Insanely pumped for Phantom Pain. Just watched the first mission's gameplay again, love it.

I think Ground Zeroes should have ended what we saw of 1975, but since we didnt see the scrambling around in the hospital and announcing he's in a coma that means Phantom Pain will start in 1975.

Yea, there was a lot in the trailers that I thought would make it in GZ, I'm thinking TPP might have a few flashbacks showing us what happened after Big Boss fell into a coma.

A good review here, even though he sort of rambles his thoughts. The price should be reflective of the main part of the game, regardless if you play the side-missions or not.

Exactly. If developers would start charging for the side missions and other Easter eggs or whatnot, GTA would cost $200.

Konami have probably dug themselves a hole with casting a bigger name, cant see Kiefer coming back for smaller games like the likes of Portable Ops, Peace Walker, Twin Snakes, and so on, and even if he would, smaller games like that wont have the budget for big actors.

David Hayter would probably have done a days work for free if it meant getting the game out, hell he gave some of his pay to other voice actors in Twin Snakes.

If you want to look at it like that, then games like Metal Gear Rising should be no more than 40 dollars. It's a linear experience that can be beaten in 4-5 hours. If this becomes a new trend in the industry I personally wouldn't care, anyone can just wait and buy GZ by the time TPP comes out for 5 bucks.

This kind of makes me think he plans on ending series with this game. Otherwise he should have stuck with Hayter.

Yeah you're right, but Hideo might never do smaller games again either.TPP could be the last we'll see with Big Boss.

By the way, I noticed that Paz has a striking resemblance to Bill :rotfl

David Hayter was so committed to this series, and I just can't see Kiefer following suit in the same way for future releases. It's also interesting, that in none of Kiefer's interviews (at least the ones that I can recall), has he ever even mentioned "Metal Gear Solid" by name.

Here's a question for all

Is GZ the best, and most happy you've been from playing a new MGS game on it's release? Like your first impressions of the game.

How would you rate it? along with the others

My first impressions when I played the MGS games were:
MGS1: 10/10
MGS2: 7/10
MGS3: 10/10
MPO: 9/10
MGS4: 10/10
MGS:pW: 9/10
MGS: GZ: 5/10

However, as times go by and I've gotten to analyze the games and how well they incorporate their themes with the effort that went into. here are my final score:
MGS1: 10/10
MGS2: 10/10
MGS3: 9.5/10
MPO: 8/10
MGS4: 8/10
MGS:pW 8/10
MGS:GZ: 7/10.

I do get the distinct feeling that this will be a one-off for Keifer. Hideo has also hinted that this will be the last BigBoss game as it closes the gap between Snake and BigBoss timelines.
Hideo did say hes not finished with Solid Snake yet too:)yess:). While he said he would like to do a new MGS1 he also mentioned he would change it to fit the new canon. But it should be a reboot imo, but then again it would probably recast Snakes actor :(
If he had to be recast what would you guys go with? Id say Kurt Russel but hes too old for MGS1 so id say Karl Urban

Btw I completed 4 more side missions, I still find myself having a hard time getting used to the gameplay mechanics and enemy a.i. The lack of a tutorial is the biggest flaw of all- I remember practicing my moves the first time I was playing and BAM a spotlight shone on me! Which one is roll? Why crouch is X? How do get into first person view? Why are there only 6 tranq bullets and how do I get more? Why is headshots a pain to execute?

While I've certainly have gotten better, I can easily see how this would frustrate new players. This is by far the hardest leaning curve I've ever came across in a game, more so than Splinter Cell.

On the plus side, it's obvious that the wealth of options and fidelity given to you as a player is incredible.

Christian Bale works for me.

I don’t think you gave your opinion on the voice acting Ryan, I’m interested to hear your thoughts on it.

Kaz explains a few things in the beginning but yeah no good tutorial.Me personally just spent a minute with the manual to understand the basics, then goofing around in the beginning before i started.
A tutorial is something i didn't feel like i needed with this game because there isn't a whole lot to learn when you check out the basics before you start.

I thought the controls came pretty naturally, everything was where I assumed it would be, apart from first person view on weapons, I was too used to the R1 from MGS2/TS/MGS3 and then I expected it to be L1+Triangle like MGS4.

The controls are intuitive and easy to use than they've ever have been in the series, so i don't know what your talking about Ryan. (although i prefer classic style)
I kinda messed with it and got it by the time i finished the story mission. The only thing i didn't fully understand was the CQC which i figured out by my last side-op

I assume a traditional MetalGear tutorial will appear in the PhantomPain. like all MetalGear games it waits till after the prologue no?

Its funny you mention, cuz i loved PeaceWalker as i played it. And even the story, but i like it alot less as soon as i was done with it.
MGS1/2: 10/10 then and now
MGS3: 8/10
MGS4: i still hate and love it with a passion!

Easy, yes? Intuitive? No. For example, I kept using L2 to sprint like TLOU but ended up calling Miller instead. I also grabbed a guy using R1 for the first time and he just died or passed passed out and I couldn't tell because the starts above his head are gone now. How the heck was I supposed to know that? :lol

The game also implemented the magnus effect, which is initially VERY annoying, how the flying flip was I supposed to know that, considering previous MGS games and 99% of other games don't have this? Did Miller called me to kept me informed of the magnus effect? NO.

Of course the controls and fidelity are the absolute best in the series, and there's a wealth of physical actions to perform. I'm just saying that a brief tutorial like what we got in Metal Gear Rising would have GREATLY improved my initial enjoyment of the game.

I still haven't taken full advantage of CQC.Only if they spot me in the last second when i try to sneak up on them.Love the Body throws, hard and brutal like it always was.
