That angle really sells the look and gives it a great costume appearance.

Thanks, I've been tweaking it sporadically; when I finally get around to a photoshoot I'll show off the best angles. The body -- being lanky -- has a great range of movement and it's even more expressive since the the entire surface area, i.e. fur -- is articulated. So you can really impart a sense of both weight and movement.

The comb they included is actually an excellent tool. The teeth for combing out, the pick end for raising and "fluffing" (oh god) the coat, and the flat, toothless end for shaping and smoothing. Fine grouping, small adjustments and "pointing" or matting the fur is achieved with the fingertips. I don't even bother using any water or product and get some pretty good results.

The down side is that all of this takes a long time, and needs resetting if you re-pose, so realistically this isn't a figure I want to mess with once I have a good pose, but if you have the time, go nuts.

The fur on mine changes with the light; I could lighten it up a bit but probably won't, at least not for a very long time. In natural light he's fine. My only real issue is that the eyes are set a little too close together.

The other major downside is that Chewbacca makes you want to do a 12-back run. That's not good. Not good at all.

Unplanned wookies are the worst

That's what you get for hanging around SSF. :slap

Care to do mine, next? Thanks, man!!!!!!

You on you own! :rotfl

Sorry for the crappy picture, but thought I'd share another Chewie picture! Love this figure!

Sorry for the crappy picture

Get a better camera on that figure stat. Don't change a thing about the pose, put he camera wherever it needs to be to capture that exact angle - maybe move whatever is in front of him out of the way. Despite the lack of fine detail it's looking great and it's one of the most realistic Chewbacca futzes so far.

Hey guys,
Thanks for the great coments! I'll take some better pictures today and post them up.
The type of paint I used was Colvin & Co Artists Acrylic. Watered down and applied via a toothbrush. I hope this helps.

P.S - that isn't the colour of paint I used. I ran out of burnt umber. But this is the make of paint I used. You can get them at any art store.

Damn, that looks good even with a camera pic!

I just recently "futzed" my Chewie... meaning, I got all the matted crap more refined and messed around a bit with the head. Still can't figure out just how the **** he can look so good in person, but then I try to take a pic with this iphone and he comes out looking a goofy ass.

Know what you mean. And one of my Chewies photographs better than the other.:dunno

Thanks guys!!!

Ok I took some more pictures of Chewie under better lighting. I live in Scotland and the weather is pretty dull today, so excuse any poor pictures lol

IMO it's best not to rely on the name of the pigment unless you can grab the specific brand of paint. "Burnt umber" a staple in any painter's toolbox (it was in mine back in the day) is likely to vary quite a bit - the stuff I used to use would have been way too dark to "lighten" Chewie's fur and would have required mixing with something else first. YMMV.

Also don't underestimate the role lighting plays in the appearance of each photo, the last couple look like they have very strong lighting brining out the lighter acrylic strands. The hand-held one look much more natural.

Nice pics and pose, BuGz!

Lighting plays a HUGE difference. My Chewie is in half shadow and I can't even see his eyes. That alone makes mine look worse off. I definitely need better lighting in my Detolfs...

Thanks mate!
I agree the lighting really helps bring out the details of the fur.

More iPhone pics.

I consider this still a Futz-In-Progress.

It can be hard to get enough light on him; I've gone to some trouble to adjust these to show true colours, although even to the naked eye those colours shift based on lighting conditions.

I'd love to get a 50mm lens on him with a full frame DSLR, but I haven't had time to do this right in months and probably won't for a while. That rig is out with the wife again anyway.
