The "more realistic" sculpt was an early two-up version displayed in early 2009. It represents a scaled-up version of the six inch figure. The one with the cloth flightsuit is the twelve-inch figure.

Yes i am 1 of those die hard fans aswel (they dont calle me the tattooed ghostbuster for nothin! ahah), so i really love the idea of having alot of variants. im always in for variants and esp these with them being ghostbusters, so even if they are the same headsculpts which i would imagine they will be, id be more than happy to have slimed, marshallow, pink slime versions. then the street clothes, egon in lab coat, gb2 uniform, gb2 courtroom suits, anything.

but yeah i do agree the whole time span is far too long. as already said, they should be releasing them in waves, like 4 figures in a wave or something every month or 2. for example,
wave1:venkman clean, peck, winston clean, library ghost
wave2:ray clean, egon clean, taxi ghost, venkman street clothes (brown suit with picture cards from begining of movie)
wave3: ray street clothes, egon lab coat, dana, drain ghost (flys out during movie)
wave4:winston street clothes, mayor, louis, ray marshmallow damage

orsomething like that hehe

Yeah, it seems weird. Because Mattel seems excited, as well as you can gauge genuine enthusiasm from a business, they talked about all the variants they'd like to make, all the second tier characters and even getting into The Real Ghostbusters. And I'd love to buy every single one of them. Slimed, clean, marshmallow covered, GBII uniform, with slime blowers, street clothes, lab clothes, Walter Peck, Janine, Louis, Dana...I'm excited to have them all on my shelf. But I'm just worried the more casual fans will be annoyed about having to wait a year and relieved to finally have the four Ghostbusters that their desire to wait the months and months for any further figures and months will vanish.

But then they have this really lazy rollout that seems to negate all the excitement they appeared to have. Maybe after this first year and they can better gauge interest(assuming that they sell very well, fingers crossed), they'll speed up the release a bit.

I'm actually confused as to what they are releasing in terms of the 12 inch figures. In some shots the 12 inch figures look cool like the ray and egon figure in these shots

One minute ray looks like this

the next he looks like this?

If they are variants how come the headsculpt and clothes look so different? I mean i can understand the equipment changes but one looks passable as ray and the other looks nothing like him

if you look in the shots taken at san diego comic con and on mattycollector.com's site they look very toyish and not a lot of work put into the sculpts at all especially the ray figure he seems to have 2 different versions yet on mattycollectors site only 1 seems to be up for release and it looks like the one with the goggles who looks nothing like ray.

I'd like to know which ray i'd be getting if i order. I mean id be pretty miffed if i ordered the one in the first pic and ended up getting the one with the headsculpt that looks nothing like ray and the baggy clothes. The first pics seem to be from new york comic con in february and the third pic from san diego comic con and also is the same one as on mattycollectors site. It looks like they have gone with the ones with the fabric clothing and poor headsculpt. Looks like i'll just be getting the 6 inch version of these figures..

You never studied...

:lol

You'd have to swap Waves 1 & 2 around with Murray being slow on the likeness :) And I think Dana should have been in a wave with Venkman. Other than that, still a good idea and would have rather seen Mattel go this route.

Good point cryoguns, ok how about:

wave1:ray clean, peck, winston clean, library ghost
wave2:venkman clean, egon clean, taxi ghost, dana (with exploded eggs in box)
wave3: ray street clothes, mayor, venkman street clothes(brown suit with picture cards from begining of movie) ,drain ghost (flys out during movie)
wave4:winston street clothes, egon lab coat, ray marshmallow damage, louis

any better??

Still can't make myself pull the trigger on ordering Egon. I keep thinking that I might regret it later if I don't, but as I've had time to process these figures, my interest has really waned. I just don't have much place for 6 inch figures in my collection anymore, and the price is so ridiculous for a figure that size.

i guess its personal choice karamazov, if ur a die hard gb fan then their is no question u should get these, but as u said, ur not sure and u dont have room for 6" figures, seems like u answered ur own question bud.

Yeah, I don't really see anyone complaining about waves. I'm sure they'd appreciate being able to save nearly $10 per figure in shipping costs.

yeah, just getting a full wave all togetrher would be cool. when i used to work at toys r us, we used to get full waves of the new star wars figures in so we could always reserve them and buy after work as a full set. matty collector and mattel shud have done the same with these, release 4 or so at a time.

That's great if you only buy Ghostbusters.. but I get MOTU too (which is why Im not getting Egon yet..). But also, if you did these in waves, how would you extend these past a year? You do a figure pack a month or every other, allows the line to go on for a while. Yes you have to wait but why is waiting such a bad thing? People are getting spoiled wanting everything ASAP.

no kidding! remember the days that you didn't even know that a toy line was coming out? you would just be walking along the toy aisles and be like "whoa! turtles that are ninjas?! awsesome!"

Well, finally it was sold out much quicker than He-Man and Beast man (motuc) and maybe with bigger stocks. Ghostbusters fans don't talk much but they act !

Yeah, I bought me one Egon last night after seeing Mattycollector's notice of low stock on it. A sales tactic, sure. But I really wanted him. Yeah, I'm one of those that saw Ghostbusters as a teenager in 1984. Back then I was 13. I loved it, and always wanted authentic, "movie-accurate" figures. Now we're finally getting them. I will buy all of the 6" and the 12" Ghostbusters figures from Mattel. Yeah, they're not Sideshow or Hot Toys quality, but they're decent. I'm glad that Bill Murray finally "caved in" and gave permission to use his likeness. I mean, you know he's getting paid for it in some way like Aykroyd, Ramis, and Hudson are. I don't know why he holds out so long. I'll always like his work in the movies. Don't get me wrong. But his star has faded somewhat since his height of popularity in the 1980s. But I'll always be a big fan of his due to Ghostbusters, Scrooged, Caddyshack, Lost In Traslation, and other movies he did that I enjoy to this day. :D

I don't mind waiting to get the entire line of Ghostbusters from Mattel. At least we know now that they are being made finally!
