"Free your mind, and the rest will follow."-ancient proverb

You can have a free mind within the rules society has. Following the rules does not equal slavery.

Edit: forgot to add 90's songs are now ancient proverb? :lol

Ah, you have remembered that ever wise saying that "Down low, (nobody has to know)"

Indeed, that's why I limit exposure to the backseat of my Jeep.

I've studied all the relevant scholars. Consider also:

Girls are fakin' goodness sakin'
They want the man who brings home the bacon.

Stay in skool!

"It's hip to be square!" ~ older than ancient proverb

"Free your mind, and your a$$ will follow."
-Drill Sergeant Lane, Ft. Benning, 2000.

:lecture True Story. He screamed this at us every time we'd start slowing down during our marches/runs/etc..etc.

You can have a free mind within the rules society has. Following the rules does not equal slavery.

:lecture This is exactly how I see it. There's a couple members in here that crack me up with the "sheep" name calling because I follow the rules instead of doing whatever I want when I want.

Yeah, as a rule follower myself I've heard that as well. It cracks me up when people use the sheep comments towards people who follow the rules. My life goes a hell of a lot smoother when I do than when I've not.

The fact that Darth Snoopy and other who disagree with me resort to ridicule and personal attacks proves my point. The school system is about oppression the crushing of individuality, and enforcing the power structure. They seek to crush the spirit of the individual even though they might have good intentions. The fact that someone would resort to personal attacks and ridicule proves that they have much darkness in them , because you can only express something if it is in you in the first place. Because this lack of personal civility proves that there is more evil and oppressiveness that I previously believed, I now realize that this evil simply runs too deep. Alas, I had previously believed in hope, although I can't say I do now. I cannot convert it.

I often find the real sheep are the idiots who follow these types of "anarchists" and wind up in trouble because neither understood the concept of society and the rules that guide it.

That makes sense then. I get that and I agree. :duff

This from the bloke who advocates humiliation as a disciplinary strategy :lol

:lol...if this bloke isn't an individual I don't know who is. I mean, most people figure out that the formal education system, for all its faults, provides the most effective route to the socialisation and education of the vast majority of individuals in society. The system evidently doesn't work as well for some as it does for others. The fact that some of these individuals actively opt to disengage from chunks of their formal education is antithetical to the notion that they are oppressed and have crushed spirits. It is, however, utterly and absolutely compatible with the notion that some people are plain freakin' stupid.

Well I never, lack of civility is synonymous with evil and oppression. Here I was thinking that it was a simple case of not tolerating the mindless idiocy, calculated naivety and inane psycho-babble that offends the sensibilities of most people in this thread.

Alas, I had previously believed in hope, although I can't say I do now. I cannot convert it.

:lol ...where the majority view is the informed, considered and rational one, and the minority view is the toss-pot, numbnut, whacko one, there is always hope.

But really, all it takes to crush this bloke's hope is a bunch of people on the internet who disagree with his lunatic opinions and aren't afraid to say so? Wow, this isn't a case of the education system having failed an individual. This is more a case of an individual who has failed the education system.
