This is honestly because, I feel anyway, that filmmakers believe they can do better. That they can "fix" what they think are crappy , cheap suits from the OT. Just use modern materials and make it look like it did, it's not hard. Like you said, amateurs do it al the time.

Well I would have been fine with creating a nicer and more expensive costume that maintains the basic ANH look. But like others said, it seems pretty clear that they wanted something closer to his ESB and ROTJ look instead.

Nah. That scene is from the beginning of the movie, short after they will release her from the imperial transport. She meet the K-2S0 for the first time right here.

Maybe, but I still would have expected them to get closer than they did. Especially when even amateurs on the RPF can put together a more convincing ANH Vader costume:

Haha! Took the words right out of my mouth. I was actually going to use the exact same image too![emoji1]

Lol. I wouldn't exactly call the person who made the replica in that image an amateur. :wink1: I believe that's Gino's work. He works for EFX. But I get what you guys are saying.

Clearly this guy's work is a whole lot better than the average cosplay costume out there.

Average cosplayer...

Yeah, I think it's pretty safe to say if they wanted something that looked like ANH Vader, they would have done it.

You can point to poor recreations of Ackbar, Nien Nunb in TFA, other OT creatures in the PT like Yoda etc. but that comes down to having to recreate a rubber mask without the original mold. With Vader they had hard objects that could either be literally reused or cast - and the differences between RO Vader and ANH Vader are too obvious not have been on purpose.

My guess is what we've seen - shiny, cleanly silver/black painted Vader - is how Disney wants "Vader" to look in their SW movies (regardless of RO's link to ANH), to then drive how their Vader merchandise looks.

Gareth Edwards knows far too much about SW (a real obsessive) to have let a Vader that doesn't look just like ANH Vader slip by. He's as minute-detail minded as the people on this forum.

He's also one of the only remaining major characters from the prequels that has a continuing story.

And an original actor at the right age to continue the role.

Should have been Kenobi instead of the Solo movie.

Agree with this. Can't imagine anyone as Han Solo other than Ford. We already got a young Solo with a young Ford in ANH.

A film about Kenobi in his prime though would require Anakin, no?

Well it would be Kenobi between ROTS and ANH. His prime has already been filmed...during the prequels....

After the duel on Mustafar, they didn't meet face to face again for nearly 20 years until the Death Star. There's no reason for Vader to show up in person in a Kenobi movie.

It would definitely have to be the duo reunited, both in their prime, though Ben sans beard.

The problem with the Obi film idea is that you are pigeonholed to pre ANH era and we know he was sitting away on Tattooine the entire time. There are things you can still do with that story but it's not just as simple as making the film.

Well, Obi wasting away on tatooine is a Legacy concept, right? So doesn't mean he was on tatooine the entire time.

Nowhere is stated that he was there the entire time. But even if so there is plenty of things he could do. Dealing with Tusken raiders, Hutts, scum & villany from the whole galaxy. Inquisitors, imperials. Good writer can come up with a nice story.

Exactly! There is a ton to tell...not to mention his meditations, him dealing with the loss of his friend and the Jedi order, perhaps even fighting off imperials looking for the "rumour" of a Jedi on tattoine. There is so much one could do....it doesn't take too much of an imagination to posit the fact that Kenobi may have done more than just be a hermit after ROTS.

The prequels have done enough to ruin ObiWan as a character, making him incredibly wooden and boring, we don't need Disney making things worse. Do all of these characters need to be milked until they're utterly unlikeable and you forget why you were even a fan of this stuff? The young Han Solo movie on the way is already a nightmare.
