I think for me it just depends on how much I end up liking Rogue One. If it's a great movie that depicts Vader in a really badass way, then I'll be happy to keep the figure as a Rogue One Vader. But if not then I'll simply mod him into an ANH Vader.

And if it ends up not looking completely accurate to ANH, then so be it, since I can't think of any figure I have that's gotten everything 100% right anyway. There's always going to be some little detail that's off, but from what I can see this is still the best looking Vader that's been made yet.

Ok that's what I was basically reading so I'll just st leave it as is but I was gonna anyway.

I'll wait for a better Vader for the ANH look but I actually like the Lord of the Sith version myself. Not sure why they all have some issue of t seems although overall there are a few good ones.

The HT ANH codpiece is a little wonky looking too. It's strange that the codpiece seems to be more difficult to pull off than you'd think - both HT codpieces are off, and the SSC DX ESB version is a little undersized.

That's why I had to break down and scratch build one of my own. It's still not perfect but I like it better than all the other options out there.

I would say if you like the doll, get it. If you don't like the doll, don't get it.
:lol

My uber critiquing days are behind me I think. I'm not really in the doll game much now anyway, but even I'll admit the obsessing over minutiae gets tiring eventually.

SW is it's own beast though, plenty of fertile ground to complain about - & one thing that folks who want perfection need to deal with, is that customizing is your only way to achieve that. Don't ever look to these comapnies for it.

So you've gone beyond the valley of the dolls?

For me that's scary, uncharted territory. What's it like out there?

^^ Hey, Hot Toys look! It's a 1/6 ANH Vader that looks like Vader from ANH.:horror

:lol

Love the codpiece. Is that leather with a bead of plastic over it or did you use the HT ANH cod as the basis?

Your scratchbuild looks fantastic. How did you create that?

One thing, you seem to be missing is the bottom wrap edge down at the bottom of the cod.

Thanks!

Yeah, your absolutely right. It was more difficult than I expected to warp the plastic in two directions so that it bent inward vertically on the thigh sides, as well as under the *ahem* huevos.

I was able to bend it more than it looks though. It's nicer looking in hand.

I used a plastic container, and cut out a cod piece shape, heated it up and bent it in the right places.

I wrapped a thin layer of real leather for padding, then added some thin pleather over that.

For the oval part, believe it or not, I cut up an old iPhone bumper case, and used the hard plastic gap that gives access to the connection port.

Pics of the process below.

Now that is some scratch building badassedness.
