It's pretty amazing all the great reviews this is getting and MGO3 isn't even even finished yet.

BB with that Bandana looks bad ass.

95 on metacritic, wow.

I like Greg Miller.

I really like the steelbook we get from shopto.net

I've been trying to join shopto but my cards refuse to authenticate. What the hell?

I originally ordered from amazon France because they were the only place with a steelbook at the time

I am definitely excited to play the game as I am sure the game play is going to be amazing/innovative. However I am really conflicted, I feel as if part of the soul of Metal Gear Solid is gone. The humor and long cut-scenes (skippable) have been greatly diminished, no Codec conversations, No David Hayter (you hired an A-List Hollywood Actor only to have him deliver less lines than previous games. I am okay with change as its a necessary part of life/progression for anything really but something just feels empty on this one. On the other hand I am truly excited to finally see Big Boss's descent into Villainy.

I've never seen a title like this from a major game critic site:

I wonder when Hot Toys is going to get on this hype.

Awesome video! Thanks for posting that.

It's crazy how much hype this game had to live up too and it seems to be exceeding that so far.

Yeah, I'm surprised. Big Boss is my second favorite fictional character so as long as the game got okay reviews, I was going to buy it, but I can't say I'm disappointed to hear it's so good! I was actually worried about intimate character moments being sacrificed for the open-world, but then I remembered Red Dead Redemption, which may have had the best story-telling in a game I played. I haven't played anything else by Rockstar, but I heard a lot of there other stuff is also really good. I loved L.A. Noire, but I thought I heard that Rockstar was in an assisting role for its production, so I don't know if that counts.

Yea, Red Dead was definitely in my top 3 games last gen, along with Uncharted 2 and Metal Gear Solid 4.

Based on all the reviews I've been reading, the story has been a lot of comparisons to MGS2 and the structure, storytelling, and atmosphere has been compared to Red Dead, so I'm pretty damn excited :lol

Which system are you getting this for Bane?

Uncharted 2 was the other game I was going to mention. It's a different type of game, so I can't say one's better. Although, if we were to deconstruct Drake's character, he's a kind of nuts—cracking jokes while killing thousands of people! Still love him though. I haven't played it in many years, but the "hand puppet" cell scene cracks me up just thinking about it right now.

That sounds great. After playing Ground Zeroes, and knowing what you said, it's probably going to be my favorite game of all time. I don't know how you felt about the news regarding the lack of dialogue, but that was something I was happy about. I'm really interested to learn how they'll use the facial acting!

PS4! MGSV will be the first game I'm buying for it! How about you?

I share your sentiments, especially about David Hayter. I think TPP will be a good game, but from the reviews, it seems to bear very little semblance to the other games in the series. It's interesting to note, that Kojima was actually developing this as an IP called Project Ogre, before he made it into another MGS game. So, that may account for why it's so different in its execution.

What has me concerned the most, is the limited voice work and sparse cinematic cut-scenes that were mentioned in the reviews. I love gameplay, but MGS has always been a story-based experience, with enormous dialogues and set-pieces to go along with them. The lack of codec conversations is also pretty jarring, as they were some of the most fun things in MGS 1 to 4.

They won't, the hype will be long gone when they give a ****

No doubt, it'll be just like what they did for Arkham City. After the game has been succeeded by other triple-A titles, Hot Toys will eventually do a reveal. Then again, they don't really give a damn about the VGM line, once there are Marvel figures to regurgitate.

I think Uncharted 2 is the most perfect game Naughty Dawg has made so far. I really liked Last of Us but I thought some of the gameplay clashed with the grounded, serious, realistic tone of that world, where in UC2, all the crazy jokes and mind blowing action set pieces all fit within the world Naughty Dawg created. Nathan Drake is basically the gaming Indiana Jones.

Regarding the dialogue in MGSV, I'm with you, I prefer a lot less exposition that the previous games had, I think the lack of dialogue is most from Big Boss mostly, which I like. Kojima is doing what George Miller has done with Mad Max, building the story around Big Boss using other characters. I also like that Big Boss won't be as chatty as he was in previous games, it fits the character better in my opinion. Overall I like that Kojima is taking a more subtle approach with this game.

That's not true though, a recurring theme in reviews is that it's very MGS and that it enriches MGS w/o sacrificing what makes it MGS.

It's interesting to note, that Kojima was actually developing this as an IP called Project Ogre, before he made it into another MGS.
This again :lol it was very clear PO was MGSV from the get go.

Those have to be the 2 memes I hate the most of this game's development.

That's exactly what I thought when I watched the GI review, how they said the left the player to make the most out of the story and connect the dots, which is actually a nice change of pace from the over exposition in previous games and it's already a winner in that regard.

I think those reviews who said MGSV has "little story to tell" are of the same mindset of those who said Fury Road was light on the story too.

Too bad it's the last one.

Or good it's the last one, won't know until I play it but I can let myself feel optimistic now.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain & Ground Zeroes

My only real worry is the pacing and possibly some of the side ops being tedious.

I'm pretty sure that is why TPP is so different, I've seen that happen with some games. It may be something else entirely, and then get turned into a familiar game. You also are right about the conversations...not sure myself though, though I wonder if maybe it'll be done differently this time.

Pretty much. I'm not even surprised HT Batman came out after Arkham Knight. I mean, it's Batman who will always stand the test of time, and Arkham City probably will get a remaster with Asylum but...come on HT, that's just silly.

Also all of you raving about Uncharted, do yourself a favor. Check out the older games in Naughty Dog's collection. Jak, and Crash :lecture See where they got their humble beginnings.

I agree with you 100%. That was my problem with the Last of Us as well, which is why I didn't think of it as some new benchmark in gaming. To each their own, of course. However, I think Uncharted 2 deserves that kind of praise.

Yes, I also think it suites Big Boss much better. Seeing Fury Road this summer blew me away, so I definitely don't mind taking any influence from George Miller. I have to see if my library has "Beyond the Thunderdome", because I have never seen that one before.
