I haven't seen either in person but based off photos I actually think the SS Hoth Han looks slightly better than this. Plus the Hoth and X-wing Lukes are well done.

Don't understand the HT Obi-Wan hate though, I think that one is perfect.

Sideshow's Han suffers from two things:

-Poor paint apps that don't come close to HT
-Odd looking eyes

If HT did the paint and fixed the eyes, it would be pretty damn good. But I'll be more than happy with my HT Han. Everyone I've shown the pics to love him.

-Poor paint apps that don't come close to HT

Just as good as many HT. Certainly the ones I own. A little more tanned than I'd like, but HT is always off on skin tone as well. Both companies use as little paint as possible, letting the raw color of the cast part provide the base and mid-tones.

-Odd looking eyes

The eyes are fine and near perfect for Ford, IMO. Maybe they're not "idealized" which is what a lot of people like about HT stuff, but they're realistic enough and the apparent lack of upper lids is precisely Ford.

I don't know if you have this in hand, but if you don't, there aren't any images online that I've yet seen that do this figure justice.

I don't have allegiance to any one company, I just call it like it is. HT has not delivered a human SW sculpt that matches the actor, and that includes Bespin Luke, which is much better than their Solo or Kenobi. The only way HT could have done as good a job as Sideshow would have been to hire Trevor Grove. They don't employ anyone that has been able to match his best sculpts I'm afraid.

Sorry, My Friends Hoth Han does not have HT's quality paint apps. The eyes are too big. I will wait to see what HT's Han looks like. Can't judge it until it is released.

Hot Toys' sculpts might not be perfect, but they come pretty damn close. Never hard to tell who each character is. If I wanted a more unrealistic look, I'd go Sideshow. Hot Toys getting the Star Wars license is a gift from the God's because I probably wouldn't have a Star Wars collection without it. Sideshow does great with helmeted figures and droids, but to say their human's are anything close to Hot Toys is simply asinine.

They've improved...but not quite HT yet. And the True Type body is so much better than SS's Prometheus. I'm giving Sideshow the benefit of the doubt for Red Five Luke, since I like the outfit so much. But I'm definitely displaying him with the helmet on...

:lol Get your hand off it Pixel. You comment on pics not doing the Hoth Han sculpt justice, but then critique HT figures based on... pics.

The HT sculpts don't look like their A-game to me either, but pic for pic Sideshow have done no better.

I think the mouth is the biggest problem. To me, when I look at movie photos Chewie doesn't have a defined upper lip. It looks more like a the edge of the "mustache" make it appear there's a lip. It looks like the mouth is a separate peice on a peg that gets shoved in through the hair. Maybe just futzing or glueing a swatch of hair over the top lip would help?

But at the end of the day I'd rather have a figure with actual hair than sculpted texture.

One of the few times where both actors fit and played the character perfectly IMO.

McGregor was definitely the best thing about the prequels, but I still thought he played young Obi-Wan a little TOO much like Guinness did, and too much like the same stuffy and uptight old man. Even though in ANH, Guinness has this twinkle in this eye that always made me think his Obi-Wan was probably a lot more fun and adventuresome in his younger days.

Of course to be fair, the prequels made ALL the Jedi a lot more boring and stuffy than I ever expected them to be, so maybe that's where most of the problem lies...

Good points there, I agree. I really like how light hearted Obi-Wan was in the prequels. His comments are always optimistic and you just feel like he's a really good guy. He's the quintessential Jedi IMO. Having just finished the prequels again I can now say without any hesitation that I am a big fan. I hated all the CGI for the longest time, but now I just appreciate the Star Wars universe so much that I enjoy every second I get to experience it.
