Hot Toys Darth Vader nose plug black repaint.jpg

I finally got the nose plug out I didn`t have to go through the trouble like you did. I used a flat head screwdriver under the nose plug and wiggled it unlit it popped out or flew out I should say. so what all did you do to the nose plug matrix

There is one problem when you do the nose plug mod. The walls of the nose become too thin to be accurate. Vader looks like he has a clown nose, just silver.

I told myself I'd only own one Vader (ESB), but this guy looks just too good... First thing I did after pre-ordering was buy a ANH codpiece!

I just shorten the plug and put it back in all I have to do is paint it silver still. I guess it does make a difference with it being shorter the nose plug

Yeah, I agree that's the one problem with the fully modded nose (push plug back, cover with putty and sculpt/curve putty using paintbrush end, paint dull silver - what I'm doing) is that it does look a little big and the nose walls a bit thin. And yeah, perhaps a touch of the clown nose issue.

But overall, I think it captures the Vader look best given the limitations of what you have to work with in the HT nose area, and it looks way better than the chromed double-nose effect the stock fig has.

Found this picture of NYCC 2016 DV. Nice updates from the ANH version. The cape flows more screen accurate over the shoulders, amour, inner cloak, hands and cod piece look new.

The HT ANH codpiece is a little wonky looking too. It's strange that the codpiece seems to be more difficult to pull off than you'd think - both HT codpieces are off, and the SSC DX ESB version is a little undersized.

While this figure looks a bit better than the HT ANH version (mostly due to new hands and no dull spray on the helmet,) I really wish HT or SSC or anyone could just produce a Vader that nails his look in one of the OT films.

We've had so many 1/6 Vaders, and they've all had either glaring problems (e.g. an inch too tall, 1/7 instead of 1/6 scale, wonky mask sculpt) or just generally looked nothing like how he looks in the respective film. HT ANH Vader was a classic example - quite a nice figure that didn't look like ANH Vader in so many ways without a fair few mods. Now this new Vader - which may or (judging by HT's outcome on the ANH version) may not look how Vader looks in RO.

It's just frustrating that there's been no screen-accurate ANH or ESB Vader, far and away his most iconic looks, yet we get yet another "generic" Vader (kinda ESB bright chest armor, ANH-style helmet but shiny and bright gun metal) and a supposedly still-coming 1/4 ROTS version.

I agree that there's been no screen accurate OT Vader, but it's thanks to this that I've gotten a lot of fun doing my custom vader! Knowing my laziness I would never have put together my vader if someone had sold a well done one.

:wink1::lol

If you look at mine you'll see that it keeps the overall thickness on the nose. I looked closely at my EFX Legend Vader as well as my ANH Vader pics and the HT nose plug mod makes the walls of the nose too thin. Like i shown above if you repaint the inner lip on the outside black it looks more accurate than doing the nose plug. I'm even thinking of adding a bit of putty inside that barely observable thin line and then repaint the front of the nose. Some day.

He looks awesome on that photo.

He just needs a different codpiece, everything else is great.

If you look for perfection, you may want to mod him and kitbash more stuff, but otherwise, it's an almost perfect out of the box Vader.

I regret getting Sideshow Deluxe, and will probably try to get the body, boots and helmet from this one.

It is the way of things. The way of 1/6.

But seriously, I used to wonder if companies weren't trying, if they were incompetent, if budget and development deadlines stopped them, if the Toy Illuminati wouldn't allow definitive versions ... at this point I'm kinda like ... **** it, I'm gonna go live my life. :monkey2

On a brighter note, the stuff coming out right now is the best it's ever been.

After you sand down the plug push it back in so it sits deeper...then using some modeling clay and the tip of a wee paint brush handle (to help replicate a concave effect) sculpt a new nose on top of the plug...then when it's dry paint it gunmetal. It's better explained over in the HT ANH mods thread..

Yeah the walls are a little thinner but for me when done right the mod makes a huge difference. Your vader looks great and painting the outer edge of the plug helps a little but it's still very noticeable and makes it appear a little too small. It's all about ones preference at the end of the day:)

Ok so I thought or better yet are people planning on modding their R1 Vaders to be more screen accurate before the movie comes out.

I was just making sure that is what I read. I POd the R1 Vader but I myself would never mod it. Maybe getting an extra helmet to mess with but that's probably not gonna happen either.

So for those who are getting R1 Vader, are you wanting him to be as accurate as possible to how he looks in R1, or are you going to mod it to simply look like your personal favorite interpretation of Vader, not necessarily screen accurate to anything?

I ask because I see many people saying they're going to swap out the cod piece, but it looks screen accurate to R1 based on how the suit looks.

For me, I'm switching out the codpiece to get it closer to ANH vader (along with a bit of weathering here and there).
