Yet, so many love the Midas suit...I don't get it.

Fyi, not at you KBA...

I didn't really like the mark 42 colour scheme to start off with, it's grown on me though BUT I liked the Midas suit straight away, can't tell you why either to be honest?!? lol

Apologies if this has been talked about recently, but is this still happening? Or is this the same figure?

Hot Toys Iron Man Mark 42 – Battle Damaged Sixth Scale Figure

I forgot who the fellow boardie I had a discussion with was, where I stood my ground saying that Mark 43 won't be the first AoU figure HT will release since Mark 42's not sold out yet.

You win, buddy. Virtual drinks on me :duff

As it's just a repaint I guess it was kind of the obvious choice really, easy money for Hot Toys & faster production time turn around. :)

Not the case...as I said months ago. At least that's not what the ad was for. hot toys did plan to release a bd version of the figure.
Sideshow jumped the gun on their own site and posted as a battle-damaged mark 42 teaser, but they were mistaken. Within days, the accessory pack including the teased battery was revealed, and obviously another version of the 42 never came to be. That, and the figure pictured is in no way different from the released 42.

True, I can't help but think of the other side of marketing, though. While Mark 43 can be produced at less cost, I was thinking it would hurt the sale of Mark 42. Already casual IM fans/collectors here in my country are thinking of cancelling/getting rid of their 42s.

I agree with you there but to be honest I didn't think we'd be seeing anything from the film figure wise for a while yet either..., I guess they know what they are doing though BUT it does seem a bit of a silly thing to be doing when the mark 42 is still available. :/

I'd like to grab a 42 now for a little less than retail :lol but I'll be getting the 1/4 42 instead.

I definitely think the 43 announcement will both drive down the price of the 42 and hurt its sales, some people just want the next new shiny thing so they will obviously go for the newer armor over the old...... and AOU>IM3

The way hot toys works they made their sales on the 42 already. They produce a set number of each figure based on several factors. Like preorders and past orders of like product, and even forums and Facebook interest. Though that's last stuff is a small part of it. So they made and sold pretty much everything already. The distributors and second hand dealers are selling their stock off, and hot toys will have a few left (customer service ones and some in case a shipment is lost but they don't count on those as sales). But once a figure is produced and all units allocated that's it as far as hot toys is concerned.

So moving on to mark 43 does not hurt hot toys sales of the mark 42, as hot toys sold theirs before the 42 even released(effectively).

So no, the 43 will not have any negative impact on the 43. And if current collectors sell the 42 they have to get a 43, that's pretty much perfect for hot toys. It's like a new model year car, replacing the last years. In fact the process works nearly the same with new cars.
