Game trailers gave it a 9.5.

They said the story and twist is ambiguous and a trip, but leaves big threads unfinished. That last part is a problem for me

Edit: looks like they removed it lolol

Gamespot also gave it a 10! I mostly agree with their reviews so this is great to hear.

Every single review agree on this as the most negative issue: The Pacing

The going theme, is that the gameplay is excellent, but the story leaves much to be desired. Hopefully, whatever plotline twist the game has, will be memorable.

What has me concered, is that it seems like the game has a great set-up. But, then you won't hear much about the plot until 45 to 60 hours when it's nearing the end. Also, IGN said that Big Boss hardly has any dialog, too...

I might end up enjoying this purely for the gameplay factor as I did with PW.

Was it as funny as it sounds?

A little. If you enjoying seeing someone implode online :lol.

I'm so happy! I'm not a person that just goes by numbers because they don't mean anything without the review, but my opinions line up with Gamespot, so it works for me. Did Kevin VanOrd review it? He and the Giant Bomb guys (except Brad) were my go to guys for games. I believe he gave Witcher a 10, but it just didn't look like it was for me. Metal Gear Solid on the otherhand...is for me!

A futanari tried to take revenge in those threads on the very day he was "banned". Chris cleaned it up... but, then he/she has returned with another fake account, and has since been keeping quiet.
This is completely, 100% accurate, I witnessed it, so did Pliss, cqc, and some other people too :lecture
I might end up enjoying this purely for the gameplay factor as I did with PW.
That's really the only thing that kept me going in PW at times, since besides story, there was nothing too wrong with its gameplay besides oddities like not being able to crawl. I can't remember what had me going in MGS 4 at times, besides a few gameplay moments at times.
Was it as funny as it sounds?
It kinda is :lol thinking back, I think you and I made jokes about it...did we? That may have been something else

That wasn't the only incident as well, I think there was something about Gray Fox and the credits sequence long ago. Not sure

To be honest, my opinion is the same. Kojima has never been a masterful writer, and most of the poetic nuances of his writing get completely lost in translation due to the fickleness of translating Japanese. In this regard, I can live with all the prequel's crazy tech since most of the time, it's the good balance of gameplay and story I tend to look at rather than the trivial details of how everything is meant to fit together aesthetically. It's why I find that MGS4 hasn't aged well for me since the overall game design felt really narrow in scope, especially compared to how it was initially hyped up.

Funny thing is, I actually don't mind the design of the new Metal Gear (it looks insanely awesome in a Metal Gear Rising sort of way), rather I just wish that Kojima would drop the pretense of trying to go for a "serious" game and then go back on it by trying pull off some crazy stuff.

I didn't look at the spoiler, but yes! Although, I still really like MGS4! MGS3 is my all time favorite game, but I've only played it 7 times. MGS4, I've played around 35 times! I missed seeing your posts!

A 12 Angry Man style Metal gear movie revolving around the ideals of the Patriots would be awesome, I'd even settle for a book about that.

Same here regarding the tech, at the end of the day I realize this is just a game, those minor inconsistencies don't bother me at all, if this were a movie then that would probably bother me. I'm not one to care much about continuity, as long as each game is made as best it can be made, which is something Kojima tries to do, I mean, the FoX-Men movies are my favorite superhero movies out there, and the continuity in those films are pretty much nonexistent at this point :lol

The Quiet design never bothered me, it's amazing how many white knights there are on the internet these days, more men were upset about her look than women were :lol and like you said, the Metal Gear series has tons of it throughout the series. As far as I'm concerned, Rockstar Games and Kojipro/Konami are/were the last of the devs that actually make they games they want without catering to the feminists out there.

I would love to read any Metal Gear book! And yes, I'm just happy that every entry in the franchise has been good to amazing!

There's just a lot of sad people in the world, but it's unfortunate they're perpetuating it by to drenching themselves in negativity every second. The good people I know help people because they're compassionate people; they're not motivated by a narcissistic need for fan-fare. I worry most about the children that are going to grow up with it, since they're being forced by schools to be so connected in this politically correct cyber world (which was something that I really liked MGS2 and MGS4 touching upon). I didn't really even think much of Quiet, and I don't objectify women. I'm actually kind of scrupulous, so I might be looking at the floor on some scenes. :lol

I disagree here a bit, I don't think story is affected by gameplay, gameplay is another tool and can be used to tell a story as well, games are considered low-brow because those who are leaders of opinion on the matter simply don't know about games, like Roger Ebert, ****er did a lot of damage to the reputation of videogames by speaking out of his ass, like film critics often do.

I didn't mind what Ebert said at all, and while I disagree with him on plenty of things, I liked him. I just always thought of art as something to be observed, and I felt like the interaction of gameplay took away from that. It doesn't change how much I was moved from scenes like when I was protecting Eva, and when I had to pull the trigger on the Boss. Either way, I respect your opinion!

Gametrailers review:

I gotta admit, if this review isn't based on initial hype (MGS4 received the same score from GT) and more on the actual quality of the narrative and gameplay then we're in for a treat.

I'm genuinely ecstatic if the game forgoes it's absurd canon in favor of transcending or metaphysical themes, something only MGS2 and 3 did really well. Like I said many times before, fans are caught up connecting the dots, which in turn restricts whatever creativity a writer could have since he has to adhere to canon. If this goes above and beyond teh call of connecting the dots, I'm one happy camper.

Still, I'm cautious as it might sound too good to be true, and the repetitious environment pointed out in the review is a bit concerning.
