Nice pics!

One thing I'm surprised by in all the in-hand pics and reviews so far is how everyone still just has him staring dead ahead. I think he'd probably look a bit more menacing with the head tilted down and eyes angled upward slightly. Or looking slightly up and to the side.

I think that looks good.

I think your front skirt tabard might be too low. His robe above the belt should spill over his belt a bit.

You’re probably right, I’ll need to settle down with some references. I’ve watched that duel 100 times so I can get his body language but haven’t paid much attention to how his costume sits.

The challenge will be balancing any bunching vs. keeping it from riding up his shoulders — which produces the no-neck pudgy look.

Some steam and some patience will get it there.

LOL — haven’t got to the eyes yet. I think you’re spot-on and I’ll see what I can do in daylight when I’m not a few beers in. [emoji6]

Great pics, ZE_501. How is the acrylic rod that plugs into the base for the speeder? Is it a snug fit?

Snug as a bug etc. Can't see any problems on my copy.

Looked at some footage. The shade of red on Maul's face changes with the lighting. Even through the make-up, you can see the subtle changes of expression Park gives the character -- subtle sneers, wide-eyed, predatory blank stare, and so on. There are scenes and angles where his face legit looks longer and narrower than the HT sculpt, others where the two are more or less indistinguishable. No complaints here. The HT sculpt has that very slight glare as opposed to the blank, almost-pursed-lips look.

Okay, super fast. Batman is a little behind, everyone else is more or less in-line.

Maul here is slightly tilted forward and over to his left.

So easily taller than Enterbay Bruce Lee; a touch shorter than Keaton Bats (his shoulders are lower) and considerably shorter than diecast Mark 6.

That's weird; Michael Keaton is 1.75m, whereas Ray Park is 1.78m :dunno

Ray Park' height was falsely stated on the web I think so, ~1.78m is Ewan Mcgregor's height, so this Darth Maul would be around Luke's height ?

After watching the I Am Toys review I think I would be happy with just finding the speeder and saber parted out. I also wanted the cloak, but it looks like It’s pretty impossible to pose.
So... if anyone buys the DX17, but decides to part with the speeder, and maybe the cloak, hit me up. :)

Had a few minutes to spend on the figure this morning, mostly adjusting the shirt and belt, tried some preliminary steaming on the outfit.

In the light of day and fully sober (LOL -- oh MAN that sounds bad -- I received the figure after a day of patio beers yesterday) I still think it's excellent and feel you can get a lot out of it. I think they did a great job with the articulated boots, and the hands are great. I feel like HT hands sometimes look rushed or clunky but don't get that vibe with these.

As usual, they could have sourced better fabric for the costume but I'm sure it's a cost/quantity/production issue. You can work with it, though. The same stiffness that makes it difficult to futz, retains shapes when you get it where you need it to be with a little steam or water, so that's a win.

Haven't messed with the outer cloak/robe yet for lack of time -- I'm sure that's going to be much more challenging. I'll have a go at it but I'm more likely to display him in Theed Palace style anyway -- looks more dynamic and athletic and I kinda want a young Obi Wan. No need for QGJ. He dead. ;)

I also love the magnetic head-neck joint. I would like all peg assembles (hands, angles etc.) to be replaced with magnets. So long as they're securely installed.

*Looks at Hot Toys production team suspiciously.*

The speeder is a fun accessory, but I really don't dig the printed sand base. To my mind it looks as good or better hovering over the generator room floor.

As far as the post for attaching the speeder, it's straight and secure, but it takes a little fiddling to seat it into the base correctly and securely. You would almost think it won't fit securely but then it suddenly does.

Good to hear about the ankle articulation. I’m a sucker for that. And the more I hear about the speeder the more I want it. I may just use my eBay bucks next month to get the deluxe.

I haven't pushed the ankle articulation to any extreme yet, but it looks to be more than enough for most natural stances. Speeder's cool. Do you NEED it? No, you really don't, but you don't need a Darth Maul doll with articulated eyeballs, either. :lecture

Im willing to part out the bike with the coak for $300 :)
