The prequels have done enough to ruin ObiWan as a character, making him incredibly wooden and boring, we don't need Disney making things worse. Do all of these characters need to be milked until they're utterly unlikeable and you forget why you were even a fan of this stuff? The young Han Solo movie on the way is already a nightmare.

Yeah, tbh I thought McGregor was a total snore as Ben - not necessarily his fault I guess. Seemed to get lost in the impression of Guinness and the terrible dialog.

Prequel versions of characters are usually doomed, but there are movies like Godfather II that do it well by setting up a really urgent new story world around the younger character - the PT really had none of that though.

I do think part of it was McGregor though - he plays intense/edgy really well (Trainspotting) but is quite bland in straighter fare (Salmon Fishing, Tsunami movie) and his star has waned in the past decade. Not sure Disney would bank on him, and also him playing a role from a Prequel, a trilogy they seem to working hard to ignore.

They are ignore him that much so he did voice overs for Ep VII and VIII ...

Ahhhhh, so this is where the new Vader Codpiece originates........:lol :hi5:

It would definitely have to be the duo reunited, both in their prime, though Ben sans beard.

A few things to keep in mind. Both George and members of the story group have basically implied he does in fact just sit on Tattooine the entire time. It doesn't mean he just sits and gets drunk but you can't have any long leaves from the planet.

And Clone Wars/Rebels are Canon. So the clown wars era is covered for the most part and we probably need to see how this season of Rebels plays out since it seems like he might be showing up on it in the pre ANH era.

Disney is running the shots now, I doubt whatever Lucas has said behind the scenes matters much to them.

I fully expect them to remake the OT eventually, 10 or 15 years down the line.

Nothing in this comment makes any sense. Everything George has stated is canon. And the story groups entire purpose is to maintain canonization.

I really hope all of you "yeah but Disney" people realize that the Story Group members work for Lucasfilm and were all employed there prior to the Disney acquisition.

So the blogger pics were removed and there aren't any in hand pics... What's going on? I've already seen in hand pics of Arkham Joker and he JUST came out.

Yeah even though he was by far the best part of the prequels, his portrayal of the young Obi-Wan still always felt a bit off to me. He played him as a dull and boring stick in the mud who was already acting like an old man in his 70s-- even though Guiness had this certain twinkle in his eye that made you think he was much more of a rebel and troublemaker in his youth like Anakin. Which of course would be more consistent with them being good friends instead of having mostly some weird mentor/student relationship like we actually got.

That said though, it would still be pretty fun to see McGregor playing the character again, and in a much better movie.

Anybody read the new Rogue One prequel novel? I'm reading it now, about half way through. It's pretty good. It jumps around a bit in timeline from near the end of the clone wars to obviously right before the movie. Tarkin and Krennic don't like each other at all. Maybe Vader does go to town on Krennic and fights some Death Troopers. Now that would be awesome and make this movie worthy of taking place before the OT!!! But I doubt it... :(

And the name of novel is? I know just about something called "rebel secret documents" or so.

Yeah, it's funny McGregor played Ben apparently solely based on 70 year old Ben/Guinness. Guinness was certainly secretive, but he was gay/bi and very much a party boy in his youth and if you watch his early films, that fun/sly side really comes through - he had a flair for comedy. You'd never know that watching McGregor's performance. I know he was playing to expectations (and a "wise wizard" icon as a young man - which doesn't really work) but it just came across as pretty lifeless to me.
