Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

Hideo doesn't know what to do when people call his bluff. I'm buying into those
Gray Fox Body Double
videos because it's a lot more fun than watching Kojima trying to cover his butt, and doing a horrible job. Kiefer voicing two completely different characters? That's stupid. No David Hayter? That's even more outrageous. Things are omitted from trailers for a reason. Especially after GOTP, he's not going to stray away from the one primary element, that kept Snake, "Snake". I could very well be wrong, but I don't care. It's up in the air.

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

TLOU is the most over rated game in the last 10 years as far as im concerned. I really dont get why people like it. It has no story (once you find out the Ellie secret early in the game nothing progresses not even in the ending), the gameplay feels like Watered down new tomb raider and the relationship between Joel and Ellie is like a flipped around Jake & Sherry Birkin.

And i see these " its all about Joels relationship forming with Ellie replacing her as a daughter and protecting her ". Crapppp. Its just a game where you sneak around in waist high cover killing humans and the odd mutated. Such a lack of monster designs too, Clickers were lame, theres only like 4 bloaters in the game and nothing else apart from mildly crazed humans.

Not that i dislike the game or anything.

It's about humanity, not "Joel and Ellie", and it does it better than any game ever has.

Every other game's "acting" and script is pretty bad compared to TLOU. Can't think of a single game with such believability... they just feel like video games and nothing more next to TLOU.

Gameplay wise I have my issues, but I'm not going to deny the incredible production put into TLOU.

Tomb Raider feels like just a video game. And some people may prefer that. But that's all it is... it doesn't leave any impression other than it was "fun"...

No. The last of us does have story. Character growth and heart. Joel trying to get Ellie to the firefly lab? Joel finally accepting reality and saving Ellie from said fireflies? Ellie growing more ruthless and saddened by the things she'd done. Joel thinking of her as his daughter when he thought of her as dead weight in the beginning .

Jake and sherry birkin? That was nothing compared to the dynamic of Joel and Ellie. On the right you have a stupid wannabe bad boy in a leather jacket upset that his papa left him and is changed because a girl he just met showed him compassion. All to bring in the stupid tween fans and bros. Then on the left you have a father and daughter like scenario where the two grow together over time and inspite of Joel's history he let Ellie in. It's about survival in a dangerous and broken world where an innocent girl must kill and a father who lost his daughter prior must learn to love again. It doesn't feel forced like re6.

The story is understood as soon as Joel meets Ellie. But the game is about character growth between them. Joel is just a merciless killer in the beginning with little or no compassion for anyone. You find out when he meets Tommy that early on in the outbreak Joel was pretty evil after his daughter died.

Then he meets Ellie, who he see's a lot of his daughter in. But he doesn't want lower his guard so he is just dismissive towards her and he wants to drop her the first chance he gets.

And it isn't until when Ellie is almost butchered that he lets his real feelings come out. I think you're problem with the game is that it's too similar to Tomb Raider and you didn't let it in.

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

I agree with ya to some degree Kiva, The Last of Us doesn't have the best story in the world, but boy is it some of the most compelling narratives you've ever seen in a game. Like I said before, it managed to do make something out of nothing.

The problem with Tomb Raider is that it already had a winning formula with the previous trilogy but they decided to wipe the slate clean because of "poor" sales. What we got was a shameless carbon copy of Uncharted, with some set pieces are shockingly shot for shot and the humor removed.

I would never say the new Tomb Raider is a bad game (7/10) for me, but it failed miserably in getting people emotionally invested by trying way too hard.

I could tell just from the early trailers it was trying way too hard to give you some kinda emotional investment in Laura. I didn't get any of that in TLOU. It was a very very slow crawl to build a relationship between the player and the characters.

:exactly:

Quite frankly, just get the now dirt cheap Trilogy, very underrated, much smarter games, and probably those style of games won't be coming back just like the classic Resident Evils.

I'm confident MGSV's plot would be 1000x more complex and detailed than TLOU but Kojima could count himself lucky if he could pull off half of the emotional investment TLOU had.

Hasn't done anything close to that level since MGS1.

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

I personally think that's where the series (MGS) went wrong

It took all the emotional investment it had built up for all those years and abolished it

BB was v cool in MG3, now he's just annoying and it's actually a shame

Snake was cool in MGS1 regardless of him being used a puppet and was the #1 badass in MGS2 only to be made into the cry baby he is MGS4 who doesn't even want to live anymore?

Cool story Kojibro

The character mutation of Snake from MGS2-MGS4 is the weirdest choice for any character in the series.

I don't know how you went from badass Anti-Metal Gear mercenary to old man crying about being old.

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

Maybe saying abolishing isn't correct

They tried to change the values of the characters that they had already tried to cement in the first games but not to aid the original content but to also change that so it sort of became lost in itself

I think that's how a lot of older fans and fans of the original content are coming from when they say they don't like the new direction. It's not necessarily bad but in comparison to what it originally was to these people it is

It's not even close to resembling what made it what it was. It's so ******* convoluted.

I think the bandaged guy he voicing isn’t real, but Big Boss hallucinating

Have to agree with this, the stealth in the game is very intense and the combat is very balanced. I never wanted to be caught sneaking around because I knew a room full of guys would be really tough to take out.

For all its faults, I though Guns of the Patriots was the most emotional of all the games. With the flashbacks, deaths, and nostalgia factor played into it.

MGS1 crushes the rest of the series in the emotional factor. It was the only one of the games that I felt any emotion for boss death scenes.

It did a good job at that, but overall too many fan favorite characters died in MGS4 and mix the flashback sequences and voices into it. Big Boss, Eva, Ocelot, and Naomi were all a big part of the overall story.

Naomi's death was so over the top and forced and her touching the MKII and Otacon crying was cringe-worthy.

Eva jumping into the fire was dumb

Ocelot's whole persona and character was ridiculous, and at the last second the real Ocelot comes through? Please.

Big Boss's was the only one that didn't bother me.

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

It bothered me, more regurgitated tripe from koji

OH NO they finally got me with another new strain of FOXDIE to just get you at the end dad :monkey2

Even though I shouldn't technically be here

Just to note it was done well just a bad underlying idea. The whole graveyard and Boss' grave and everything it looked nice and in the moments fine

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

The whole real Ocelot thing bothered me but then it didn’t. I always felt it was a little weird and kind of a cop out to resurrect Liquid by adding the arm to Ocelot, and making its spirit to control him. I think the explanation was better for that in MGS4 but then I hated that it wasn’t actually Liquid the whole time.
