J/K

I'll probably see it Friday morning. If it's not playing Friday during the day, than Sat morning. I hate dealing with crowds.

With any luck I'll be seeing it Friday after I've handed in a assignment. Skipping a lecture so the earlier the better, crowds piss me off too. Its out on Thursday but I will be putting the finishing touches on the assignment. Cant wait to see it. So tired of avoiding spoilers and crap

Just was thinking about this for some reason, but a few pages back someone mentioned that the Iron Man armor should look like a knight's armor and be much bulkier. Medieval plate as a rule is actually very very tight fitting with rather spindly looking limbs. Usually the head ends up looking oversized (one of my concerns before the first Iron Man film came out) because they're generally much heavier armored.

Some German high gothic plate. Not sure if it's a repro or of the era but it's a pretty good example.

Actually it's not a good example. Reason being, that's along the lines of what the Mark V suit case armor looks like (slimmer, tighter fit). I think everyone would agree that this Mark IV suit is bigger than that suit case armor. So the problem is, if THIS figure (Mark IV) is already slim as hell and has tight fitting armor, how can HT make an accurate representation of the Mark V armor which they already confirmed (along with the Mark VI)!?

Even the upcoming bust from HT of the Mark IV is a better representation of the bulkiness of the film suit IMO:

I meant it was a good example of German gothic armor.

Um.. ok. And that's relevant to this discussion how!?

I believe cr` was the one who brought that up about the armor and I guarantee he wasn't picturing what you posted when he said the Mark IV suit should look like a Knight's armor.

He was talking about this:

ALL armor eventually slimmed up and got smaller, less clunky. Your pic represents that progression. That's why it's irrelevant.

That's modern reproduction armor, even earlier armor (plate) was very slim since it was made for the person who wore it. Modern repro armor is often not made custom for a specific person and thus is looser to allow for more variance in the size of the wearer. The same approach was applied to the Gondorian armor in LotR since it also needed to work for a number of different sizes and couldn't all be custom made.

There's a bunch of period armor in this guy's Flickr. This one in particular is earlier full plate similar to what you posted but actual period armor and you can see it's still pretty slim and close fitting.

I just thought it was an interesting discussion, I was just pointing out that armor can and was very close fitting and slim. I don't find the mk IV too slim at all and when directly comparing it to the full body poster shot of the mkVI at a similar angle the width of all parts of the body are all but exactly the same.

I think there's some issues, but I don't think it's the overall thinness some people think it is. Certain things like the neck being too long and the head slightly too small create an optical illusion of the body being slimmer than it is.

Hey guys, have you seen this yet? I don't know if I should post it in this thread or not but here it is anyway. There's a lot of crazy suits in this movie, a lot of crazy potential figures.

Oh no, that middle bottom suit kinda looks like a potential spoiler.

:lol I never said anything about the armor being accurate or from a specific period when I posted those pics bro. You seem dead set on that, and that wasn't my point or intent. This isn't History class. Someone (I believe it was cr`) made the comment that the Iron Man suit should look like a Knight in Armor. I was simply illustrating what that person meant when posting that comment. I highly doubt they had a book of accurate, period specific armor handy when they typed that or had the pic you posted in mind.

I know. Agreed 100%. But that's the problem, you keep trying to prove a point that no one is disputing. That's why I said it's irrelevant. And especially to the discussion at hand.

People are looking ahead and trying to figure out how HT will pull off the Mark V armor. Which is supposed to be even THINNER than this Mark IV. HT already admitted they slimmed the chest down for articulation. So that shows right off the bat the build is inaccurate.

Still the best looking Iron Man figure so far IMO.

I think it's Hammer's suit. It's smaller and different from the others and has more of a "face". I could be totally wrong of course.

Looks kinda like the trash can robot from "The Black Hole". :lol

But I agree, it does have more of a head than the other bots. Wouldn't be the first action figure/cosbaby(!?) spoiler.

agreed and i appreciate the back up. :) the bulkiness of the armor is not the only reason i make the connection to medieval armor, it's also the flipping face plate(as used in jousting tournament in medieval times) and the fact that tony needs jarvis to assemble the mark suit on his body, much like a knight would have someone(a squire?) to help assemble the armor on his body.

and to keep with the medieval motif, i also think whiplash looks like a barbarian.

Acutally it's the proto Drone armor. It's the one he builds for the army before he gets some 'help.'
