I happen to own 5 Rainman Fullset figures with Jules FS on PO, tons of Iminime, Trevor Walt/Dexter, you may not consider me a "serious collector" but I like to think I am with some "serious figures" and I am all for "share the plastic love"

:exactly: We are all serious passionate collectors, which is why we spend so much time, maybe too much, "freaking out" on our computers and phones possibly neglecting or giving full attention to people close to us or doing something more productive because we invest not only our money but our time and effort by being active members in the community but the sacrifices many of us make by contributing so much passion and love for the hobby.

As far as the commission thing goes, I wouldn't be too worried about this becoming common practice. We're a small pack of folks that are willing to pay these prices for his full sets I can't see there being too many out there that is willing to swing that big commish paper. This isn't his first commission, it won't be his last and I'm sure there are other out there that have never went public.

I understand why some dudes are upset with this but we don't know any of the details. If the person truly isn't a regular here then we really can't say that he did this in spite of the rest of the community. We don't even know how much (if at all) Rainman checks the wishlist thread. If it's someone here then that's a whole different story. The same way I talk about our relationship with RM, we have a relationship with each other. Whether we're boys, don't care for each other, commonly agree, agree to disagree, etc. we're all part of a fairly small circle that frequent the high end custom threads. I feel there should be certain courtesies and respect within our group but that's a whole different story that I won't go deep on.

And as far as the X-1 with Mags, I see nothing wrong. He tried to get that to be the DX and it wasn't gonna happen. That's the most he could've done

:exactly::goodpost:

No one is upset at Rainman, we all stated he was free to do as he pleased, it's just the situation and circumstances that was upsetting and unfortunate, most of us admitted to being jealous man-children, but who wouldn't want the opportunity to put such a phenomenal piece in their collection by one of the most sought after talented artists, especially when the likeness is sooo undeniably spot on and the characters medium is equally as appealing, Rainman really did a remarkable job on this one, legendary even. Jealousy Leads To Anger, Anger Leads To Hate, Hate Leads to Suffering, haha.

Excellent post. It's a shame I'll never get to own RM's version of this character but ce sera sera I'll live. Figure looks phenomenal and whoever has commissioned him is getting a masterpiece that's for sure.

Legend has it the guy who commissioned this has commissioned two other full figures also.

That's a lot of scratch right there.

that is correct, he had had 3 made so far, all ooak never too be made figures. now thats its out i can say i knew about this a long time ago. and no out of repsect to rm and the person who dropped mega $$$$ i will not say who he is, it is irrelevant as its done already. and i would only guess many more on the way. if rm or the collector himself want to come on and discuss they can. i have no problem with it, as long as it doesnt interfere with his releases where he makes the most money. but to be honest there will never be a way to tell if the private comm. are a distraction or not. you would have to hear that come from rm himself, and he would never admit to that. so to answer the question we will never know if this is why some of the guys concerns on here are about certain conditions, like i have read that these seem rushed from start to finish, the quailty and sculpt accuracy arent the same, etc etc,. is the reason because of the ooak private comm. we will never know that, ever. and honestly if rm took on 3 private comm. why would he just stop doing it if asked again? like somebody said if the money is right anything goes, you all should know this, bulls__t wals money talks.

In my opinion Rainman shouldn't really be gettig any of the critism here. It's the guy who commissioned it who we should be upset with, weather we have a right to be upset with him or not that point is up for debate.

As I said rainman if anything stands to make more from successfull full runs than private commissions.

And it's definitely not his fault for showing it off god damn that's something to be proud of!

It just makes me a sad sad manchild is all :(

ray, l like you and respect many of the things you say. sorry bro but not this. this guy did nothing wrong, he probably hit rm up and asked for a private comm. and rm said yes. how the heck is this guy wrong? and its been done before with rm. you must be po'd at that guy too. cant be upset with one and not the other? and "no" the guy is not my buddy or anything like that. so i am not just sticking up for him. could be anybody. the guy did nothing wrong.

RM made a masterpiece that just happens to be a private commission. Oh well what can we do, hopefully he'd consider another version of the character with a different head/expression and outfit if there's enough interest. Now back to Jules, I'm still hoping we can see the revised head sculpt painted sometime soon.

Seems that he should have kept the personal projects between the buyer and him. Any figure RM does everyone would have an interest in....private work keep hidden....won't cause issues like this.
As far as Jules....doubt you will see anything....doubt he has any motivation in the PF anymore if he reads all of this. Serang never has issues like this does he?

He's a business man first and showing that private commission might be a direction he would like to head in. 1 Commission with one person and trying to make only that person happy instead of 35.

I was thinking that this could be an unfortunate potential side effect of all the complaining here. It isn't that Rainman would stop doing any of this to appease whiny collectors, but he might stop posting pics. I think Teddy deleted his David thread after all the (completely unjustified) complaints tossed his way. I would love to see the great work Rainman comes up with, but some may prefer to remain blissfully ignorant. There are supposedly other commissioned figures out there that have never had pics posted to my knowledge. I think that's too bad. But seeing how people respond to these pics I can understand why someone would hesitate to post about them. I doubt I would in their shoes.

My girl actually has a little interest in all this. Sometimes I catch her reading when I leave the page open on the iPad and then she starts asking questions :lol. She's hip to a lot that goes on on the board and she always asks about the latest projects. Guess I'm lucky

After all the Jules problems (and these are really systematic issues that have been building up over time) I can definitely see his business strategy changing in response. There are sometimes consequences to the actions collectors take. . .and I'm sure there is at least one person out there who would be willing to fork over $5K for a Rainman Bickle. If Rainman starts thinking that he would be hassled much less doing a 1-off and satisfying a single customer. . .

It seems like he works better with the 1 of 1 commissions. Maybe it's a good idea to stick with that business model instead.

Rainman wouldn't do that. He has agreed to go general release with Bickle, he would risk his integrity by pulling it and going OOAK.

It's only a "measly" 5k, per you. You can swing it, Prince Akeem. Or is it Neno Brown today? Or, are you part of the Terror Squad, homie?

As I've always said, if you have the paper, and RM says, " yes," then make it happen.

Rainman also said he was doing Johnny Ringo before and it didn't happen. He also planned on doing Jack Rabbit Slim Vince and it didn't happen. He's been allowed to change his mind without people calling his integrity into question. I don't think this is actually going to happen, but if someone offered him $5K for it today, I wouldn't be shocked if he took it. I suspect he is much less motivated by what we broadly want or think from here on, something basically confirmed by Cheungkinmen.

Upsetting Rainman, (which has possibly happened) could indeed change his mindset about how he releases his figures in future. I think this whole incident could be very costly to us fans of his work.

Bingo. I'm glad you sad that

I don't think that's true brother. He's shown us that he's well capable of producing a full run of an amazing figure. He's done it time and time again and that's why his faithfuls are all here. IDK what happened with the PF boys but it felt like he wanted to get them out of the way ASAP. Those who expressed disappointment is only because we know his potential and it's just odd and hard to rationalize why these guys fell a little short of that standard.

There were never individual threads filled with so much passion for them figures you mentioned. Travis Bickle is at a different stage altogether than the ones you mention. The ones you mention were really just speculation, Bickle has been given the green light by RM himself.
