A really tough audience. This is leaps and bounds above anything offered ever before. Let's take a trip down memory lane....

IMO a tough audience is warranted at these prices. I was blown away by the reveal pics and I continue to be impressed with Hot Toys' push on all fronts Star Wars but I'm not spending this much money on something that has just a resemblance to such an iconic character.

I dunno man, I can show that figure to just about ANYONE and they'll know exactly who it is....lol

In the short time I've been here I've realized unless these characters come to life before your eyes, there will always be dissatisfied collectors lol

That is basically my point. I think the final will look great?

A big part of the problem for me is HT's inconsistency on figure likenesses. For every Mandarin or Adam West there are twice as many disappointing misses like Han, Chewie, Ben, etc. We always expect their best because we know what they can be capable of.

The same can be said for this:

I think the real point not really being articulated among the critique is that for the prices being charged now, edging up towards $300 per figure (which is absurd), the likenesses need to be absolutely dead on accurate (and even then the prices will still be too high).

If we're being completely honest, this...

...is not this. Not yet anyway.

Hmm, looking at those two pics, if the coloration wasn't so dark and he didn't have that goofy open-mouthed expression (which almost makes him look like he's got his tongue sticking out) I think it would probably look a heckuva lot closer.

And I suppose the eyes could be a bit wider as well...

For starters, the fur on his face needs to be lightened. And he's got beady eyes.

Yeah I think going off of that picture if the fur on his face was lightened up a bit the head would look a lot better. It still looks really good to me and I'm happy to have it in my collection.

I don't need it to be dead-on accurate myself. I just need it to be... a lot closer than it currently is.

For nearly $300 I think most people want accuracy.
Anyway, I think the main issue with the latest pics is the coloring (also, profile shows gap in nose and hair on the bridge of the nose. Which might just require hair futzing).

Sean

I agree the nose needs to be adjusted, but these comparo movie stills all depend on lighting and a host of other things to make the characters look like what you remember in the film. Not saying the HT Chewie is perfect, but that's a helluva monumental move forward in 1/6th engineering if we get that as opposed to what everyone thought was possible mass market wise. I say bravo HT! With SS stepping up their game and now HT getting pretty significant holes filled, 1/6th SW is in a place we could only dream about just a few short years ago. Hopefully they continue to develop it so that it meets most expectations when released.
All that said, yes, the pricing is gonna break a lot of backs and this dream era of 1/6th SW may turn out to be very short lived, but you gotta mortgage the house to catch the wave.....no, not really, don't mortgage your house.

Hot Toys - MMS 262 - Star Wars Episode IV - 1/6th scale Chewbacca Collectible...

To me it looks 100% like a wookie and maybe 75% like Chewbacca. The fact that the first part has never happened makes this figure good enough for me. Obviously i'd hope they improve things but I will be perfectly content with this figure on my shelf.
I would think aliens, troopers will always get a bit more of a pass with most people. Humans, unfortunately, have to be pretty damn close or fall under the "this may be the only chance at this character." This may be why I would consider the HT Kenobi over Han.

I'm applying the same logic to Solo and Obi Wan. 100% like a human and maybe 75% like Ford and Sir Alec.
