I'd personally only get the mkVI if I was just getting one, I love the triangular chest piece and actually think the VI/VI armor design looks far better with the triangular RT and the different paint.

The MK VI is so similar to the IV, that you can probably replace the removable chest piece with a triangular one and get a Mark VI too. :)

The only reason to get the Mark IV.

did he do those scenes twice or are all those pics of him on the donut all finished cgi?

I think just finished CGI. Those, um, pants he is wearing on set are clearly meant for motion capture/CGI work. I think the real suit just wasn't poseable/comfortable enough to sit in the donut. Or mabe they were afraid he could damage the donut with them? Either way, I want a donut base. Forget the Armory base, give us the giant donut instead and just release an expandable Armory base set.

I could be wrong but I remember hearing that they only made that much of the suit. The legs never existed in reality. Even the first film's suit, the portions of the shoulder, elbow, hips, and knees never existed.

I can see the legs not existing for Downey's suit. I know from the behind the scenes of the first movie they realized in order for him to maintain the level of performance they wanted they had to make it a little easier on hims physically.

But you'd think they'd made legs of some sort for the stunt work scenes. It seems like adding the legs in digitally to every scene would get very expensive.

Maybe not though. I have to say, that image of Tony with the donut box in the middle of the big donut... it's already classic in my book. Just so perfect. And I haven't even seen the movie yet!

Well it makes sense. Due to the aspect ratio of most films you often only have the actor from the waist up anyway and in any big action scenes the suit will be all CGI.

It's really awesome how these days compositing has gotten so good you can have a dude half dressed and fill in the rest with totally digital fabrications and you can't tell the difference.

Good point.

It is pretty amazing. I think IM was one of the first movies I was totally convinced. I really would not be able to tell you what was real and what was digital most of the time. I just watched Spider-man 1 & 2 again for the first time in a long time. Still great films, but the effects haven't held up too well even in the short time since they came out.

The only scene that jumps out at me in the first IM is the scene of the camera circling the CGI mkII suit which then cuts abruptly to the mostly real mkII suit. You can really see the difference in the reflectiveness of the two and the cut is a little awkward.

I could've sworn that I saw some behind-the-scenes stuff on the Iron Man dvd that showed RDJ and the stunt guys wearing fully-decked out prop suits with all the appendages and joints.

There definitely was a full suit for the first movie. The Mark I, II and III all had practical builds. As the movie progressed they realized the full suit was needed less and less. So maybe that led to no legs in this movie. I hadn't heard it myself yet but I've been avoiding behind the scenes stuff.
