I wonder if you can get this into the Hasbro pose with the saber through the handlebars?

So my Collector Sense started tingling with this guy. My focus is Battle of Hoth. I’m not a PT fan. But I love that duel and this DX release just looked special to me somehow. Had to see for myself.

First impressions (15 minutes):

1. Not pudgy or fat. Robes need to be pulled and re-positioned.

2. Neck may be easily shifted on the torso, magnetic head sculpt is easily shifted very subtly, nice and expressive.

3. No big surprise but body is very good. Smooth joints easily posed.

4. Very nice details on bike and probe droid. Bike is sharp and nice display piece.

5. Sculpt looks fantastic to me. It looks like a mini Darth Maul.

Release on the whole is sick. Screws up my focus but feels so quality. Feels DX.

Your mileage may vary; I don’t have the SSC and won’t, but this thing is kind of what Hot Toys is all about; unless it looks radically different tomorrow.

Losing light now; spent the day with the girlfriend so only just cracked this open. Here are some quick and dirty snapshots.

Nice shots! Sculpt looks good there...

This shot shows exactly why a magnetised head is perfect for highly agile/poseable characters like Maul and Spiderman. So easy to get the head into any pose. Then add the PERS system (I know they're not parallel any more) and other stuff and it all takes this figure to the next level.

Dare I say beyond the SS version....

I don’t think that anyone would disagree with you that the HT version has an overall better quality. It is the sculpt, likeness and the expression/look of the SSC version that some of us find superior.

Thanks for posting the Maul's side by side, looking at them together, I feel like the ultimate Maul would be a mix and match of both figures, but if you could have only one straight from the manufacturer, HT is better overall and best value for the price of the figure.

I think this guy looks great. I had passed on the SS waiting for the eventual HT release. Although I thought it looked good, the price was ridiculous. Still is for what he comes with. I think I definitely made the right choice. I have the SS v1 (never opened) and was ready to give the SS v2 the cloak and set up the Probe droid set I have as well.

I get those that prefer the SS version as the facial sculpt and expression do seem a little more screen accurate to Rey Park. But, Maul is supposed to be mean looking. Something from your darkest nightmare (how Lucas pitched his design to his conceptual artists). Based on that, I prefer the HT version. Sometimes I don't need a miniature version of an actor sitting on my shelf. I don't look at a Darth Maul and judge the figure/statue based on whether I think it does or doesn't look like Rey Park. But whether or not it looks like a badass Darth freaking Maul.. The HT does that in spades.

We know the HT is superior in every other way as far as body construction, quality of materials and accessories. The ultimate Maul fan probably needs both to be satisfied. My biggest conundrum still is whether to get him with or without his speeder. I have the Hasbro one if I absolutely felt the need to have him displayed with one. But after seeing how good the HT speeder came out, it's hard not to want it. I have it in every other scale (4" Hasbro & 6" Figuarts Maul with speeder's).

Gotta decide soon...

Dayam that looks good. No doubt about the DX being the superior value/over-all quality. But I am going for the ultimate-mash up when this hits North America. The Robe will need a complete water-treatment submersion and steam treatment...just what you expect these days from Hot Toys...(Looks at the Emperor and shakes his head)

I now have both versions in hand and I must say the HT version is underwhelming. Although the saber accessories are great and have better / crisper detailing than the sideshow version, the headsculpt just doesn’t come anywhere near the SSC version. I Never thought I’d say that sentence, but for me the SSC headsculpt is an almost perfect depiction of Darth Mauls appearance in TPM. Also the HT version looks too squat and he has an almost non existent neck.
