I have always been a statue collector but this really does tempt me due to the fact it does not have any doll like qualities and have been wanting to have a hot toys piece to see what the attraction is and there have been no iron monger offerings from sideshow. Im a huge fan of the first iron man film and this is big enough to display as a stand alone piece as well.... oh geesh i think i pretty much got myself convinced :gah:

You should really checkout the other Hot Toys Iron man figures, as they don't have any "doll-like" qualities either. Infact, they look better than any current ironman statue to date IMO.

To each his own but I just can't do statues. Part of the fun of 1/6 is moving the figure, changing positions, different weapons, etc. The slightest move of the head can give the figure a different expression. Not so w/ statues.

But I don't see Monger showing up on gohastings for $350 months after release. I think this really is a snooze you loose item. Sold out at release I'll bet.

Yeah I have a total of two statues. One is a DK:R statue I got for almost free and the other is the Alien Pile statue which I got at a good discount and is one of maybe two or three statues I love. One of the others is the Sideshow Wolverine vs Sabertooth statue which sucks because I'll never own it.

The Sideshow Mark VI maquette has an excellent pose and really spot on proportions and accuracy. The problem is the sculpt is kind of lumpy and soft. I suspect the sculpt being less than perfect is because it's hand sculpted not computer sculpted like the HT Iron Mans. The paint also leaves a lot of be desired both in quality of finish (the gold in particular is terrible) and cleanliness of application (I have seen a fair number of statues with slop/smudges/etc). It's also 1/4 scale which means all of those things stand out all the more, it's not like smaller scale items which can hide a lot of screwups to the naked eye due to their scale.

And those saying the Sideshow Iron Monger maquette would be about the same price as the Hot Toys? Sideshow's Mark VI was $489.99 and their War Machine was $549.99. If they did an Iron Monger in that same scale it would be at least $1k. The Amp Suit is only 21" tall and it's over $1k. A 1/4 scale War Machine would be around 25-27" tall.

Can't agree with you at all on the Mark VI. Thing is totally freaking badass in person. Love mine. :rock

It's all a matter of what you want. It's a ton of money for a toys/collectible. Everyone who collects HT Marvel figures wants Monger. It just becomes a matter of affordability. I'll probably get one. Especially since flex pay is available. I value him at 2 regular 12". And thats @ what his price is. Plus, I know if I don't get him now, I'll regret it. And a year from now, be crying because I'll have to pay $800-$1000 for him.

And I would never criticize SS or HT for pricing on anything. We ALL have the choice to not buy from them.

For those that bought 2, you guys are rich crazy *******s! Lol! I can't see myself spending nearly a grand for 2 of these that may/may not weigh 11lbs just to sell off for a bit more money later on.

if you invested $400 in the stock market and got back $500, that's a 25% return on your investment.

If you bought this piece for $400 and sold it for $600, that's a 50% return.

you're doing great in the market if you're getting back 10%. A more realistic number is 5%.

BBTS lists this as a 11lbs package. Is this accurate? For plastic and LEDs?

If a regular figure is around 3.5lbs, then yeh, I can easily see this monster coming in at 11lbs. This figure is half as high again as a regular figure and almost twice as wide. I think the weight is reassuring - I thought WM would've felt nicer in hand if it'd had a bit more weight to it. This is a figure you want to be heavy :)

except that there are a lot more variables that go into flipping something this big that is also a collectible. The stock market does it's own thing, you don't really need to lift a finger and you could win out.

I think anything IM is especially flippable owing the number of completists out there. Yes it's a big MSRP item, but for years to come there'll be folks wanting to pick this up I'd say.

The more and more I see the pics, the more and more I really want to hit pre-order. but I just have to wait and see if its something I can afford by the time the flexpay payments start being pulled.
This thing is insanely awesome.

Spiderman was 6 and a half pounds - admittedly with a hunk of polystone thrown in there. IM will be a lot more than 7lbs methinks. If it's not, something's wrong.

From SSC site,

Product Weight:7.00 lbs (3.18 kg)*
Est. Shipping Weight:6.00 lbs (2.72 kg)*

~I'm a bit confused on the shipping weight?

Well I guess they'd know, but I'm stubbornly siding towards the BBTS specs. And not just because the math on the product vs shipping weight seems a bit odd :lol
