I'm on the verge of buying a HT ANH Vader and I'm very accuracy oriented. If you have a moment could you please share what issues/innacuracies have been fixed when compares to the RO Vader?

I don't mind repainting but I'd love to get the most accurate basis figure

It seems this is the best out of the box figure if you're fine repainting a little bit.

So much OCD in this thread....

^Haha, this!

Or maybe this movie was made 40 years after the original and RO's filmmakers aren't too concerned with that level of continuity? Nah, that's crazy talk!

Well, just off the top of my head, the belt boxes are positioned much better (and a lot of people reported breaking the fragile belt when trying to reposition the boxes on the ANH version). They added the straps holding the shin guards in place. The gloves look a million times better. The chest/shoulder armor is painted correctly (as in, it matches the rogue one paint - the ANH chest armor didn't correctly match ANY version of Vader seen in any of the movies...). It LOOKS like they might have actually gotten the face mask painted correctly - specifically the eyelid areas seem to be black like they should be. That was a HUGE flaw on the ANH version that really throws off the look and can really only be fixed by breaking the helmet apart to repaint it. I'm sure there's more, but what I've listed so far is more than enough for me to say it's the best out of the box so far.

The ANH has great bones, but requires a LOT more work to get it to look "right". This one looks like, out of the box it already looks pretty "right" and only needs very minor mods and some weathering to get a great ANH look, if that's what you want. Granted, everyone has their own ideas of what looks "right", but this is mine.

To me, this is the first 1/6 Vader I've seen that looks so close that if I'm fortunate enough to get one, I may not feel like he needs any mods at all. I can't say that about ANY previous 1/6 vader...

So by saying this one looks great, do you guys mean as in accurate to rogue one or as Vader in general? I want a ANH Vader, not ROTS or rogue one Vader.

Perusing the pics that have been posted, I'm definitely not sold on this Vader.
However, there are a few things that I do like, so I might get one and use the parts I like for my ANH Vader. I especially like the new boots and shin guards.

From the pics I seen of Vader in RO....looks like he has football shoulder pads on, and strutting along to confront Krennic. Well that's what I see...:lol

No one is really going to know which is better until this Vader is in hand with the majority of good futzers on this board.

One thing is for certain: the gloves on the RO are better than the strange ones that came with ANH.

My Vader has arrived in the UK. But I might be stung by customs. Bugger!!!

Yeah, if you want a truly accurate ANH Vader, NEITHER is really accurate out of the box. It is MY OPINION, based solely on pictures we've seen so far, that the rogue one vader would be easier to customize into an accurate ANH Vader. This is largely because many of the nitpicky details appear to be better from the start on this version and thus require less work to get to the really accurate point.

It is also because of these better details (apparently accurate paint scheme on the facemask - specifically the eyelids, more accurate armor, better belt, shin guard straps, gloves, etc.) that for me personally, out of the box this guy might actually be "close enough" that I wouldn't even bother changing anything. Yes I can spot the differences between this and any of the actual OT versions of Vader. But unlike, say, the ROTS suit which is radically different in many ways, this version only varies in some more minor areas that varied from OT suit to OT suit anyway.

Please also keep in mind I'm specifically talking about this hot toys figure, NOT necessarily the actual suit used for filming rogue one!

EDIT:
For what it's worth, here's a list of what I think would be needed to make a truly awesome ANH style Vader out of this guy. Again, based SOLEY ON THE PICTURES WEVE SEEN:

-weather helmet and chest armor
-repaint shoulder bells
-lower dome (maybe)
-put tunic over chest armor (maybe replace tunic to get rid of pleats)
-get a ANH style saber hilt
-new cod piece

And that's about it. A lot less than what people have had to do to the actual ANH figure...

Everyone knows darth Vader has a light saber. Why wouldn't it be included? I'm sure he's carrying one in the film. I haven't read up on any spoilers but does anyone expect to see Vader in more than 3 scenes tops?? Probably at the end chasing down leia that leads right into SW. Shocker!

Brilliant! Thank you for your imput. The decision seems much easier now!

Yeah, who cares what it says on the box... When in hand images come out, look at both an make an informed decision then.

Man, I hope some of you guys only act like this online. I'm getting Rainman vibes.

The problem is, the newest is always the best, especially with people on this board. I've seen it time and time again -- same with movies -- then, once the thrill of the new fades, the more accurate opinions start to bubble up.

It will take a few weeks once everyone starts getting this in hand to really know what is the better figure.

One would guess the RO Vader would be improved... but who really knows?

Knowing HT, I have a feeling one will need both Vaders to make a great ANH Vader. But of course, once HT announces the ESB Vader, no one will give a rats *** about the ANH one anymore.

So by saying this one looks great, do you guys mean as in accurate to rogue one or as Vader in general? I want a ANH Vader, not ROTS or rogue one Vader.

That's one thing I think people forget to realize.

They'll say a particular figure that's intended to conform to a particular film, doesn't look like the character in general because in another film, he looked a different way. It's not intended to look like Vader in general; it's intended to look like Vader as he looks in R1.

Of course you sometimes may need to do some futzing and some mods in order to get it spot on accurate to how the character looked in the film, but generally, HT creates the figures to represent a character's look from a particular film.
