Keep up the posts man, they actually make for a good read. You’ve already reminded me about a lot of stuff I forgot in PW.

Haha thanks! Well I'll be sure to pitch in if something catches my eye again. :wave

For now, I'll be taking my leave.

The only reason Big Boss ever became 'Snake' is because they needed to make the MGS3 Big Boss as similar to Solid Snake as possible to stop more fan outcry after MGS2

Big Boss, was never ever known as Snake until MGS3, as has been known as that even since, when he isn't he's Big Boss

:lecture

This is absolutely correct. The only way to appease the fans was to mold Big Boss after Solid Snake, after the **** hit the fan in MGS 2 with Raiden taking over as the main character.

The codename "Snake" should have been dropped after MGS 3 (or it shouldn't have ever been used at all for that matter).

It makes sense, honestly. Though you're right, the codename should have been dropped. Kojima probably could have gone about some of Big Boss's story a lot differently for the better too.

I'd have to say, that Big Boss's story was largely mishandled for the most part. It's one thing that he's always referred to as "Snake", but his name is also Jack - just like Raiden's :lol. It's like his entire concept was structured upon copying the elements of characters who came before him, prior to MGS 3.

He has Snake's personality down to a t - even to the extent that he's even using Snake's catch-phrases like, "kept you waiting, huh?". His military career was also spent fighting Metal Gears - just like Snake's. And I think his name being Jack is used an implication to his naivete. After all, Big Boss often presents himself as a confused odd-ball, similar to how Raiden was portrayed in MGS 2.

On that note, as much as I **** on the direction for MGS GZ, I'm actually looking forward to seeing how much Big Boss has actually changed. It's like for the first time ever, he's getting a game where is personality is going to be distinct from Solid Snake's.

In any case, I had the time to read back at some of the latest comments in this thread. It's very easy to dismiss the non-fans as confusing Snake and Big Boss. But, it's not a exactly good marketing strategy when people can't tell the characters apart. The sheer weirdness of it, might actually turn some people off of this series.

Yeah, totally true. The only part of Big Boss being similar to Snake that makes actual sense is their appearance; being that Solid is a clone (although I will concede that I agree that Big Boss is a clone himself now :lol ) it makes sense, though it would be nice if Kojima would made them look more different. Solid Snake looks different enough in MGS1 with his lack of facial hair for instance but you can still see some similarities. Solidus also resembles the elderly Big Boss in MGS4 as well. idk about Liquid and why he looks so much different :dunno

Snake and Boss's personalities are quite similar, yeah. I thought, and hoped really, that Boss would have been slightly darker and more serious when I first played through MGS 3 but that doesn't seem to be the case. I don't like how Boss is confused just like Raiden, even if it is not as bad to the point where I considered Raiden to be a total nerd for most of MGS2. Though in Big Boss's case, I feel due to the defection of The Boss and most of MGS 3's events, his reaction is fairly understandable. PW...can we all just agree that this is the series's equivalent of a bad hangover? I still don't like this aspect of him though, I won't lie.

Boss's story structure is handled poorly, no doubting it. Some concepts are good ideas, but badly handled; Kojima probably wanted some parallels for symbolism and meaning, but it's not just parallel, it's exactly the same. I do want to see Big Boss finally become the dark and much more serious character that I believed him to be compared to Solid Snake, who made some jokes and had amusing Easter eggs in the games (the codec call with Meryl in MGS 1, wanting to date Emma, so on) where-as none of this ever happened with Big Boss. Hell, Solid Snake even had happy endings in his games compared to Big boss's somber endings.

To further cement Kojima Productions reputation as the forefront of cutting edge of videogame development, photo realism, and epic tale or realistic, psychologically taxing warfare, the actress playing Quiet will make more appearances in upcoming Kojima Nation episodes. All you doubters beware, we have Stephanie!
