Sorry for derailing the thread.
Snakey Jones, im a "glass half empty" kind of guy ^^

Replicantsavior,
Black mirror is a great show, twilight zone like.
Only 6 épisodes so far but they are awesome.

Still no shaw?

When I read the wiki mentioning Twilight Zone compared to Black Mirror I was hooked. I love those old Twilight Zone episodes. I think I've stumbled on to old sci-fi comics too. I was reading some of the Wally Wood Artist Edition pages on the Heritage Auction founder's site. I still haven't picked up the book but I think I'm going to get some of those old comics/stories. They have some dark sci-fi twists in them. And I would bet influenced stuff like Alien.

At this point, unless another toy show is coming up I don't know about. I guess Hot Toys won't show anything till SDCC. Maybe others here follow Hot Toys more than me and know more.

I honestly doubt a sequel will actually happen. And yes I've read all the snippets of info that have been made about a sequel, nothing concrete there though, and I genuinely can't see the studio risking any more cash on non sure-fire movie of this size. Too much of a gamble, if Scott and co turned in a much smaller script/movie perhaps. But I can't see that happening. The market just isn't there for Prometheus 2, not the mass market required for a 150-200 million FX movie.

I'm sad about all this too, and it's my opinion, not interested in debating it with anyone. I know the VFX sup pretty well and he said it aint happenin. So I fear Shaw maybe the only figure we see from HT. Unless fingers crossed something weird happens. :(

TRON Legacy cost more money and made less than Prometheus. Plus Prometheus is a far more impressive movie visually than TRON Legacy. As much as I like TRON, I would put money on a sequel to Prometheus first as it was a movie that was far more creative and respectful to its roots compared to TRON Legacy.

I'm thinking if they decide to they could do a low budget P2 centered on Shaw and David. Just look at Moon or Solaris.

More interpesctive and focused on David and Shaw's relationship and Shaw's continuing struggle with creation and her being. Obviously there would need to be money spent on set pieces for the Engineer's planet and work on the Engineers themselves.

Yes, that would be the way to go, wonder if Scott would be up for that though, without him it's dead in the water.

Prometheus made way more money than other films who have gotten sequels of late. Especially overseas, and with a much smaller budget.

Those other movies you speak of wont be getting sequels either. Unless they are already part of a proven franchise. Hollywood is not taking too many risks these days.

Prometheus had a very large budget and a huge marketing spend.
It didn't lose money but neither was it a massive return for its cost.
And unfortunately there is now nothing to guarantee a sequel won't be a complete flop?
They used their "new Ridley Scott alien movie" ticket already as well mis-representing the movie somewhat in the amazing trailers.

Prometheus 2 "at last your questions will be answered"
Oh no, wait... they did that already for the DVD release.

They said it only needed 300 mill to make profit and it made over 400 mill
it was a hit and has a higher Rotten Tomatoes score than Hobbit

saying the films it made more than = not counting if it's in a franchise is an excuse.
Prometheus is a franchise as well. and had a much smaller budget than most of those.

Prometheus is not a franchise.
That's just silly. Unless you are including it as a part of the two other older movie series.

It is a franchise. Hence Prometheus 2 and its connection to Alien.
You're silly

If Prometheus 2 was made, yes it would be a franchise. It hasnt so its not.
I think you need to look up the term franchise. If "Jack The Giant Slayer" gets a sequel (equally likely) than that would become a franchise. Right now, it's not.

Prometheus IS not a franchise. It could be if it had several successful sequels. Fox WANTED it to become a franchise.

And should it get a sequel, both Scott and Lindoff (now departed) have said repeatedly it will tangent even further away from Alien, not join up or get closer to it.

Not equally likely. Jack the giant slayer had a much bigger budget and is flopping.....$240,000,000 plus marketing

We're talking about Prometheus 2 (which has been announced). Prometheus 1 is already made, so it's a franchise.

Show me the official Fox announcement please, I must have missed it?

I heard some loose talk from Scott, and some garbled chatter from Rapace, but nothing official. When does it start shooting? This is becoming more and more common in Hollywood. Movies get all the way into Pre-viz and concept design and are still shut down or cancelled over financial concerns. Prometheuses doesn't even have a script.

Prometheus had a marketing budget of around $150million, add that to the cost of the movie and you begin to see the real budget for the movie.

And incidentally this line of conversation was about whether there would or wouldn't be a sequel, you are acting like its a done deal, it really really isn't. I hope we see a follow up.

The sequel was officially announced way back in the summer when it hit 300 million by Emma Watts the Fox president.
and it went on to make over 400 mill.

Nope, more "Scott wants to push ahead" "it WOULD be released" type hyperbole, at the time rumoured to used to escalate public interest for the home video release. When you can show me an official Fox Studio or ScottFree press release, I will believe it's happening.

:dunno

@rory: where did you get the figure of 150 million for the marketing budget? id love a link. :)

@rory: where did you get the figure of 150 million for the marketing budget? id love a link. :)

There isn't a link. Studios never release full marketing figures to the public. They release A FIGURE but not the figure. Alice in Wonderland for example announced a marketing figure of 70-80million on marketing depending on what you read, but studio insiders say they spent nearly twice that, and the same again on John Carter. Prometheus had one of the largest international marketing campaigns seen, tv, press and viral.
So that's where I got the figure from, that's what's rumoured, but it was massive even by industry standards. :)
