESB and ROTJ at the cinema.

Speaking of the SE, another indication of my pro-SW bias is that I don't mind any of the changes except Greedo shooting first!

Aha, I was right! 10 was way too old to experience SW for the first time. I think that's how old my mom was when she took me, lol. No wonder you can't appreciate them. ;)

"Sequel trilogy isnt even that popular in the America (where fans are crazy about OT), in the rest of the world fans love OT and prequels equally, because they actually care about story and idea, and sequels for them is just trash without soul and vision.

Rogue One, for example, had soul. Maybe it wasnt as great as the main 6 movies, but Garreth Edwards definitely understood what SW is. Abrams and Kennedy dont. They just stuff their movies with nostalgia references to make some money from fans. Abrams legitimitely thinks, that SW became great because of practical effects. These ideas "Originals are perfect", "Everyone hates prequels", "Everyone loves sequels" are just myths, that you created in your american fandom, a circlejerk.

If we look at the world and fans from all countries, prequels are almost as popular as the original trilogy, while sequel trilogy is the least popular. Dont let those "2 billion dollars sales" and "9.4 scores from critics" fool you. Its just an illusion of populaity. Last Jedi wont be even close in sales to TFA, because Abrams fooled fans once, but he wont do it twice. And the more Disney will milk Star Wars, the more people will understand, how much better Lucas was."

It's mind boggling to see the depths people will go to justify their point of view....

It can't be as simple as: "Peeps prefer the OT. That's cool. Peeps prefer the PT. That's also cool. Peeps prefer the ST. Cool with me."

Instead we get Star Wars fandom cliques and elitism. Go figure.

The PT upset those who wanted something more like the OT. Those folks eventually got what they wanted with TFA and RO, but what those latest movies show is that you pretty much have to remake or expand the original film to recapture that spirit.

The PT was always going to have a different tone. It was set at the glittering height of the Republic, an almost mythical time of regality. It had to feel different to reflect "a more civilised age".

Those who weren't expecting politics obviously never read the foreword of the original Star Wars novelisation.

Those who thought Anakin wasn't Vader-like enough... that's the point. The less Vader-like, the more dramatic the transformation.

To his credit Lucas stands by the PT to this day and makes no apologies for it. What many see as mistakes were quite deliberate decisions on his part. He earned the right to make the films for himself (and his kids); whether the moviegoing public liked them was secondary. Which is refreshing in its artistic freedom.

For the record, I grew up with the OT, was disappointed with TPM but thought AOTC and ROTS were great.

But I still prefer the OT and, like SilverStar above, wanted nothing more from the PT than a back story.

:goodpost:

I don't particularly like TPM and AotC, but there are select parts of them I like. RotS in its entirety I like and to me, is all I really need as a general backstory.

I just simply like the SW universe in general.

Remember, Vader vs Obi-Wan in Ep IV blew us away because it was like nothing we'd ever seen before. But to a modern audience their Ep III battle is far superior.

My childhood consisted of the OT, but I do believe Vader/Anakin vs. Obi Wan in RotS is the most pivotal moment in all of SW and the best and most dangerous lightsaber duel.

Re: Hot Toys Episode 3 Anakin

I will chime in and say that so much of the PT was told and not shown. From Dooku being a former Jedi, to Anakin's great trial. So much was just spoken, but would have been an infinitely more interesting plot. Which leads me to why I absolute LOVE The Clone Wars series. So much depth, character, and world-building.

The general expectation and hope was that the prequels would be about the Clone Wars, but the war only turned out to be the backdrop.

Instead they were about forbidden love and loss leading to downfall.

As a European, I couldn't disagree more on everything here about PT (story and idea?), ST (loved it) and Rogue One in particular..."They just stuff their movies with nostalgia references to make some money from fans" could be RO catchprase.
But in the end:

"Peeps prefer the OT. That's cool. Peeps prefer the PT. That's also cool. Peeps prefer the ST. Cool with me."

I don't think it's even fair to judge the Sequel Trilogy yet. First of all only one film out of three has released and it was met with generally positive reactions other than a select few who will never accept anything that's not the Original Trilogy. The main argument against The Force Awakens seems to be that it relies too heavily on nostalgia but I still think to bring people back into the fold that was the logical first step and it was done while also introducing new characters and not completely retreading on the Original Trilogy. It also felt far more organic than anything out of the Prequel Trilogy. I think people need to be more open and give the next film a chance before just writing off the new films, especially given that the first entry really is overall a good movie in my opinion. It's not without flaws but it's definitely not bad.

I agree, but for me I don't need two and the main issue with the first one was I really wasn't crazy how the back of the outfit draped/is wired up. Definitely a trade off but I think it's worth it for my needs. I could see lots of folks just trying to get the head sculpt for their first one.

Since this one comes with the helm this will be all I need. The way the robe draped on the first one was the reason why I always hesitated to pick one up. I won't have a hood, which is definitely cool as @#$%, but like TonTon said it's a trade off and I think it's a worthwhile one.

Yeah...I just say all the photos...glad he comes with helmet but won't use it with the new head sculpt...what's up with the cape man. Maybe it's me but it just looks weird. Hot Toys did good job on it ...I just mean weird from a costume design. He would look way cooler without a cape IMO. His outfit without the cape is getting close to ROTJ Luke in some ways.

Agreed. It seems that people that are "mega fans" of one particular era feel the need to trash the other and try to justify that it's bad for themselves? lol

I enjoy all the movies. Love the ST so far... Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the prequels for the in-universe stuff it added - but as a film they're pretty bad. If you think the acting, writing, execution, direction, etc. is superior to the OT or ST then lol. The PT has a lot of cool designs... in terms of story writing, dialogue, direction, etc.. I don't know many people that are able to sit through them without making fun of the cringe.

I think the cape looks better in the promo images from the movie we've seen so far than on the figure.
I don't know, the material looks too thick/heavy on the Hot Toys.

I'll probably wait to see it in hand.

I could not disagree with this more. Nothing about Kylo is iconic. Not yet.

Darth Vader is iconic.
Han Solo is iconic.
Princess Leia is iconic.
Indiana Jones is iconic.
Captain America is iconic.
Batman is iconic.
Harry Potter is iconic.
The Blues Brothers are iconic.
Gandalf is iconic.

Kylo Ren has been in one movie. He killed an iconic, beloved character, but otherwise got b*tched in a lightsaber fight by a woman who never held a lightsaber before, lost the map to Luke Skywalker due to poor judgement, ordered the death of a bunch of innocent civilians, and lost a high importance prisoner that his leader counted on. He's done absolutely nothing iconic to this point. He's nothing more than a villain. He may become iconic at some point, but he's about as far away from icon as one can be.
