Just finished it and watched episode 51 on the Blu Ray...

Wow, I truly hated the ending... TRULY... it's "A Hideo Kojima Game" that's for sure. The hack cliche twist that I suspected from the very beginning... ugh I can't believe I devoted so much time into a game to get such ****** writing.

Kojima pulled a George Lucas, and I hope he stays the **** away from any future game of the series. Four years, for this pile of ****.

Precisely, I ****ing knew this was the case. While I don't necessarily agree that Kojima is a bad writer as I enjoyed and even loved the plot and story of the first 4 games I wholeheartedly agree that this game was ****te writing if not Kojimas worst. It feels like such a disrespectful slap in the face. Everything you do in the game doesn't truly matter. What a cop out, so sad.

I love Sahelanthropus. At first the upright stance was a bit WTF. But im a sucker for its aesthetic and attacks. Not to mention when its in tank mode its essentially Rex. And i love its look in that mode possibly as much, if not more than Rex. I can suspend my disbelief at the technology of it in that timeline. Its a Metal Gear game. In MGS3 the troops were flying around on hover platforms.

The Metal Gear itself is next to meaningless in the game though. But given how the trend of " a weapon to surpass metal gear ! " has been around in many forms for years now i can live with it. Patriots, the exo suits, and now words that kill.

I have to finish it before I can judge it, but I can roll with it too. I might end up loving it. I deleted my post because I don't want to add to the negativity since I love the game so far. I have a different option then a lot of people on this thread, so I'm not worried that I'm going to hate stuff yet.

But was based on a scrapped project.

For two straight games, he's gone out of his way to embellish the plot even more with such nonsensical characters like Skull Face... ruined Big Boss, ruined Ocelot... and even ruined
Liquid Snake
It also completely undermines Metal Gear 1... I still can't wrap my mind around why Kojima would think fans wouldn't want to
play as Big Boss, and just some random soldier that gets plastic surgery... which was completely ridiculous.

It's such a bad soap opera.

It's all that's needed anyway... we didn't need to go the Star Wars route with knowing more about Big Boss's past... if anything I feel Peace Walker and Phantom Pain only hurt the series. I'm pretty surprised that TPP is getting bashed around the web, considering it's full of "A Hideo Kojima Game" dudebros. They all act the same way when you trash Kojima...

"Oh you just didn't get the game" or "It's too deep for you"... how about it's ****ing embrassing for MGS? This was a Call of Duty level story... I could almost take this MGS Diet story if it weren't for that ending. It was such a tremendous slap in the face.

We still have Raiden, Otacon and Sunny in the future timeline so theres still hope for " new " stories rather than introducing new twists in to a timeline we already had story for.

Platinum Games should fully take over the franchise, leave the past in the past if it's not going to be done right. I've come to terms were never getting another good Solid Snake game ever again, just like Big Boss :lol

The worst thing is, Solid Snake actually had only two 3D games, unless you want to count The Twin Snakes. MGS 2 was solely Raiden, with a bit of Solid Snake at the start. Big Boss has had MGS 3, PO, PW, V, and if you want to count GZ, that would make 5. So it's such a shame that he has so little to leave behind...

How does this undermine MGS1? And how did ruin those 3 character?

I said METAL GEAR 1

That Snake didn't face Big Boss in Outer Heaven, and Big Boss was turned into this cunning strategist all of a sudden? What the hell is the point of making a Phantom? Ocelot has a completely different personality from MGS1/2/3/4 where it was relatively the same compared to the Bakercelot. Liquid's stupid throwback lines were extremely cringe worthy, and he didn't need to be in this game... same thing with Mantis and the bastardization of his powers... don't even get me started with Volgin :pow

Retard Rex served no purpose at all, just a stupid standup gimmick and doesn't offer anything further.

Big Boss turning into what he hated most, a manipulator was done very well to me. Snake blowing Big Boss up to only return in MG2 is better? i personally don’t think so. The phantom fits with the overall theme of the game, and brings everything in this story full circle.

Ocelot should have a different personality in this game since almost every time we’ve seen him he’s been a quadruple agent, this is the closest we’ve come to seeing who Ocelot really is when he’s not acting.

This game shows the origin of Mantis’ and Liquid’s relationship, the only time he was shown truly overpowered was in the cut episode 51, even still he’s not really doing anything, the Metal Gear is.

It’s all subjective, but I really didn’t have a problem with anything you listed, I have more of a problem how the story was presented, mostly through cassettes and limited cutscenes, and the boss battles were as generic as Metal Gear Solid 2.

Who actually owns the fox engine?

I’m not sure, but I believe its Konami, I’m sure they funded the whole thing.

Outside of Retard Rex and Quiet, there's no real boss fights... at least MGS2 has the same boss battle identity that MGS1, MGS3 and MGS4 had. There's not even a final battle in this. I really don't know how anyone can defend this, it didn't even remotely resemble the series whatsoever... it's like a new dev team came in after the Hospital section. Kojima is the M. Night Shyamalan of gaming, he needs to stick himself in all this games now... and has to have stupid twists at the end of every game just for the sake of it.

I think it has a similar problem the star war prequels had, which is not wanting to make the tech and everyone look ****** regardless of consistency simply because it would make sense with the time period. Like it was perfectly handled in MGS3 and went off the deep end after PO.

Also, not really sure how this ruins MG1. Venom is essentially a carbon copy of BB (cause 'hypnosis'((it's MGS I'll let it slide))) so there's really no big deal.

I really need to know what Boss Battles in MGS2 were truly innovative? Most of them consisted of just aim and shoot while they run around the map. MGS1 and 3 have the best boss battles in the series hands down, and MGS4 is mixed, some great boss battles and some generic ones.

The Skulls fight almost felt like 4 Vamps from MGS2, and the Eli fight while being very easy, at least kept the tradition of one CQC fight.

I understand the tech being ridiculous for the time period, but in this case I give it a pass because most of the time it enhances the gameplay. MGS3 has stealth camo which we don’t even get to use in MGS4, thats pretty ridiculous :lol

Quite a few of buzzwords being thrown around.

MGS2 boss battles (save for a couple) aren't anything to brag about (MGS3 and 4 are far better at that), or in general for that matter, having said that, Quiet's "boss battle" was very weak, although I hesitate to call it that.

Here it was said how ****** the launch trailer was... That wasn't the case, then it was said what a ****** pacing and how ****** the tapes were, that wasn't the case, then how utterly terrible the soundtrack is, ditto, it seems this thread is becoming reactionary/contrarian to the facebook hive mind, everything is the worst evah because of buzzwords, I expected this to happen regardless of how the game turned out, so I will doubt the criticism until I see it for myself, but I honestly don't see the story being any worse than MGS2, but at this rate I will finish it in like a month since I can only play like 2 hours a day.

About the tech, there aren't really any anachronisms.

IIRC there was Stealth camo in 4. You need to beat the game or something.

I mean we have the insane iDroid mixed with cassette tapes. It's a little baffling. Wish it was more like 3 in that regard.
