Opened him up. Like him quite a bit. I had some issues getting one of the branches on his base right but I think I got it. His lantern doesn't light up. They say batteries are already in it. Tried to open it up to try to put in the replacement batteries(thinking somehow mine had already gone bad) but I don't have a screwdriver small enough. Only managed like one or two pics which I don't have uploaded yet. Was gonna pull him out again last night but...my son is scared of him :( so now I can only take him out when my kid is sleep lol. My son doesn't seem bothered by him if he's just sitting in the display with the other hot toys figures but when I try to take him off the shelf to do anything with him, he freaks out.

A bit like Gremlins really....

Did you check if there was any clear plastic between the battery end and the contact ? Usually if batteries are installed they have this to prevent battery drain while on the shelf. But maybe someone who has the figure can say more.

I really hate that I missed out on this figure at my local collectibles store. I can't believe they sold both of them in a few days. Now if I want him, I have to pay cash for it.

I don't think the lantern was shipped with any batteries already installed. Mine certainly wasn't.

Yeah, I had to order a set of micro-screwdrivers, as the small ones I have just are too large and I didn't want to risk stripping the threads on the screw.

Very good advice. I actually used the point of my penknife but I wouldn't like to do it again in a hurry.

After over a month of inhand images and exposure to YouTube video’s, my desire to own Yoda is fading. Naturally a major issue is the $300 + Canadian funds he would cost but beyond that( i’m sorry but I will have to judge him by his size), Yoda translates on shelves as an accessory! I am a one per shelf collector and “alone on shelf he cannot be”!

There is however a spot beside my DX Luke that would be ideal for Yoda but I am hesitant as maybe the upcoming HT R2 D2 might provide a greater “POW/impact” visually.

Yoda is a fantastic looking figure and I would love to have him in my collection but since I have not yet placed an order it appears I don’t need him right now……

Bo, I understand where you are coming from. Sometimes allowing the initial "new figure excitement" to pass will allow one to truly know if a figure merits the addition to the collection. To be honest, I practice that almost exclusively (except for must-have figures that I knew would be an instant purchase for my collection) and it has saved me quite a bit of money. Not only from passing on some figures, obviously, but from being able to pick up these figures later on at discounted prices.

In this hobby, patience is indeed a virtue as well as a boon for one's wallet.

By the way, I don't see this version of Yoda being revisited by Hot Toys for quite some time, if at all... :wink1:

Here are my guidelines for myself when it comes to purchasing:

- If it's a figure you absolutely without a doubt know you want in your collection, PO it at retail. Even if it decreases in value on the secondary market, I'm not willing to take that gamble with a figure I know that I want. If it decreases, I have no regrets getting it at retail because it was worth retail to me to have in my collection.

- If it's a figure I'd like to have but am ambivalent with, then wait. I'd LIKE to have it, but it's not worth retail to me to have in my collection. If it decreases on the secondary market, then I'll potentially pull the trigger at a price that I deem is worth it to me. If it increases in price on the secondary market, I don't lose any sleep over it because it wasn't worth retail to me as a must have in my collection in the first place. Also taking into consideration the likelihood of another version of that character being made, which would presumably drive down the price of the current version I'd like to have.

- Figures on the secondary market that I'd like to have, but set a price ceiling with as far as what I'm willing to pay for it to have in my collection.

You seem like you'd fall in the second category of what I outlined regarding this figure. However, as FaF mentioned, also take into consideration that it's unlikely HT is going to be revisiting Yoda any time soon and this is going to be the only HT (which I think is the best version out there) version available.

HT Yoda is an anomaly for me. I absolutely love the character. I have no problem paying $200 for a 1/6 version of Yoda. My issue is paying $200 for this Yoda. There are too many small problems with it too ignore.

-The headsculpts are detailed and have excellent paint, but they do not really look like Yoda. Features are too symmetrical and his face looks puffy. Also the dirt wash looks weird and not accurate.
-Clothes look too new and have no weathering other then the elbow hole.
-Only a couple sets of hands. None of them hold the cane that well.
-Accessories are underscaled. Displaying Yoda on his own not too bad, but looks a little off with Luke.
-The hair. It is great that they listened to feedback but the way it was executed is awful. Between it falling out or being able to see the sculpted hair underneath, it is unacceptable. Looks more like a custom. Also it looks like prequel "pretend" trilogy hair.
-Loose body/joints.

I could have lived with any one of those niggles on their own, but the sum of them is just too great considering the cost. I am not expecting a perfect quality replica of the puppet in 1/6 form, but just better than what we were given from Hot Toys.

The worst part is Hot Toys have collectors balls in a vice. You either have already spent thousands of dollars on the other figures and can't skip Yoda because he is an essential character or you have been fear mongered into buying him because there probably won't be another one for years if ever.

I added glass eyes to my custom Yoda figure and I think they really bring him to life. I've still got some work to do (slightly re-align the eyes, sculpt some new eyelids, remove some of the hair, add the HT inner robe and necklace), but I'm pretty pleased with him so far. What do you think?

I like the addition of glass eyes. If it was possible to add sculpy to extend the upper eyelid, it would reduce the suprised look and really sell the glass eyes. The snarky hobo/bum yoda comments are related to the overly heavy weathering of his robe. I would focus on weathering the areas the would naturally weather on clothing - (elbows for example). If you clean the robe and start over it would be ideal. Just a few constructive suggestions!
