Hey all I have a quick question; I'm interested in getting a Mark III but not sure whether to get the BD or regular version. I'd like the Mark III to have the regular display stand (the black one that says "Mark whatever") instead of the platform one. Does the BD version come w/ the black stand? Or does only the regular version does? Thanks!

Regular version only.

It sucks that it doesn't come with a normal black HT stand! I just picked an IM MkIII BD on eBay for a reasonable price, but I'm going to have to search for a stand now :(

Sorry to hear that! That's why I wanted to check first before I bought one! I'm sure you can find a stand on the forums! Good luck!

The same thing with a few other figures. T-1000 as Sarah Connor also came without a stand.

I would rather get the Battle Damaged one rather than the regular version. It doesnt come with the black stand, but you can get that for pretty cheap and like others have said, just buy the decal.

Also, I had both figures at one point and the Battle Damage figure was better in my opinion. It had a better color, it really shined on my shelf rather than the sort of dull looking regular release. Either way, both are nice and you cant really go wrong.

Thanks for your opinion, it really helps. I am going for a Hall of Armor sort of thing, I have Mark I, II on pre-order, IV, V on pre-order and need III and VI. I wanted to use the black stands on all of them on display, I guess if I wanted to find a stand and decal I can do that, but it really depends on what price I can get it for. If I can get the BD for the price I'm looking for, then I'll get that, if not, then the regular version.

Is there any other differences b/w the two?

Yer, I knew it didn't come with one, but I wanted the BD version anyway as I think he looks better and I have heard of problems with paint fading on the original. I will just have to search for one.

Yer like I said above, I bought it for these reasons. Where would I buy the decal and black stand? I'm new to this so I'm not sure on these things...

The sculpt is different. The torso is the most obvious because on the BD version the upper part of the torso is removable and because of that it looks a little disproportioned in certain pictures but in hand its not noticeable. Also you get two helmets, alot more features on the suit (things that come off and open up), and you can go for the battle damaged or clean look because of the alternate pieces. The regular version does come with alternate head sculpt which is pretty cool (the BD comes with a second beat up/damaged helmet with stark underneath but you can only see part of his face). They are both nice, so like i said you really cant go wrong.

Seeing all the wonderful pictures in this thread makes me regret selling my mark 3 BD about 2 months ago at a low price too...kicking myself now..

I got this guy today, he's my second HT figure. I have the Mark VI aswell, and I have to say, the difference in quality is actually quite astonishing! The Mark VI is in a league of it's own! Paint wise and build wise, he is far superior. I don't like how the BD head on the Mark III doesn't light up either :( Also, I find that my Mark VI is very stiff in comparison to the Mark III. I bought the Mark III second hand though, and the Mark VI brand new, is this why?

Thanks

Having owned both figures, I can't say that I find the Mark VI to be any more sturdy or well-built than the Mark III Battle-Damaged was. I wish both had more weight to them, were less hollow feeling, and were less fragile-feeling. The Mark VI might actually feel a little more fragile to me as the swappable parts on mine (namely the leg panels and the chestplates) are always popping off while I'm handling him.

2 pictures of my Mark 3 BD before it found a new home...:acme

Though not completely compatible... you can use MK.6 BD head with the BD mask on BD MK3

Ok without diggingt hrough 334 pages, can anyone explain how the waist mod is done to this figure?

and
Is there anyone who would charge me a small fee to do this mod?

THANKS

Hi All,

Thought I would show some pics and post a bit about modifying my Mark 3 BD as I recently took the plunge and got my screwdrivers out :)

DSCN1019.jpg

the mark 3.5!

So it started when I got fed up of my Mark 3 looking like the gimpy stepchild next to my Mark 4 and 6! I decided to see what I could do to improve it. Firstly, it had to have a hand upgrade to the superior poseable finger hands from the Mark 4 and 6. The colour match is pretty much spot on between 3BD and 4/6, looks like possibly even the same paint. They fit perfectly too. I got a set on ebay no problem for not too expensive. Everyone should do this mod I think!

Next, I wanted to address the two main issues with the bd - the giraffe neck and the anorexic waist. after a google hunt (which lead back to the sideshow forums, funnily enough!) I found some pics of the 3 taken completely apart, with instructions. Bingo.

So first, I did the 'neck mod.' I initially fancied putting my mark 4 head on as the proportions of the head look better. However it doesnt fit on the mark 3 neck so I used the mark 4 neck too - it fits, but it still looks like a giraffe neck.

next, I tried getting a spare Mark 4 neck on ebay to modify and experiment with - basically I pulled out the rubber socket in a bit to make it sit a bit lower in the torso. However it still looked a bit high So I put the mark 3 head on the modified mark 4 neck and left it like that for a bit. but it still looked too high! More drastic modification required.

I decided to take my mark 3 completely apart. It took me about 45 mins to get it into a pile of bits on desk. The main thing that took the time was the two gold coloured screw covers in the back. They are a _____ to get out! I made a little bit of a mess of the paint, but I have no plans to sell. Its a bit scary pulling apart something so nice and so expensive, but its something thats been bugging me for a while. I then took out the ball joint for the neck to attach to, in a bit to allow the neck to sit lower. The rubber collar is tight enough to hold either neck in place just fine without any sort of joint. So now I have the option of either the mark 3 or 4 head, both look pretty good and the heads sit as low as they possibly can without non reversable mods.

Thoughts? which one looks best??

The waist mod was pretty straightforward - once I had iron man completely in bits I slipped two bits of folded card about 2mm thick each side down the sides of the rubber torso section. I also tweaked the mounting holes of the torso rubber section so it sat lower - I didnt like the slight gap between the pants and the torso that mine had. It was trickier to put back together as the chest part had to be stretched a bit wider to fit over the new wider torso. overall though, now the body section looks a bit less skinny.

conclusion...
I am happier with it now and glad I did the mods. it still looks gimpy and underfed, but a bit less so. The mark 4 hands, head and modded neck are definite improvements - it looks more accurate to the movie, closer to the original ht mark 3 and stands up a little better alongside 4 :)

Here they are for comparison! it has the mark 3 head / modded neck in some pics and the mark 4 head / modded neck in others. just to confuse everyone.

Incidently, taking the photos of these two together earlier I couldn't help but think that the HT mark 4 still looks miles better. if anyone has a mark 3 and thinks the mark 4 isnt different enough to get... well the pics speak for themselves...
