She's obviously being used as eye candy to help promote the game, in a similar way that Yumi Kikuchi was helping to promote MGS 4. Definitely not as hot as Yumi, though.
I'd have to say, that Big Boss's story was largely mishandled for the most part. It's one thing that he's always referred to as "Snake", but his name is also Jack - just like Raiden's . It's like his entire concept was structured upon copying the elements of characters who came before him, prior to MGS 3.
He has Snake's personality down to a t - even to the extent that he's even using Snake's catch-phrases like, "kept you waiting, huh?". His military career was also spent fighting Metal Gears - just like Snake's. And I think his name being Jack is used an implication to his naivete. After all, Big Boss often presents himself as a confused odd-ball, similar to how Raiden was portrayed in MGS 2.
On that note, as much as I **** on the direction for MGS GZ, I'm actually looking forward to seeing how much Big Boss has actually changed. It's like for the first time ever, he's getting a game where is personality is going to be distinct from Solid Snake's.
In any case, I had the time to read back at some of the latest comments in this thread. It's very easy to dismiss the non-fans as confusing Snake and Big Boss. But, it's not a exactly good marketing strategy when people can't tell the characters apart. The sheer weirdness of it, might actually turn some people off of this series.
That "Kept you waiting, huh" really bugged me, and it still does. That's Solid Snake's line! What I liked about Peace Walker's story, they could have just been told in a quick recap before MGSV, because I dislike how the character was handled as well. I couldn't really see it as the intended MGSV. It was more of a kooky "What if?" just to get another game. It's great for those quick gameplay bursts, so I can't complain, since I played so much. I would have argued that the similarities were a coincidence between him and Raiden, but pointing that out about his concept being structured upon copying other characters, bugs me now. Previously, I thought his John Doe name was because he completely gave up his identity to the battlefield, and it might not have even been his real name. There was also the connection with the JD artificial intelligence core. Although Jack is a nickname for John, and wouldn't make sense to have a nickname for a code name, I thought it might have been a joke, and then it stuck. I know there's a bunch of info out there online dealing with his name and the "Jack T. Miles" thing.
The people that confuse them though, do you think they would play the games for the story to begin with, otherwise I would think you'd want to start from the beginning. However explaining it is difficult because I end up calling him Big Boss, even though he wasn't Big Boss at that point, and when I try to use Jack, it gets confused with Raiden.
I'm glad you're looking for to MGSV, and I really hope they do a fantastic job with his character development.
Erm, Boss, I don't think you're up to speed with what's going on in MGSV. Well, David is.. uhh.. say hello to Kiefer, for me Boss!
Without a doubt, she played the most powerful female role in gaming.
Probably more flashbacks of her previous exploits. One thing I liked about Peace Walker was that they brought back the Boss in the tapes which was pretty deep.
What I like about her character is she's tough, and really just as intimidating as any male character in gaming and it doesn't come off as forced. I hate how most developers are creating female leads today just to prove a point, and then have to discuss it in every interview.

Not so Big Boss, more average size.
