Pretty interesting getting to tear this thing down to apply the Shin-Etsu grease to the rubber sections (apart from the heart-in-mouth terror of performing surgery on a pricey collectible). turns out the inner cuff is skinned with rubber too. Also the shoulder joint is wrapped in a thin sheet of rubber - the joint inside that sleeve is a ball joint connecting into the arm on a vertical swivel, so if you're not happy about where the shoulders sit it can be adjusted quite easily. Joint is extremely tight though.

This, I have no idea as to whether it's rubber or vinyl. The gloss finish might actually be a paint operation, on closer examination.

These parts on the side also appear to be rubber - quite soft rubber. Shin-Etsu'd them too just to be on the safe side.

"This unit needs millions of dollars in parts - you see, Robocop's... off-warranty."

"I thought we agreed on total body prostheses - now lose the arm."

Relatively painless process. Used a small sable brush to work the grease into the hard-to-reach areas, cleaned down any excess and run-off with a microfiber cloth. One problem I've noticed is that the rubber on this figure is a dust and fluff magnet. I dusted all the rubber carefully with a large, flat-edged sable brush before getting to work and ended up doing the same again to get some particles and fibres out of the grease at the end.

One final thing I would otherwise never have noticed - they managed to leave an entire screw out of the 'good' arm. Nice work, Hot Toys. A quality product.

Nice work, PB, many thanks for this. HT is turning into the OCP of the high-end world. :ohbfrank:

Damn that's a lot of rubber. :slap

More than I originally anticipated, that's for sure.

Hey, I noticed that the rubber seal around the shoulder cavity comes away from the body at the top. Is this normal on all Robocop figures?

Mine's the same, it seems to be connected only along the lower edge. I think this may be intentional to facilitate shoulder movement.

Thanks for posting. That missing screw would drive me crazy. I would have already put the other in a baggie and headed to Home Depot to find the EXACT screw. Otherwise, there would be no sleep.

Luckily once the new arm arrives I'll still have the old one to steal a screw from. Rubber on that arm has actually already degraded further, I've left it untreated to see just how far it'll go.

I found a rare picture of Hot Toys's customer service rep.

Sorry to hear about you problems Bateman. The mystery of the rubber issues continue. I hope that this isn't going to become a common report now.

I've had mine posed in a gun pointing (right arm) position with the left arm bent at full 90° for a month and a half now. I just took him down to check and aside from some expected (minor) creasing from having the arm bent for so long, all looks a-ok.

I'm leaving him in a limp position until tonight to see if the the minor creasing forms back into place

The only issue I had with this guy from the beginning is the right arm doesn't lock tightly into a 90° as the left one does

Found the culprit to the loose left arm!! I was advised to carefully check the clear plastic socket piece in the chest cavity, and there's a crack in it!!

Here's a photo of the good side where the plastic is nice, smooth, and you can see the white or other components behind it through the clear plastic.

Here's a pic of the bad left side where right at the back of the socket where it attaches to some component behind it, there's a stress fracture! In the pic, you can even see the hairline crack leading up to the front of the socket. Previously I had though that little section was just the components behind showing through the clear plastic, but it looks to be a crack!

Glad I was able to help you spot the issue early, hope it gets replaced quickly.

Thanks so much again!! In my vid review, you can only catch a slight glimpse at the crack. It's a shame I didnt do a straight on view of the socket. Either way, glad the culprit is known now and I can hopefully get a replacement. Cheers!

I'd noticed the resistance on the rubber can pull the arms back from going fully to 90 degrees too. Yes, it's annoying but I chose to buy from Asia thus destroying any chance of getting customer service from Hot Toys or an authorised reseller and got a very good price on the figure, really the most annoying thing is having to spend the extra cash that's now put this well above retail price on parts for maintenance - then again, being in the UK my only real choices are One Sixth Bruce and similar (long since sold out of preorders), or paying vastly over the odds with Forbidden Planet. Collecting Hot Toys in the UK is an exercise in suffering, the prices here are insane compared to Asia and even the US.

Worst of all, I've been buying ThreeA products for years, since 2011 at least, and the last time I had an issue their customer service was generally outstanding. It didn't matter where you got the figure from, even if it was second-hand - as long as you had the figure and packaging they'd send you replacement parts or even have figures shipped back to them for repairs. No idea if that's still the case as they've grown into a larger company, but Hot Toys could stand to learn a few things from them.

I'd advise anyone worried to get some Shin-Etsu grease and apply it to the rubber sections pre-emptively. It's actually improved the look of the parts that haven't degraded yet quite noticeably, which makes me think Hot Toys should be applying something similar themselves but simply didn't bother.

That's just ridiculous. I remember being quite shocked when I pulled apart Robocop, and also popped the legs off my Silver Centurion, that they use clear plastic at the joints - it's notoriously brittle and prone to cracking and shearing, at least in Silver Centurion's case it was fully-encased in the plastic of the outer hip joint. Worse, there's no easy way to replace that joint on Robocop, your only option is likely going to be to get a new Torso.

Shame they didn't go with a silver visor. I've never been able to sit through the whole of the Prime Directives miniseries, it's just painful to watch - except for the guy playing Robocable. He honestly does a better Robocop than the guy they hired to play Robocop. Suit looks good colour-reversed too.

I'd honestly love it if Hot Toys went crazy and started doing NECA-style obscure repaints as exclusives or limited runs. I'd definitely be down for glow-in-the-dark and Robocop Vs The Terminator versions :lol
