Medicom's tailoring on their robe was perfect, the fabric they used was strange though.
Was it? I don't know if I've seen it in hand. But I've always been tempted to buy a Maul and I always end up saying to myself to wait because with the face or proportions or outfit isn't up to par. If the one in the box looks that good...it's the one.

I'll put it like this, I was about to sell my sideshow clone figures for wanting to jump into a smaller scale for star wars. But now this makes me want to display them with this Maul.

This is my Medi Maul I heavily modified. Turned out great and I still love it but this new one has me wanting to get it.

He looks great. What's modded on him?

I used a Hot Toys DX02 black slim body and sculpted neck like the spiderman 3 figures have to swap everything over. Using HT wrist pegs and feet I think. Can't remember. But the head was the hardest part. Cut off the sculpted neck and back filled the hollow head with hot glue to make the ball joint for the neck. Turned out great. I also gave him the SS Maul belt and still have the sabers from that figure to go along with it. The first pics have the plastic Medi belt but the last one has the SS.

It's the first version so the HT wrist pegs fit well inside the hands for swapping. I tried to do the mod for a fellow boardie on the second version but it had different wrist pegs and was difficult to get them to stay on.

I wonder how soon before he is featured on the site and has a release date

Depends, it's possible they brought him to SDCC because he was far along enough to show off but not far along enough for order, he had very few accessories to show off at the con, his teaser image showed no more than what was at the con, could still be working the accessories, costuming and a possible second head.

Can't wait to see what the package is, I can imagine offering his probes in some package, I just hope it's not all or none, I'd like just Maul, I had the first release of Maul's balls and they were neat but I can live without them.

Last year they revealed Scout, Luke X-Wing, C-3PO, and TIE Pilot, and we didn't get pre-orders until Sep, Oct, Nov, and Dec, respectively. Maybe they'd follow a similar pattern. Judging by what was shown I would guess that the AT-AT Driver and Droid are the closest to being done so maybe we'll see those go up first.

It's only a matter of time... they're making Vader in 1/6 so I'm sure we'll see both the Stormtrooper and Fett at some point.

At the SW collectibles panel at SDCC they confirmed 1/6th figures for all three of the McQuarrie designs. No timeframe though.

I like my old SSC Maul but the body doesn't pose that well... main gripe. I need a variant snarling head to make this a buy, his expression on what they showed at SDCC is not that different than the one I have. I think the outfit was good on the original except the boots. The new gloves are separate pieces for hand swaps which may prove better in the long run as the long rubber glove ends are a bit odd at times.

The original SSC Maul is not a terrible figure by any means, but it had room for improvement and so far what we've seen is a vast improvement.

- Costume made of more authentic materials, better lay over the figure.
- Improved portrait sculpt and paint work.
- Nicer accessories (lightsaber at least).
- 2 piece head/neck style.
- 2 piece hand/glove style.

I loved the original when it came out, but the portrait had room for growth even before Medicom came along and now Sideshow 2.0, but it was a vast leap beyond Hasbro so it was very welcome.

Big difference in portraits.

Not that you can see much but they had another shot for the collecting panel at SDCC.

And since someone mentioned, here's a progress shot on the McQuarrie Vader figure.

Agree on all points but I have to say my SSC 1.0 factory paint looks way better than the example in your first shot. My point was that the new head looks better but not different enough by itself for me to roll out the cash. I want a more sinister look for a saber battle as an alternate head.

Not just paint though, the original is a great Ray Park likeness but it's like all the effort went into the likeness with no emotion to it, the new one has subtle features in his browline and mouth that add a sense of anger.

All old SSC bodies should be burned, hate them. Lets face it the 2.0 Maul is a win over the original. I just hope they have plenty of accessories for him.

My old Maul will be heading for the 1/6 retirement home when this version is out.

Its a clear improvement. This Maul has that stare that he did in the movie. His face is almost lifelike. The old one looks like a toy. Blank ass expression. Like it's been said, this guy has the subtle angles in his face which show seething hatred, with nothing more than realistic eye placement and the brow.

I will say this, why is Sideshow hung up on the force hand gesture pose, the preview image, SDCC pose and now the slideshow tease all use it, I just find it funny that he's always in that pose, especially when Maul hardly used the force, which I kind of like, he used it once to throw a droid body at the console to open the doors from the Theed hangar, and then again to knock Obi-Wan into the pit, he was really just all kicks and lightsaber skills, part of what really entertained me with him, he didn't use words to impose, he just had the perfect face to suit a formidable villain and in a role of master and apprentice on the Sith side it was a perfect pairing, Sidious is the brains and the one who's a threat with his words and actions, Maul was the swift sword. I wonder if Lucas could have sensed the popularity Maul would find, would he have altered the course of the prequels. I feel like you could easily take Dooku out and find some other way for the results of his presence to happen. All we ever really see him do is try to sway some separatists to his side, most of his accomplishments are through exposition. Imagine Anakin's downward turn if he had to kill Maul instead of old man in Episode 3.

I agree this is an improvement. I too would like a snarling head sculpt. I have the medicom 2.0 Maul and it has a great sculpt as well.

Looks superb, but I'd still prefer a mechanical legs Maul or Dooku before him. Or Maul 2.0, then Dooku, then Mechanical Legs Maul, then Darth Sidious/Emperor Palpatine 2.0, then Savage Opress, and then maybe an Ventress 2.0? I think she and Sidious need and update as well, and they could use more and better Dark Side users. Revan, Malak, Sion, Nihilus, Traya, Bane, Plagueis, Talon, Nhil, and Krayt would be cool too.
