I've been trying to go easy on the Star Wars collecting because it can be such a rabbit hole, but after I picked up ROTJ Luke I saw that Chewie was on sale, and I had $50 in rewards ready to go ... suffice it to say 'Chewie rocks'.

Looks like outtakes from a Star Wars special gone wrong...again.

Yeah, I've only seen the TFA Chewy in a LCS a few times, but it really was staggering just how bad the face looked in person. The ANH face most definitely has its problems too, but its like a 7.5/10 for me, while the TFA is like a 4/10. I really thought when Solo (where Chewy's almost a main character) was upcoming HT would surely give us the "definitive" 1/6 Chewy, but alas - nope.

I actually recently bought a THIRD ANH Chewy - only because it was $140 shipped (I've actually never paid more than $220 shipped for any of my Chewies - not sure how I did that) - and the face actually looks a bit better than my first two. I do seem to recall some being better than others, but I noticed it as soon as I took it out. Nothing massive, but it just somehow looks more screen accurate, less beak-like.

I now have on display a "3PO backpack" Chewy for my ESB display, a Chewy standing next to smuggler Han for SW, and this new one I've redone the forehead hair to look ROTJ style and put a chain/loop on him for Jabba's palace ROTJ Chewy next to Bousshh. All OT Chewies now taken care of.:yess:

Now I just need to finally get around to redoing/modding the faces - something I've planned but put off ever since I got my first one. Except now I have THREE to do.:lol

What would you change on those faces?
m.

why?
looking at your pic there it looks great to me!
I prefer this one over the TFA one but would like to get that 1 eventually just to see what i could make of it after a good futzing!

This is the best version of Chewie that HT has done so far...folks have posted some good shots of him in here.

I didn't futz too much with him, but he still looks great with Han on display...

Is there anywhere that tell the lifespan of a Wookie?
I see TFA Chewie vs ANH and it has lighter coloured fur. For a ripe old age Wookie, what will the colour of the fur change further? Will they walk with a hunch?
Just thinking aloud...

I read somewhere their furs are like silky or Yorkshire terriers. When young it’s super dark and as they age it gets lighter then ultimately greyer. I was hoping we’d see more grey or silver soon.

Is the bandolier on your figures okay? mines starting to tear really bad. I didnt realize the material they used for this was so thin that some peeling occurred when i was just moving the material.

Oh, that's annoying. The material Hot Toys is using sucks, same thing will happen to every pleather item with time. One of my holsters for a trooper(ANH) is degrading quickly. Sad to see this happening on many pieces since they're not cheap.

I'm using a vinyl/pleather conditioner which seems to work fine, but haven't used it on too many figures since I'm not a 100% sure it has the same effect on all types of pleather. You could maybe use a similiar product to suppress the aging progress.

Sorry if the answer wasn't so clear, but as you might suspect, I'm not very enligthened in this field

Hahaha it's cool! I happened to discover the condition of my figures when i was applying bees wax conditioner on the leather parts hahah The bandolier tore as soon as i pressed and applied the conditioner on the bag.

Wow, I don't think any HT Chewy has even been in hand for more than four years - incredible pleather could go off that quickly. I have a few Hasbro 12" figs where the pleather has gone or is starting to go off - but that's 20 years or more old, and in most cases the pleather is fine.

I always read these horror stories with the pleather on figures eroding, but the worst case I can think of with mine is the one of the pleather straps on the wrist gauntlet of my Berserker Predator coming unglued.

All depends where you live and the weather there.imo

Displayed in sunlight, living in a hot humid climate are all bad.
