Given that HT is able to produce a full line up of Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy, you would think these shouldn't be a huge deal for them to develop these core characters.

Well, let's see what "core characters" entails for Star Wars OT:
Luke
Han
Leia
Ben
Chewie
Threepio
R2

That's just the first movie heroes...

Yoda
Lando
(I won't/can't add Wicket W Warrick)

Then villains:
Vader
Boba Fett
Stormtrooper
Emperor
(I won't list Jabba because its unlikely they'll do him -- now watch everyone whine)

That would cover you for the OT I believe with CORE. And that's 13 figures. Even at 4-5 a year, that's a 2.5-3 year wait. JUST for the OT. So we now know we won't get all those characters.

Hot Toys will only be able to product what LFL/Disney let them produce. - and don't forget that they share a license with Sideshow, which may or may not have higher priority. BTW, while they produce a ton of Iron Man, there are a lot of unique mold, it's not clone-style repainting.

This is the key. What are the stipulations, if any? Will they overlap?

Believe it or not, grail for me... but I think most could do without him for true core characters. I tried to stay with the real popular ones. I even considered NOT putting Lando on. Actually, I would take him off. He goes with Tarkin.

Yes, it will be fun seeing how every thing plays out. And if we get/continue to get high-quality OT Star Wars stuff, I'll be a very happy man. But I'll be ticked if HT starts off with Episode VII.

We'll finally get to see inside Vader's closet and get a look at all his other black suits. Mark IV, Mark XVI, maybe even Mark IV that's only ever talked about in whispers.

if Disney has anything to say about it, i think it makes more sense to start with Episode 7... new villains... new troopers... the planet will be in full promotion mode this time next year and Disney will want to focus on the future. it is all about coming out of the gate strong. Hot Toys did a great job with Guardians of the Galaxy... the timing... the full reveal... perhaps a hint of things to come?

I want to say you're right, but...

HT troopers is very much in line with their Iron Man thinking. And highly likely.
