I don't think those features were trivial at all. MGS games have always been about building upon or simply redefining concepts from the past titles. That's where the psyche gauge from MGS 4 came into play, because the game stressed on the theme of "Sense", rather than the long drawn out battles of MGS 3 that were more suited for a stamina gauge.

However, just simply writing-off well-known features because you think they're "unneeded" seems a bit ridiculous because there are many other people who actually enjoyed having them.

From how I've been playing so far, GZ doesn't feel as far removed from how I felt when playing PW as much as you claim it to be.

In terms of gameplay, no. And, as I've previously said, MGS GZ was built upon the portable experience of Peace Walker which I felt was a mistake, considering that it's a console title. But, in terms of overall tone of the game, in going from a fun-loving PG-13 setting to a dark tone of blood, guts and rape a few weeks after PW's ending - it seems very far removed (although, that's probably suited for another discussion).

I'M SORRY!!! :thud: (no really I apologize, now I feel like I got way too carried away....)

I really like having discussions with you, but try to trim it down a tad. Personally, I have to read research essays all day sometimes and it's a pain to do it on the forum, as well :rotfl.

Absolutely fair enough, and I can't argue against that.

Actually thanks for clarifying on this. I might have missed this (as you know, I'm fairly late to the party here on the Video Game side of SSF) but now that you mentioned it, I can understand your position on this a whole lot better. I will say that I do disagree on this (I personally enjoyed PW's controls especially when implemented in a console game such as on the HD Collection) but this does help me understand your perspective a whole lot better and I definitely won't make claims that you're wrong at all since it's a very genuine stance to have.

That's definitely for another discussion of its own (I mean I've just been talking about game mechanics this whole time). But I do want to admit, due to personal principles, I'll say right now that I actually have very little or no opinion towards it and I'll reserve judgement until I play The Phantom Pain (so I have very little to offer in terms of a proper discussion should the topic arise).

Yeah it's something that I get carried away with at times. :slap I often go into lengthy discussions with folks in other forums I frequent at, but it's usually because we tend to get really analytical on a lot of stuff that I get way too accustomed to that kind of thing (analyzing films, shows, even anime, etc.) Well that's it for me. While I might have seemed a bit confrontational (I apologize if I came across as such), I definitely enjoyed our discussion just then. :wave

The entire tone of MGS V seems to be "revenge", so I can only guess that things get a lot darker from here on out :lol.

Anyways, you're cool, ron and it's nice to have good, thought-provoking debates in here :duff. It's not something that I'm proud of, but I probably wouldn't be at my current post count, if it weren't for all my gif spamming.

Eh... do whatever suits you the most.

I barely used wall knock and I didn't even use the box in some MGS games... Yeah that's right :slap :lol the only thing I always use in every MGS games are the gun clips, I love those things. This game gives you A LOT of freedom, anything that happens is an oportunity to do something else I love it

Btw, less cutscenes in TPP https://www.gamespot.com/articles/m...avour-of-pure-game-storytelling/1100-6418805/

I hope it doesn’t interfere with the story, I love MGS cutscenes.

Are you kidding me? I wish you taught a MGS 101 course at my college :lol

Keep the discussions coming man :hi5:

Plissken's just messing with you dude. It's perfectly fine that you had a counter argument and you have well written points. So you know, we've had people who occasionally drop by and say "EPPICCC" and "Game of the Year for sure!" without contributing to anything whatsoever in the forums. A little insight (regardless of perspective) is always welcomed.

Come to think of it, that's probably why I had such a hard time getting used to the game, I couldn't name one thing on the top of my head in GZ that was building upon the old foundations except for vastly improved enemy a.i.

Which is cool and all, but like I said many, many times before- I just wished this was a new i.p, not Metal Gear. I blame Konami, not Kojima.

Honestly I think this thread has never been more intresting, now that GZ is out and TPP will launch next year the conversations here are about the future of MGS, I don't mind the long posts but I'm tired now and I don't feel like reading everything :lol everyone raise very intresting points! :lecutre (this thread will reach its prime soon)

:lol haha you are flattering me, well I helped some people with MGS in the past

I don't think the story will suffer from that, MGS3 has less cutscenes and it works, if TPP is as long as its supposed to be then there will be a fair amount of cutscenes I guess

Im very happy with the new controls. To me the biggest changes happened to the game way before GZ was in the picture.
Taking away back-to-the-wall, small enclosed spaces, cinematic camera angles, the main character. adding over the shoulder cam, super powered snake.
The last "true" Metal Gear was MGS2. But since the evolution id say this controls the best!

Reading this article saddened me quite abit. Alot less cutscenes isn't good, a big part of my enjoyment of these games is the cutscenes. Also Snake wont talk much.... Whats the point in Keifer then??

The last ''true'', or maybe I should say classic, Metal Gear was MGS4 imho, GZ was the big change. I don't know what they mean with '' Less lines for Snake'' :dunno Solid Snake and Big Boss always talk as much as they have too like a normal person, no more no less... So, wtf :lol

Yea I prefer a lot of long cutscenes. Kiefer is there to facially act more than voice act. It seems they want to go down the Uncharted route, where a lot is happening in game, instead of cutscenes, like when you find Chico and Paz.

How much has Snakes face really been in the games though? I saw Chico and Pazs acting more than BigBoss. I guess we'll have to wait and see if Keifers face acting was all that necessary.

Im all for better directed cutscenes, as MGS4 cutscenes were unbearable at times just because of how unnecessarily long they were. I hope MGSV cutscene length isnt just because f how badly editied MGS4 was. I hope there at east as long as MGS1

I thought the ending cutscenes showed a ton of Snakes face, and the battle cry at the end was pretty awesome. Even just looking at his face in shock and despair, while Kaz is going crazy shows me his performance will be great.

I like very much Ground Zeroes. I have been played main mission and 4 side missions. Main mission ending was sad. This was my first Metal Gear I played and also first stealth game. Im so getting Phantom Pain when it comes. Soldiers AI is great.

Then you should definitely play the older games too.

Most definitely. I can never imagine myself jumping straight into a long-running video game series, let alone a series that has a long-spanning continuity like Metal Gear (on its 5th numerical title at that!) o_O

Same here, my excitement for The Phantom Pain is through the roof!

You can only really do that with Final Fantasy, since none are really linked.
