Re: NECA: 1/4 The Avengers
That's it for the pics for now. I will put him in a pose then take another couple of pics later.
REVIEW:
Likeness = 8.5 of 10;
I made a comment before that the likeness in his helmeted form is just as well done than Hot Toys Captain America The Avengers one. Now that I have him in hand, I will hold to that statement. The likeness is darn good with the baby blue eyes and the overall shape of his face and nose. Very good job! Its not perfect (and what the hell is), but it is a pretty faithful rendition to Chris Evans in the movie.
Paint App = 8.5 of 10;
I took a couple pics to show you all some of the little sloppiness on some of the red stripes in the abdomen area and also in the blue helmet where the helmet and face meet. Mine also came with a pretty gritty black mark underneath his arm (near the joint) that might be able to come off with an eraser. Mine also came with a small light blue streak on the white part of his inner bicep on the left arm (not noticeable from regular viewing distance and at most angles). Outside of that, the rest of the figure is painted extremely well. I know some might wish the blue on the uniform was a little darker blue similar to the Hot Toys, and in truth, I can understand that. With that being said, the paint up is still very well done. The best part of the figure is the paint on the shoes and gloves (see pics) that show the dirt and slight weathering on them. Very well done. Also, the shield is done perfectly darn near. If there are any paint issues, I surely could not tell. The silver star on his chest is really vibrant and painted neatly. The silver on his zippers along the front part of his legs and on his gloves, belt, and boots are done excellently as well!
Articulation = 7.5 of 10
Ok this is kind of tricky, because on one hand, there is lots of articulation, but on the other hand, the articulation in the waist and chest area are very limited. Granted, I haven't exerted a lot of force on the waist and it might be able to twist more than what I got it to do, but the chest is meh at best. I would have preferred they made the chest and abdomen one solid piece instead of having a break at the chest. The articulation at the shoulders, neck, elbows (to a lesser degree), wrist, thigh, hip joint and knees are all very good. The ankles is a different story from what I can tell. The ankle allows swivel movement from left to right, but you can not bend the ankle up or down, and that to me kind of limits some articulation. Now once again, this is a quick review, so maybe there is more articulation than I have posted here.
Fun Factor = N/A
I'll be honest guys, I don't play with these figures. I pick a pose and keep them in a pose until I decide to change it sometime down the line. I tend to treat my 1/4 figures as statues as they sure as hell can fool someone into thinking they are if inside a acrylic case. I plan to make this a diorama by creating a setting of brick and other objects I have yet to decide and enclose it in a acrylic case. I can see some cool poses for this one (which I will start on shortly based off the back cover of the Avengers Blu Ray cover (see back of cover if you have movie to see the pose I speak). I think it can be done. Nevertheless, these are not figures I play and pose on a consistent basis, so this is a rather moot component to a figure here.
Overall = 8.5 of 10
A borderline excellent figure that more than delivers a quality 1/4 alternative to the more expensive 1/6 Hot Toys version. I only paid $70 for him and $65 for my Warrior Predator next to him. For $70 I will take a 1/4 borderline excellent figure ALL DAY over a $200+ Hot Toy. Just my preference. What would make this figure a 9 or higher is if they added an extra unmasked head and had a straight pristine paint job on the areas I mentioned before. What this does show me is just how AWESOME this line of figures can be at 1/4. Realistically, I can see some great custom paint jobs on these figures that would make them look just as good if not better than any statue SS has yet to produce. The figure is that good. I can't complain about this figure in the least. I wish my hip joint wasn't slightly loose, but it doesn't deter me from posing Captain America.
As good as Cap is, I have a feeling Iron Man is going to blow Captain out of the water. I hope they go a metallic paint on IM too. This Cap is pretty awesome and sturdy. Do yourself a favor and buy one. You will not be sorry!!!
