Nah I don't think I'll bother. Yet anyway. I still need to have a proper mess with it maybe a full undress/redress and futz. It's soooo good haha

Does look really good indeed. If I had this figure, I think the only futzing I'd do based on first glance is just put the tunic over the armor and move the belt boxes closer to the buckle. Don't see a need to do anything drastic.

Unless one is using this figure as an ESB or RotJ stand in. Then keep the tunic as is, of course.

You get that off the description? Because RO Vader is way taller compared to ANH Vader. Someone posted a side by side and it was much more than .02 inches.

HT got their own measurements wrong on ANH Vader, he's close to 13.25 if I remember when I measured mine (which is close to accurate but still too tall).

Yeah, I don't have either in hand yet. Once my Rogue One figure comes I'll get an accurate measurement.

Here's the actual difference... (nocternus pictures)

Darth Vader actual height = 2.02/2.03m which is 79.5/80.0 inches (rounded up)

ANH Figure height = 13.75 inches which is 82.5 if scaled up (2.096m)

Rogue One figure height = 13.77 inches which is 82.62 if scaled up (2.099m)

Too tall.

You're just using the official measurements. The actual ANH Vader is about 13.5, so scaled up that's 81" which is close.

Yeah I plan doing that with the belt boxes. Gonna have a futz later on I think!

I really went back and forth on this for a while and I do think R1 Vader looks better than ANH. On the ANH, all I see are the awful gloves and the fat legs. I'm really not sure how they looked at those two things and thought, yes, this is good. It's like they purposely made it inaccurate.

And reading the horror stories for the electronics made me really change my mind. I was seriously about to order the ANH, but then HT announced the R1 Vader the very next day. It's all down to preference really. In continuity with the films, they're essentially the same look, regardless of the physical differences of the figures. I think it's great that we have two high quality Vaders to choose from. :)

Both are indeed great figures. I was even briefly contemplating getting a R1 Vader to go in addition to my ANH one, but decided against it. Which one you go with ultimately does come down to preference and also, what look you're going for.

If you don't already have ANH Vader, I'd go with this one. It's cheaper because it doesn't have all the needless electronics (which I've never once used on mine). However, as mentioned, it also depends on what you're going for. If you prefer the R1 look for the majority of his scenes (excluding the last scene) or just want a Vader figure in general to represent Vader regardless of what film it's from, then the R1 figure between the two is without a doubt the one to get. If you want the ANH look though, I personally think there are too many inaccuracies (shiny armor, too big of chest box, pleated tunic, etc.) with the R1 Vader figure to pass it off as ANH Vader. Not to say the ANH Vader figure doesn't have its share of inaccuracies also, but it's closer to ANH Vader out of the box than R1 Vader is I think.

Or if you want an ESB or RotJ Vader stand in, R1 Vader is great for that as well right out of the box without putting the tunic over the shoulder armor.

Thanks for the info on height differences, guys.

presently, I only have the original Sideshow Vader. It's definitely ready for a replacement but I've so far passed on all subsequent versions, waiting for the Hot Toys ESB version.

The HT ANH Vader does have the interrogation droid, which I do like a lot.

Get that droid separately on ebay.

Wait for ESB Vader. I really don't think it will be that long. I can see a preview/tease by SDCC. Rogue One will be a distant warm memory by June. And HT will continue to crank out the Vaders. Expect an ROTJ one as well.

If I do get another Vader, it'd definitely be the ESB version.

If I were to stick with just one though, I'd personally stick with ANH Vader. There's something about the tunic over the shoulder armor look that I like better than the shoulder armor over the tunic. It makes him look darker to me, being that it covers up the majority of the grey/silver stripes on the shoulder armor.

I think I might have an extra HT Interrogator Droid LOL

What, is your collection based on behind the scenes of movie making?

Well people in here base the height of OT Vader off of Prowse's height, don't they? Along with however tall he looks next to other characters and how much height we estimate the costume adds. Which doesn't exactly seem like an exact science to me. So I don't see why one couldn't factor in Wilding's height as well if they wanted to (at least for Vader's appearance in Rogue One).

He's 'supposed' to be the same Vader though.

And I agree with you, basing measurements off actors 'reported' heights is not the best way to do it... eyeballing relative to other characters is usually the best way.

To be honest, I still haven't figured out what people base the heights of these figures on. The height of the character or the height of the actor/actress? I've seen people saying both.

As mentioned, I personally just use the eyeball method as well. If it looks relatively in scale to other figures (at least from the same line), then it's fine by me. No need to break out rulers and start doing mathematical equations.

Although to be honest, I've stopped letting it be something that bothers me. If I like a figure, I get it.

Vader has always seemed so huge and larger than life in the movies that it doesn't really bother me if the figure is a bit oversized, or dwarfs all my other figures. At least as long as he looks right proportionally (unlike, say, the first 15" tall SS Vader that had ridiculously long legs).

And plus HT has already made Kylo Ren way oversized, so we at least have to make sure Vader is still taller than him.

A factor that makes the RO Vader taller is the sole on the boots. The ANH boots are pretty low profile, whereas the RO boots have a thicker sole / heel. They are also patterned / textured , whereas the ANH is not.
