Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

If MGS 4 wasn't a clear-as-day indicator of Solid Snake being an unknowing agent of The Patriots and let alone, the main villain of the series - I don't know what is :lol.

No I mean bad guy.

He was made the puppet in all those games.

The Kyle Cooper intro of MGS2 had a subliminal message of Snake finally being his own man. Better yet, there's a speech in MGS2 DGN in which Olga reminded to Snake how frustrated the Patriots are on not being able to "control" Snake. Too bad that was retconned in MGS4.

I still remember how MGS 4 was marketed Snake's swan song; the game about an aging hero on his final mission to save the world from Liquid. The E3 trailer even touted the phrase, "Evil is powerful, but courage is Solid". Talk about false advertising :lol. The only thing that MGS 4 did was negate all of Snake's hard-fought accomplishments. And thinking back, the only reason why Snake even succeeded in the end, was because Ocelot secretly allowed him to upload Fox Alive and cripple The Patriots' AI network :slap.

Might as well call the series, Metal Gear Ocelot.

Sounds fimiliar to Mass Effect, stopping the reapers through destruction "One of Shepards choices" or through control "illusive man" and in metal gear the destruction of GD "Snakes way" or control it "Ocelots way" either way destroy or control it benifits mankind

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

Solid Snake is one of the best video game bad guys of all time.

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

There's no way there going to make BB into a bad guy in MGSV. BB is now the hero of the series along with Ocelot

Exactly. And even if Big Boss turns to the "dark side" in MGS V, it'll get written off that he was doing it for the greater good; becomming evil in order to defeat The Patriots, who were an even greater evil. That's the only way the storyline can go, unless Kojima plans to retcon the ending to MGS 4.

As for Solid Snake, he will just end up being the bastard who got in the way of Big Boss's plans - which was already explained MGS 4.

Complete and utter mishandling of the characters, if you ask me.

:exactly:

He's definitely going to be made out to be the misunderstood hero.

Yeah. And man, just think about how evil Solid Snake is :lol. The hero of the series stops Big Boss and is inadvertently responsible for plunging the world into digital slavery with nanomachines, and also the chaos that happened with war economy :yess:. KOJIMAH RULELLLZZ!!

If Snake wasn't brought in for Outer Heaven and Zanzibar, it might of negated the Patriots then and completely changed the course of history. The Outer Heaven dream would be fully realized.

I never understood how the Patriots give out orders. By MGS2 they're all AIs. Do they get texts from them?

"Commence the Tanker sinking."

Kojima just wants a lot of his plot points to just go over your head.

I don't think Kojima even knows what he's doing anymore. All of the post MGS 3 games are just ridiculous beyond belief. I keep thinking back about that article that Dylan trolled the thread with a few months ago. It wasn't far off at all, when describing the current state of the series.

It's too bad that Kojima doesn't allow questions during the signing events, or I would have asked him a few things for clarification :monkey1.

I don't know how you set the bar so high with the first three MGS games and we venture into retardville. There is too much of that Japanese humor garbage invading these games. Sure it was sprinkled into the first few games, but there is too much emphasis on it now, especially in dreaded PW. You don't even really care about the main villain's henchmen like you did with the Fox-Hound squad. It was so new and interesting to actually have emotion for all the Fox members in their dying scenes.

Don't forget this:

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

It's become way too much like an Anime for my taste. I want the serious, cold tone (no pun intended) of MGS1 again.

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

MGS 1 set the bar for the series. In terms of the anime stuff, Kojima did sprinkle a bit of Policenauts into a few cut-scenes. But, it didn't get out of hand like the more recent games.

I think I just expected a lot more from Kojima, since he is a video game developer who was heavily influenced by western movies.

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

The Policenauts scenes didn't exactly have bearing within the game itself. Otacon gave example of where Mecha tech in MGS came from so they showed the scene of that. Also, that give further clarification of what a Otaku is. At the time, I didn't know what that was yet.

Exactly. MGS 1 brought a sense of realism to mecha genre. A weapon like Metal Gear REX looked conceivable with the state of modern technology - sans the rail gun, where the technology is still being researched. That's just missing completely from the Peace Walker chapter, where the game went ***** out with nonsense, singing robots.

Advancing the tech in the 70s to the point of MGS1 and MGS2 might be the most idiotic thing to be conceived in the franchise.

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

I always wondered why Solid Snake was always after those who are aftering the Patriots "The Bigger Evil" .. Big Boss, Liquid, Solidus, Ocelot ..if Big Boss, Liquid, Solidus, Ocelots ..etc Stopped the Patriots, they'll be doing humanity a big favor
