Change into new... beat up looking armor?

Yeah it's trendy, like ripped jeans or distressed t-shirts.

From the pics I seen of Vader in RO....looks like he has football shoulder pads on, and strutting along to confront Krennic. Well that's what I see...:lol

I look forward to this scene in the movie

^^^ Truth!

This is RO Vader. Not ANH, regardless of how close in time the movie takes place. In many ways, this RO Vader looks closer to ESB/ROTJ Vader than it does to ANH (and not just because the tunic is under the armor).

:exactly:

Always baffles me when I sometimes see people say a figure from a particular film doesn't look like the character because in this other, more iconic film, he looked like "this".

That being said, I do think the weathered belt and belt boxes on this figure more accurately match Vader's ANH belt than what the belt does on the actual ANH figure. I'd consider picking the belt up parted out and using that on my ANH Vader. Aside from that, I'd say the ANH Vader figure out of the box looks more like ANH Vader than this one. Makes sense. :lol

Yeah, if you want a truly accurate ANH Vader, NEITHER is really accurate out of the box. It is MY OPINION, based solely on pictures we've seen so far, that the rogue one vader would be easier to customize into an accurate ANH Vader. This is largely because many of the nitpicky details appear to be better from the start on this version and thus require less work to get to the really accurate point.

It is also because of these better details (apparently accurate paint scheme on the facemask - specifically the eyelids, more accurate armor, better belt, shin guard straps, gloves, etc.) that for me personally, out of the box this guy might actually be "close enough" that I wouldn't even bother changing anything. Yes I can spot the differences between this and any of the actual OT versions of Vader. But unlike, say, the ROTS suit which is radically different in many ways, this version only varies in some more minor areas that varied from OT suit to OT suit anyway.

Please also keep in mind I'm specifically talking about this hot toys figure, NOT necessarily the actual suit used for filming rogue one!

EDIT:
For what it's worth, here's a list of what I think would be needed to make a truly awesome ANH style Vader out of this guy. Again, based SOLEY ON THE PICTURES WEVE SEEN:

-weather helmet and chest armor
-repaint shoulder bells
-lower dome (maybe)
-put tunic over chest armor (maybe replace tunic to get rid of pleats)
-get a ANH style saber hilt
-new cod piece

And that's about it. A lot less than what people have had to do to the actual ANH figure...

Where to get cod piece and new tunic though? Wouldn't it be easier to take of the stitches on the pleats of the existing tunic?

Buy one from a different Vader figure you like better, buy a custom from someone else, or just make it yourself? I think it was wastetimecontinuum who posted a tutorial of sorts on how he made a custom cod piece. And custom tunics and capes have been around for years.

Who knows about removing the stitches until you've got it in hand or someone else actually tries it.

The problem is, the newest is always the best, especially with people on this board. I've seen it time and time again -- same with movies -- then, once the thrill of the new fades, the more accurate opinions start to bubble up.

It will take a few weeks once everyone starts getting this in hand to really know what is the better figure.

One would guess the RO Vader would be improved... but who really knows?

Knowing HT, I have a feeling one will need both Vaders to make a great ANH Vader. But of course, once HT announces the ESB Vader, no one will give a rats *** about the ANH one anymore.

ANH VAder will always be number 1 for me, *sniff*

Kidding aside, this is people in general, not just the board. But oh man, you wait and see how many ANH Vader sale posts explode all over the internet once an ESB Vader is announced by HT, it's gonna melt your face lol.

THIS. Over and over again. :lol

That's for sure. :lol

All this concern over which is more accurate down to the spirals on his little silver dial... and it will all be forgotten once the fav armor arrives.

You lost me at rots :lol

Might be heading over to HK this xmas, would prolly pick this up or the ANH version if the missus ask me what I want for my xmas present

I love how this ancient excuse for Vader's change of clothing has suddenly gone viral on this site as if its new news.

Besides, if the Empire is all about uniformity of the machine, why would Vader have different gloves and boxes, etc?

You'll never get an in-universe answer that works.... because these decisions were made over many years and were based on different choices made at different times. Believe me, you'll get another excuse in another 20 years.

As I said in the other thread...

EP John Knoll's comments really make little sense. His comments were described as "not official" so I've hinted at them here without the spoiler tag (his comments don't seem to relate to anything we will see onscreen anyway.)

Vader wears the same ultra-shiny, clean armor going into actual combat on Hoth as he does when commanding on the bridge of the Star Destroyer and going into what he surely must know is will be a major lightsaber battle with Luke on Bespin.

He wears the same ultra-shiny, clean armor going to Endor to face Luke (and he knows Rebel troops are there imminently preparing to attack) as he does to greet the Emperor and his cronies.

So Knoll's comments are non-sensical and in essence confirm the retconning of Vader in RO and a deliberate decision to not match ANH despite the two movies sharing the same timeline - and they also show that he has only a vague understanding of the differences between the Vader helmets/outfits and the reasons for those differences (for example, he states they did a new sculpt of Vader's mask between ANH and ESB.)
