Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

I agree, the support unit of Snake Eater is too happy and go lucky to become the evil Patriots.

It makes no sense to me which leads me to believe he just wanted to shoehorn Snake Eater lore into MGS4. And most of all, lazy writing.

Yup, thats basically what ****ed up the story for me personally. Most retcons and such were forgiveable since it aided the story or didn't matter that much.
Theres soo many places the story could have gone in 4, its just ashame. Id love an MGS4 remake myself, even Kojima himself was disappointed with it.

What i did love was going back to shadow moses, and the whole biohazard-Snake plot line, so the guy still has some writing chops. Im really hoping MGSV shows he knows how to kill it (plot-wise)

I swear if the dialogue is as week and characters as cartoony as previous i will be pissed! especially now that they've kicked DvidHayter to the curb!!!

I also think that Kojima needs to take a break, and go work on some other game besides MGS to clear his mind. I always had the impression that he's trying to incorporate themes from other projects that he wanted to make, but instead, used them in MGS - which aided in creating the big mess that we have today in the storyline.

thats probably it!

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

Dude, we just had a terrorist attack in Boston!!! 3 bombs went off, multiple casualties. Look at the news..........

Sent from Shadow Moses by codec.

I was hoping this bull**** was over. God dammit.
Thankfully the casualties was low, especially being at a god-damn marathon!

I swear if this is more muslim terrorism i will be pissed. These animals having been ****ting on the name of Islam for too long, disgracing our religion!

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

You really do like to get on your high-horse, don't you? The only "futile gesture" is trying to get the last word in an argument that you initiated. Troll away, man. I've got nothing more to say to you and I'm sure that the feeling's mutual :wave

Says the guy who claims I initiate arguments, take generalizations personally and then proceeds to say he "isn't looking to start anything". This all transpires because you addressed me personally in your "observation".

Is the irony lost on you? :wink1:

Don't worry man, anyone with more than half a brain knows that not all muslims are terrorists.

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

Well thats the problem, most people don't :S

I really hope no more of this happens, apparently London is the next target

This entire ordeal sucks. NYC is most definitely going to have heightened security starting from tomorrow. It's going to be a pain going through all the luggage checks on my commute to work.

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

Saddened to hear about the bombings in Boston, I hope the terrorists behind this will be caught soon. And yes, regarding this "Muslim" terrorists, they are nothing but cowardly fanatics. There's NOTHING in the Muslim teachings that says it's okay to murder innocent people, regardless of their religion. They modified their beliefs so they can act out their will while safely hiding behind the name of God.

It's not too hard to become knowledgeable of the series when your a kid and all you have is your video games and you treat it like a religion.

I think that's why I know MGS1 the most I think :lol

True man. A lot of stuff i've found out when i was older and was of an age where i could actually mentally understand what they were trying to say

MGS1 was the reason I started reading about nuclear weapons and the military. It felt weird being like 11 years old and taking those kind of books out of a library.

Library, I'm old :lol

Not to turn this into a sensitive religious debate, but I thought Muslims followed the Koran/Quran?

“Punish the unbelievers with garments of fire, hooked iron rods, boiling water; melt their skin and bellies.”
Koran 22:19

“Do not hanker for peace with the infidels; behead them when you catch them.”
Koran 47:4

“The unbelievers are stupid; urge the Muslims to fight them.”
Koran 8:65

“Muslims must not take the infidels as friends.”
Koran 3:28

“Terrorize and behead those who believe in scriptures other than the Qur’an.”
Koran 8:12

“Muslims must muster all weapons to terrorize the infidels.”
Koran 8:60

But I've heard that these are mistranslations. I'm sure you'd know better than I :dunno

MGS came out at a time when I was really into Military Special Ops (hell, I did my 8th grade thesis on Special Operations in the Vietnam Wars - LOL). I instantly fell in love with the technical aspect of the games....SDV, Hind Ds, the use of (fictious) African mercenary conflicts.

When Snake Eater came out I had been boxing for years and was at that point getting into Judo and Jujutsu, and the whole CQC aspect of the game really made me go into nerd-overdrive.

Yeah I did like CQC a lot when it was introduced. It's basically a unbeatable martial art in the MGS universe. I know it's based on Mori's teachings but it seems like it's on a whole other level in MGS.

I just found it so weird, though. CQC (which is an equivalent to CQB) is held in such reverence in MGS (like "Hokuto no Ken" is in Fist of the North Star), and only a few people are capable of mastering it - which is very much unlike how it is in the real world, where its widely practiced :lol.

I know Mori got picked apart and criticized by other close combat instructors, especially the whole "pistol in one hand, knife in the other". I never met the guy, so I can't speak on how capable he is in person.

And don't get me started on the whole joint locks and what not that Snake performs. LOL.

CQC has long been in the military lexicon. CQC refers to hand-to-hand combat, whereas CQB is a broad term for close-range fighting, weapons, tactics and all.

MGS definitely created a big buzz about CQC, but ask anyone who has spent time practicing combat sports - boxing, wrestling, *****, kickboxing, etc - what they think of the viability of joint-locking and that type of nonsense.

Also, CQC is a broad term, not a particular system. Old-school CQC taught to the British Commandos in WW2 era was a mix of pre-war Judo/jujustu, which still contained striking, and dirty fighting.

When I think about it, there really isn't anything different with it from any other style of close range combat.

You can't really grasp from watching the fight scenes of what makes it so special.

It seems more about defense if anything, especially with the Boss. How she can immediately turn a battle from defensive to offensive in a flash.

The final battle of MGS4 was amazing, great choreography. There was a lot of kicking which wasn't seen up to that point. It just seems like a mix of a lot of different styles altogether.

Reminds me of Jeet Kune Do, and how it was developed as a method of being able meld with any other style and was built on simplicity and getting the job done. Not fighting stiff and wasting movement. JKD fights with your dominant hand forward unlike traditional arts.

I've studied a lot on Bruce Lee, he mainly was a great philosopher for the most part, but he was a combat genius.

If you want to see simplicity of a H2H system, check out "WW2 combatives". This system took only the most brutal, effective components of jujustu and preached that you should always be offensive - there was nothing "defensive" about it, it was a killing art designed for when you got caught barehanded that would provide you enough time to get to a weapon. THAT'S real close combat. Not the be-all, end-all, and certainly has it's areas that I don't agree with, but the overall mindset is the best part of it. Any combat technique or weapon is useless without the aggressive mindset.

Also, check out old school Combat Karate, also from around the WW2 timeframe, practiced by Japanese Naval Commandos. Think of Karate in combat boots, with all techniques involving stomps, elbows, punches and low kicks - a total battlefield combat system.

Sorry to go rant, just love this stuff LOL.
