The shield I can see. But I don't get why it matters on the figure. The human ones are not expected to be flesh. Lol and only a very small portion of the figure is actually metal. And it's not even remotely close to the same material. The metal used in the figures is about as far from the stated suit material on screen as can be. A real suit would be much more likely to be made from a material closer to the plastic figure then the DC figures(carbon fiber or Kevlar or something like that)..to make it able to move and fly and be anywhere near as thin as its depicted it wouldn't be mostly metal. Most of it would be some type of plastic or composit.

Also, the suits made to wear on set are fiberglass and resin. So the plastic is closer to the "real suit" lol

That's cool.

As an owner of IM figures of both material, I personally prefer the die-cast. :duff

Not really the material that matters to me it's the suit design. These could be made out of paper and as long as it looked good on the shelf i would not care.

phones still require metals in circuitry components, but yeah, toys also work the exact same plastic or metal, Gundams are a pretty good example

No, you misunderstand. I'm just talking about the outer casing, the bit you can see. Forget the inner workings and electronics. The phone would have to be the same underneath, but you could have it cased in metal or plastic. Metal feels nicer and gives it a little bit of heft. High end phones tend to be made of metal for that reason.

Die cast model cars too. It doesn't really matter what they're made of if you're just looking!

My sentiments also. If I was that averse to plastic, I wouldn't have any of the plastic IM at all. If I had to choose a preference though, I'd prefer the die-cast.

I didn't mention engines, or anything that has to use a certain material. A phone will work exactly the same whether it's made out of plastic or metal. An Aston Martin works the same way a Hyundai does. Material choice is a factor in quality.

Understand completely why you'd prefer plastic in figures though.

Lol you seem to be confused about many things my friend.

Let's go through your list...would I rather have metal or plastic trim? Most trim is plastic and almost none is metal. Wood is not metal. And "wood" used in a car is almost always vaneer or paper thin sheets of wood. And either way, if you choosing what trim packag it's based on appearance and function not how much it weighs. Ever. And you brought up cars so let's look at the top quality brands. Lambo, Bentley, Ferrari, Land Rover for example...lots and lots and lots more plastic or composite then metal (outside of the parts required to be metal like engine or tranny).

You have brought up structure and rigidity multiple times in this discussion but diecast does not provide any of that. Zero. Plastic is actually a much better material then dc. There is no advantage in structure or quality provided by diecast over plastic. Not a single one, outside of weight. That's it's. It's NOT more structurally sound. Lol diecast is a cheap cheap cheap metal. It's to gold or titanium or even aluminum as partical board is to walnut or cherry or whatnot. There is plastic in a space shuttle. There is plastic in a Lambo and Range Rover and the international space station and almost any "quality" item you can think about (iPhone galaxy edge or anything else) but there is no white metal/pot metal in any of those products. None of them. So just by your analogy plastic is a far more high end material. It is actually in those items. The exact same plastic. But the same metal from DC figures is not.

Again, there is no product you or I listed (and pretty much none outside of gems and Pm) that is bought because it's heavy. And diecasts single advantage over plastic is weight. That's it. That's it's only edge. It doesn't look better. It doesn't function better. It's not more durable. It's not more structurally sound. It is heavier. Plain as that.

I asked before and you listed lots of things that had metal and that made them better for some reason but that wasn't what I asked. What other product have you ever bought where it was purchased strictly because it was heavier? Because that's the argument your making in favor of it this time. That heavy equals quality. I'm saying show me what you bought that was purchased because it was heavier.

Let them fight!

I would have thought it was obvious that I wasn't talking about weight in regards to car interiors. And you didn't answer the question.

Explain to me why my die cast figures are more solid than the plastics then? I never said that there wasn't. I think you missed the point.

No one goes to buy something simply because it's heavy. I never said that either. Having said that, heft, like I mentioned earlier, tends to give things a nicer feel. I prefer handling my 42 to my VII. Just because you disagree doesn't mean I'm wrong.

Solidity, sturdiness and weight are all indicators of quality, whether you think so or not.

Chuckles, diecast metal is literally some of the cheapest nastiest metals you'll find. It costs about $2 a kilo, so you know it's quality.

Plastic is superior for scale toys. Holds details better and paints better.

'The use of plastics is reduced to almost zero'

I think that just about sums it up.

Spyker C8 Aileron | Spykercars

I'm not taking this what is better converstion to seriously at all just having fun. I just checked the specs on the Bugatti Veyron and the chassis and body are both made of reinforced plastic (with alumunuim for the suspension and engine mounting areas).

That's different. Supercars are made as light as possible because it benefits their performance. That's why their bodies are often made of plastics. For something like the switches on the interior, it doesn't really make a difference (unless it's something like a track car that saves every gram it can) what they're made of. Material is chosen for its look and feel.

So now you're spouting random statements that have zero relation to the hobby of figure collecting in general or the topic to hand in order to support your untenable position? Gotcha.

This has all stemmed from Motux's comment that all things quality are made as light as possible. So it really had little to do with figures in the first place.

They are though. The reason cell phone makers might add weight or heft is simply to fool simple minds into thinking its better, motux was right in stating humans try to achieve durability and less weight in just about every facet of invention and design
